I feel like there's something that goes through everyone (and it's different with everyone) when they feel in their hearts that "it's over." Up until this point, Dabi had completely closed himself off, only really resurfacing when Stain's idealogy aligned with grudge against Endeavor, and even then playing the indifferent punk, overshadowed by Toga and Spinner. Even as the Todoroki theory was bouncing around, I didn't much care for him. But when the moment finally came, when Dabi had set everything up, hidden everything exactly the right way, he even admitted to himself "oh wow, I'm actually getting pumped for this" because now all those feelings could finally come rushing back to the surface--and not just the villain Dabi's feelings towards Endeavor and satisfaction that everything was going well. The twisted part about this is that somewhere in there, 13-year-old Toya was finally celebrating his dad paying attention to him.
I know a lot of fans love to point out the similarities between Shoto and Zuko from ATLA, but upon closer inspection; I view Dabi as the type of person Zuko could have eventually become if he didn't have Iroh to guide him.
I see Shoto & Zuko and Dabi & Azula. Shoto and Zuko are obvious in terms of the scar but also the fact that they both loved their mothers so much, but then their mothers were banished/relocated. Dabi and Azula are a really heavy thing because they both not only have blue flames, but they also have major abandonment issues. Many people forget that Ursa (Zuko and Azula's mother) neglected Azula. Yes, Azula was pretty f'd up in the head, but Ursa, whether intentional or not, saw her child as a monster, which Azula carried and turned that into hatred for their mother (which lets be honest, all she wanted was her mom's love and attention too). Rei Todoroki was not much better because she let Endeavor neglect Toya and, in turn, neglected her child too. Oh, and let's not forget that Azula and Dabi are both super crazy in the head.
@@jonghwabiased8671 true BUT, Dabi and Zuko have much in common. I don’t think it’s fair to strictly label one with the other. 1. Both are the first born sons of an overbearing father. And by extension both Ozai and Endeavour where bitter about being 2nd to someone they thought they were superior too. 2. Both had mothers who (for better or worse) turned their back on them. 3. Both were bred for selfish reasons. 4. Both were trapped in the shadow of a younger sibling 5. Dabi and Zuko both went to desperate lengths to please their fathers, lengths that almost got them killed. 6. It was very obvious that Touya's blue fire was stronger than Shoto's orange. Taking it to real life, when you turn on a stove burner, the fire has 2 colors, blue and orange. While the blue fire starts to heat up at the bottom, it is the one that gives more gas to the orange fire, as it has more combustion.
Toya's only goal is to traumatize Endeavor. Killing Endeavor's "perfect creation" (Shoto) is probably the most effective way to break him. Toya has nothing against Shoto, but at the same time, he feels no connection to him either.
When shoto said what if natsuo had been killed and Dabi said think “how much pain it will cause endevour”, he basically is saying “I don’t really care if anyone else dies, it will just be more torment for endevour”, I get dabi wants to get revenge on his father and youngest brother, but the fact he shows no remorse at all if his other siblings and mother get killed is just pure evil
I can't wait to See Shotos Mom, sister and Brother who all have ice powers take on Dabi together.. Apparently Shotos mum is really powerful, now that she got her shit together.

If you really do think about it, seasons 2-6 Dabi never had shown much emotion until that moment he finally confronted his father.
Because he was waiting for the right moment. Then he just let lose his true insanity
Agreed. He started showing more emotion at the start of season 5, and showed his true, insane colours
