I met George Harrison at his Richie's townhouse in the village. Also Bob Marley at Richie's crib. And countless other giants. They all came to Richie's pad when they were in the village. Richie was my godfather. How blessed is that.
Today we have lost the incomparable Richie Havens! One of the truly great and unique voices of our time...his true fans always understood the magic of his voice...you will be sadly missed Richie. Thanks for the memories!
I truly will miss this most wonderful treasure. Thank god for his recordings as he will always be present to those of us who were lucky to have been in his presence. He now really has "Freedom"!
If this doesn't blow my mind! Two of my all time favorite performers! Richie doing Cat Stevens song! WOW! I am in bliss! I know that Yusuf Islam was filled with joy when he discovered this! God love Richie!
Richie was my brothers best. Imagine him in and out of our house every day. and then him and my brother joined the youth choir. I was there at 12.And then the magic started. went to Viet NAM and my friends used to bring me his songs. . weloved Richie
Richie Havens' record company should release a digital recording of The Great Blind Degree in memory of the man. My vinyl copy has been played almost to destruction. I miss you Richie.
I totally agree. It's such a great album. I've checked Amazon countless times over the past 25 years or so to see if a digital release was ever on its way. (It's possible I could transfer my vinyl version - which I've had for around 45 years - to CD, but it's not quite the same as a remastered version.) Still living in hope. Peace out!
This may possibly be one of Richie Havens best covers. Cat Stevens original version is great too but this version brings tears to my eyes. It's a shame the sound isn't better.
I have the original vinyl album with this track. Cat Stevens original might be moving but this makes me choke. I never knew my father and wonder what sort of words he might have said to me.
sound clarity ain't matter... Otherwise, would be nowadays-like, perfect, cold, crappy, deeeeead. Get the moment, take imperfections and time as a part of the "troupe".

Have you any proof of this? Would be good to hear more about it

First time I've heard this...tears streaming down my face. This son lost his father two years ago. Thank you for posting and God bless Richie Havens.
My prayers and condolences!
Muchas Gracias por compartir.

what a beautiful sentiment....so very true
☮❤♪ & Richie Havens RIP = Say not in grief: "He is no more," but live in thankfulness that he was.
Richie Havens is my sole influence for my percussive style of guitar
Someone got the title wrong. Father and Son. Direct, immediate impact.
Peace Train be with you, Richie...yeah :D
I don't know the cover, but errors happen,
the music is pretty and the interpretation is fantastic.
Don't let go of what we have gained from him. We owe him the honor. Check out my channel.
I already feel like the world needs him back. Not great timing, but hey he was too good for this shit hole.
Ya got that right Frodisboy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any way you could re-post this with better sound quality ? It seems to be the only one on
You Tube. Thanks !
It's plural on Richie's album cover. Check it out, Danilo.
weird but true www.joesalbums.com/images/product/richie-havens-blind-degree-vinyl-record-lp1.jpeg
shame the quality is so poor on this vid
It´s not plural, is Father and Son.
Correct but the errata is on the album www.joesalbums.com/images/product/richie-havens-blind-degree-vinyl-record-lp1.jpeg
The title is "Father and Son," singular, not plural. FYI
On Richie's album cover it is plural. I'm not crazy :)

Great song, great performance, lousy sound.
