German Armor VS Italian Armor - Kingdom Come Deliverance

  • Early plate in Italy, and elsewhere in the 13th-15th century were made of iron. Iron armor could be carburised or case hardened to give a surface of harder steel. Plate armor became cheaper than mail by the 15th century as it required less labor and labor had become much more expensive after the Black Death, though it did require larger furnaces to produce larger blooms. Mail continued to be used to protect those joints which could not be adequately protected by plate, such as the armpit, crook of the elbow and groin. Another advantage of plate was that a lance rest could be fitted to the breast plate.
    The small skull cap evolved into a bigger true helmet, the bascinet, as it was lengthened downward to protect the back of the neck and the sides of the head. Additionally, several new forms of fully enclosed helmets were introduced in the late 1300s.
    Probably the most recognized style of armor in the World became the plate armor associated with the knights of the European Late Middle Ages, but continuing to the early 17th century Age of Enlightenment in all European countries.
    By about 1400 the full harness of plate armor had been developed in armories of Lombardy. Heavy cavalry dominated the battlefield for centuries in part because of their armor.
    #KingdomComeDeliverance is a 2018 action role-playing video game developed by #WarhorseStudios and published by #DeepSilver for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate content.
    The story takes place during a war in Bohemia in 1403. On the orders of Hungarian king Sigismund, Cuman mercenaries raid the mining village of Skalitz, a major source of silver. One of the survivors of the resulting massacre is Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Destitute and vengeful, Henry joins the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who leads a resistance movement against Sigismund's invasion. As Henry pursues justice for his murdered family, he becomes involved in an effort to restore Bohemia's rightful king and Sigismund's half-brother, Wenceslaus IV, to the throne. The game features branching quest lines, an open world environment, and period-accurate weapons, clothing, combat techniques, and architecture (recreated with the assistance of architects and historians), which encourages immersive gameplay.
    The game received generally positive reviews and a number of Game of the Year awards. Critics praised the story, attention to detail, and focus on realism, while criticism was aimed at technical bugs.

    Just like in the AUTOMOTIVE industry we can sum these two kinds like this:
    Italian: excellent design, incredibly quirky, might have reliability issues. +10 CHARISMA
    German: overengineered, costs an arm and a leg to fix, looks wacky and intimidating. +10 STRONK
    Seriously though, I would love a KCD2 set in a later period with Gothic armor and Sallets.

    The warhammer was super popular throughout Europe as soon as plate armor was more fully developed in the mid 14th century. The mace was great against mail as all it had to do was impact and deliver blunt damage but with the advances of plate armor its effect was far less than it had against mail. The warhammer became so popular because it had the ability to deliver blunt damage with the flat (usually spiked) end and then an armor piercing spike on the back. Later, many warhammers would also have spikes on the top and a very popular version of warhammers were actually just the spiked part.

    Could you make an armor that could someone in Henry's postion actually afford and wear? I'd imagine it would be something not too fancy but also not something only a peasant would wear.

      If you go through the game organically as intended, his quality of obtained armor naturally improves over time. Even the cutscenes seem to Acknowledge this to some degree. He gets the Bascinet and Gambeson in Rattay to do his guard duties. Then when you rescue Hans, you can take a set of chainmail, gloves, bracers and a pair of padded chausses from the Cumans iirc. From there, the amount of equipment Henry loots and wears or sells to buy better kit creates a snowballing effect until Henry is canonically wearing a full blown knightly set of expensive armor for the final battle. However, being the complete psychopath min-maxing gamer I am, I butcher everyone in Skalitz during the Prologue and end up head to toe in the finest gambeson and chainmail money can buy. I think someone in Skalitz has couters with Jack Chains too iirc

    I always wished the game had more armor like the zoul armor. I prefer the heraldry to be right on the armor, instead of needing a waffenrock.

    • @Dare_To_Game
      @Dare_To_Game  3 года назад +6

      Well, historically speaking, many knights and nobles would wear enammeled plate where their crest, or colours would be right on the plate. THis both showed off their heraldry and protected their armor from rusting, so it served a dual purpose. I hope that we will see more of this in the next game.

    • @DJWeapon8
      @DJWeapon8 2 года назад +4

      Hopefully the next game allows some armor customization.
      Take it to an armorer, have the cuirass enameled and decorated with your chosen heraldry. Which would also boost your reputation gain with that heraldry's faction, but also increase reputation loss if caught doing crime or unfavorable acts.

    Yeah, the distinctive Gothic armor look would start appearing about 15 or 20 years later than the game's setting of 1403 and reach its height around 40 years later. Then Maximilian armor evolved from that. It seems the stylistic choices for armor in German, Italian and English taste standardized in about 1440-1450. Personally, I prefer English and Italian armors because they generally have a more tanky build for foot combat. Classic Gothic armor is definitely a horseman's armor.
