I made a Pokemon region in Minecraft about 7 years ago, but i never finished building it. I instead turned it into a DnD campaign that has been running for about 6 years. The biggest City in the region is called Ionia. All this to say that I was shocked to find a hotel in Sw/Sh that was called "Hotel Ionia." 😅
@@RyeTwost Honestly, a lot higher than I thought. There is actually a street nearby where I just moved that is named Ionia (insert street designation here.) I thought I was being clever, taking Ion- for the Powerplant gym and -ia being a common city suffix. A few other names that I haven't seen anywhere else so far are: Pyron- from pyre- Volcano gym town Bontum- from boo and ectoplasm- Graveyard gym city Arthrook- I actually don't remember what the arth part was for, but Rook was for the chess gym that later became a theatre gym. Cyclia- from icycle- Mountain gym town The gyms all have themes instead of types and each have a gimmick to make the DnD fights more interesting than just another battle. Also, as a person who was born and raised in PA, I absolutely love all of your ideas! I can't wait to see everything else you've come up with!
Ionia was actually the name of an ancient region in Anatolia! ...and the name of a region in League of Legends. I will pretend I knew that was its English name (only knew it as Jonia in Spanish) before i got into League lol But pretty cool! I like how you came up with your names :)

I'm a game design / game development student right now and I will watch your progress with great interest. It's cool that you went into this with a certain idea (more forest-y areas), most of the time that helps when designing stuff I think. As a Pokémon fan also, the region looks great! Great variety of locations and gym leaders as well as what seems like a non-linear map. The open world aspect does bring with it some type of challenges though. One that immediately comes to mind is how do you handle the evil team? Where are they going to show up and what are they going to do? You also talked about not liking fossil fuels (fair enough, me too), but I don't think keeping that to only one Elite 4 member does the state justice. You said that Pennsylvania exports a lot of fossil fuels, but that you want people to move on to greener energies, why not have the evil team stop that? Make the evil team some oil and coal lovers and go from there (assuming you don't have the evil team written out already. Besides that, I have no immediate pointers that haven't already been discussed below. As I said this is a great starting point, I'm interested to see where you go from here
I live near Amish country and had a thought. Consider this, because the Amish don't really use technology a whole lot, imagine the Amish inspired elite 4 trainer uses the old school type balls like in Legends Arceus, made out of Apricorns.

I love this! While I've seen others discuss their fanmade regions, your descriptions felt more personal and less robotic than most others. I hope you continue, but please be careful you don't just hyper-focus on this and do nothing else for long periods on this channel. I've seen other RUclipsrs do this sadly.
Sounds fun! One of my favourite parts of Pokémon games is getting to know the NPCs. With 8 leaders, 4 elite four, and the champion, it’s often really tricky to develop them all equally, without underdevelopment. That being said, my ideal game would likely focus on the type specialists for the plot, so development could be done there too. It’d be really cool, for example, to have a side quest with the Oil Baron where you explore other types of energy, and if you complete it, he ends up as an electric specialist at the e4! Anyways, looks good!

I also have my own idea for a region and Pokémon game, and watching this video just made me remember all of the lore building i did for it, lol. The main thing i remmebered being the gym battles as, for some reason, I decided the Gyms wouldnt be type based, but rather design based. So thered be a mediaeval gym that uses knight themed pokemon, a food gym that uses food looking pokemon, etc. I can definitely see there being potential issues with this idea, but im really glad this video reminded me of this

I'm a student at Penn State, and about a year ago I started developing a PSU-based region, so seeing your ideas made me very happy hahahaha :) I immediately subscribed, and I can't wait to see more
While you're at region design, you could make some broad strokes about the culture like festivals, holidays, tourist attractions, popular heroes, and significant historic events. I think you could also make rough drafts of their relationship with neighboring regions. You don't really have to flesh them out because the main characters aren't likely to venture out of region. You probably just want to do that to get an interesting pallette characters and themes (tourists, immigrants, wars, etc) you could possibly use even if you might not use them. Also, think about the flow of goods between towns and cities (where do the food come from, where the steel goes to, who makes the electronics) as well as the region's imports and exports. This might help sell your region as a living and breathing with wants and needs and that it exists as a part of a greater world.

Fan regions are always fun~ and i know there are tools like Pokemon Essentials for making pokemon fangames, though i havent personally made anything in it so i cant speak to how complicated it is to use.

I’m kinda dumb and I don’t really know how to really search but I want to make my own fan region but I don’t know where to base it off of. I really really like astronomy and want space to be a part of the main plot somehow. I think I want to make a region that is more cold. If that makes sense. Most if not all regions have been pretty balanced as far as climate goes. I want the region to be more forests, mountains, snow, etc. Probably no desert in the region and if there were a desert section it’d be a separate smaller region you visit like with Kitakami. Idk
I heard there was level scaling for SV's DLC and went to try it with my level 60 team - everything was level 10 🙃 It just gets higher if you've beaten the league or whatever (I still haven't beaten the league, i named my Sprigatito after my own cat and he passed away not too long after I got the game, and it makes me sad to see his name on my starter 💔)
