Great videos! I've watched them all several times and I'll probably watch them many more. You did us all a great service. I was clueless before your videos.
I tried this method out and it worked very well. My only issue now is that my mirrors and the roll cage are not the same color as my overall paint scheme(black and orange). Any advice?
SnappyDee2O4F The roll cage will have a separate layer. It should be toward the top. Just re-color it my friend. The mirrors, just create a new layer above the base and color the mirror area what you like.
Hey nUke, I figured it out. The wheel color is separate from the template. All I had to do is use the sim's paint tool to paint my wheels and it showed up in game. Regardless of what my paint scheme was. Nice and easy... Thanks again for these videos. Great job!
The paint schemes I did do I love and I use Gimp for other things. Its awesome and nUkerATsKi was my hero in getting me started! Thanks so much for doing these!
I am having a problem with filling the selected color areas. I go to do the fill and instead of it filling with the color I pick, it seems to be trying to mix. For example I'm selecting green area, make it so it can't be view, fill it with an amber color then on the new layer I end up with a dark red color. I have RGB color mode selected. I don't know what is going on.
nUke, How are my friend? I hope all is well with you this holiday season. Wanted to let you know that you are in the Snappy family thoughts this season. 😀 What do I do of all of a sudden GIMP isn't cooperating? When I go to use the color fill tool none of the colors transfer in. The only color that seems to work is black. All the other colors just turn a varied shade of G,R or B. WTF!? Is there a setting that I accidentally ticked or something?
Man, so very sorry I missed this and this response is so very late. It sounds like something was changed with regards to the channel type somewhere. Try taking that layer you are working on and "right click" on it and select "add alpha layer" Or combine it down with a blank new layer and try again.
If someone responded to my early post I apologize. Still having issues with viewing Replays and Gimp simultaneously. The replay takes over the viewing screen and I have to completely exit, try to remember where to make a change, change it, boot the replay back up and hope I got it. Takes wayyy too much time.
You do not have to exit the replay. Just alt-tab after you pause it. Make the change in GIMP and export accordingly like shown. Then, click on the iracing bar at the bottom (the replay you alt tabbed) and then hit ctr-r. It will refresh the paint to the current one it the folder which you just made the change to. No need to fire up the replay each time my friend. Also, if you run your sim in "windowed" mode when painting it makes it even easier.
Problem i have is that once you have changed the color not all the pixels will change and you have to zoom in and clean them up witch is very time consuming if you want a crisp looking design and not other colors in it!
I am not quite sure where the problem is my friend. I sounds like you may be missing a step. You should only be changing one of the RGB colors. Allowing the others to be deleted completely. I would try again and follow the video exactly. I will watch it again as well and see if I can figure out what the issue is. Sorry I could not be more help.
nUKerATsKi so then we can only paint one of the colors say the blue.? And the red and green are deleted? Ill watch it again tonight with out painting along. I could of missed something. But if im only allowed to take one of them to paint why bother to use there design's.
No sir. Sorry for the misunderstanding. You can paint or change the color of them individually. Try changing just one color like in the video by using the "colorize" option under the "color" tab at the top.
Also, be sure if you are using the bucket fill after grabbing the blue channel "select channel" as in video, that it says "full selection" under the tools is selected. I mention this in the video as well. I really hope this helps. If not, please let me know and bare with me. We will get it sorted for you.
Can we fill them with our own patterns? Like camo? If so how or do you already have a vid on this? By the way i did figure this out thanks for your help!
Just wanted to say thank you i've been searching for hours how to do it properly even if this video is from 2013 it is still accurate so thx a lot :D
Awesome, thank you, was linked this via Reddit and it's been a great resource.

Is there a way to use your own custom number# on the car with out the default number?
+Robert Tipton Sorry I missed this Robert. IIRC you have got it sorted on the forum. If not, let me know my friend.

Brilliant. Thanks :)
Jamie can I take a paint that I did for one car and add it to a different car so I don’t have to keep doing it all over again and again?
