There’s a reason they reference Elton John…this song has a big “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” vibe. And that isn’t bad at all. It’s very, happy pop but it’s exactly what you’d expect from a BTS English, summer song written by Ed Sheeran after being locked down in a pandemic. Justin Timberlake did this a few years ago with “Can’t Stop the Feeling”. It’s nice to just smile and enjoy a happy song!!!

Justin's "CSTF" is what first came into my mind because of how the "PTD" MV had a similar vibe to it and I can definetly hear Ed's singing "da na na na na" but I would have never thought Ed wrote this, no wonder every line was so beautiful.
I prefer this 100x more than Butter, it just gets me in a happy state and it goes well with what the majority of the world is going through in summer 2021. It's liberating.

I'll never understand the hate for BTS making English songs. Do these people also hate when they release a Japanese song? Some groups have whole English albums. Some dramatic af people acting like they're abandoning their whole Korean identities just coz they have 3 English songs lmao
The funny thing is that the Korean people actually really like the English songs (Dynamite was a BIG thing there) and Korean Armys love the songs. It's the international stans, who don't know a word in Korean, who are getting mad about it lol.
Exactly and they say they’re just appeasing to the American audience for money like these dudes haven’t been doing fine without English songs. They don’t need it but they want it, whats wrong with that? A lot of them also say it’s the industry making them do this. People that have worked with bts countless times have said that they don’t ever put out a song they don’t like. It’s one of the reason why Bighit artists are at the top, because they are allowed to do what they want.
I don’t see what’s so hard about ignoring the things you don’t like when it’s not harming anyone. You don’t like PTD that’s fine but to leave comments questioning their identity and authenticity is out of line.
There was an entire Japanese album released just last month, and people have the audacity to call them westernized just because their 2 recent songs are in English.

This song is going to be like Spring Day. It resemble a phase we needed to pass. The pandemic effected a lot of people. We are slowly getting back to life. And I can feel it in this music video and song. There is hope and it’s time to move forward.

You know what makes me appreciate BTS are "Artists"? There ain't specific concept they stick to and the concept they are doing will revolve around the mentality that they have at the moment!
Their debut was Hip hop inspired, more badass, rap focused songs, 2017-18 when they had the toughest time in their career, they told everyone to love themselves (Love yourself Era), when they were afraid to lose their love for music and were afraid that they will forget how they felt when they first made music (Map of the soul), Despite everyone being locked down and separated, Life Goes on (BE), and we have their English releases which are all fun, dance and more radio worth (Dynamite, Butter and PTD)!

you know why i have loved this more than butter? bc in my perspective, it vv wholesome. this time its not just a 'fun song' like what namjoon always say with butter. we don't need permission to dance = permission to live free-spiritedly.. they emphasized workers that had to loose their job and children who had a different childhood bc of pandemic. the long wait is over, we should finally let go of the burden that pandemic has given to all of us.

I love the positivity in this song. After the pandemic and everything that has happened over the past 2 years we need to move forward! The best part to me is when they all take the masks off. I can’t wait to go places without fear and without having to wear masks and social distance. Love the many messages of this song and LOVE BTS 💜💜💜💜💜

Even the fans declare to not watch any colour coded lyrics or reaction videos before 24 hours of release. Many people don't follow that rule.

I feel like this song is reinforcing the idea that "KPOp is for anyone" and a message could be* that if it's bop: it's a bop. You don't need permission to jam to a bop. To dance to a bop and just enjoy the music.
This song was released on the day Army was created (the fan name, I believe [hence all the purple balloons, also with them flying to a majority of people showing that KPop and BTS specifically is reaching everyone]) so it's just BTS' reminder that they, like Big Hit's old motto, create music for healing and for good vibes.
The song is 100% in English. I don't think they're doing this to spread 'kpop is for everyone'. It's just BTS wanting to make a song which brings cheer during a time when everything is gloomy and spreading happiness worldwide. Not everything BTS does has to be linked to kpop
When the PTD teaser dropped.. I didn't like the music I liked the vibe. But when the MV dropped.. The best way to describe is I felt warm. I was smiling all the time. The song made me feel everything is gonna be okay. I'm gonna be okay even if I fall sometimes. That's all PTD is to me.
However I have no problem with other people not liking it. We all are entitled to our own music taste and opinion. It's okay if we don't like some songs of our favorite artist. At the end of the day we all have our comfort songs. For some, PTD isn't that song. For me, it is a feel good song.
All listeners are entitled to like or dislike certain songs. But what isn't right is either hating the boys or hating others whose opinion doesn't match with us. So the bottom line is.. Yes, I personally loved PTD and I'll come back to it when I'll need a little pick me up from bad mood.

I've been listening to permission to dance on repeat since yesterday! The MV is so wholesome and it had the feeling of "togetherness" if that makes sense. It's such a feel-good, celebration song. Even the phrase "Cause we don't need permission to dance" in itself is so simple but powerful. Don't be afraid to dance and do things you enjoy doing. Don't let anyone else hold you back. Instead, groove and roll with whatever life throws at you! Honestly, I like this song a lot better than butter but that's just my opinion :)

That was indeed one of my favorite bars of this song. It was altogether an amazing song. My spouse liked it better than butter due to all the symbolism with Army and the diversity. It was amazing.

This song choreo is also based on sign language..I saw the tweet of an army saying their cousin who's deaf was watching the MV and said "oh their telling me to dance" which really touched me emotionally. BTS made the choreo easy for army to dance along to!

they even used the sign language for the deaf. They're telling them to dance and I've read some tweets that armys who has friends/family members who are deaf said that they finally felt the sense of belongingness and I've never been so proud.

To everyone saying that BTS is westernized or that they keep making English songs 🙄 BTS have around 200 songs and only 3 are English (4 of you count waste it on me but that wasn’t 0t7 so idk) if you miss their old songs then listen to them, they are still available. At the end of the song, Bang PD and the new CEO and their staff were there dancing together. Not many companies we know that their CEOs dances together with their workers. BTS picked the right company. Love PTD and Butter!

Butter is my fav of the two, but I also feel like they're very different songs so hard to say one is better than the other. I really love hearing the rap line sing in PTD and the positive message. Butter I crank up after work and sing my lungs out as I drive home. Both a blast. One of them they should get a Grammy for.

Also, the entrance to the hallway in the school is an ARMY symbol w purple balloons inside. This video was incredible! And I love all the people shown dancing. They also represent ARMY. Someone in Army overseas took the words permission to dance and looked at the font anywhere in different sizes and they are rearranged it with the fonts that were the same and it came came up with Stories of Pandemic. This is just so cool adding the sign language and in the fact that Sharon helped write the song and the fact that they were just banging this out and it's awesome it's what we needed.
