I'm just a guy in Kansas playing around in his garage. Come along in my adventures riding, racing, modifying and repairing my small fleet of unusual misfits.
Tip: if you haven't got enough traction in a FWD vehicle and you want to go uphill, turn the car AROUND and go uphill BACKWARD in reverse gear.
The weight of the engine over the (now)driven back wheels will help with traction (way less wheel spin)and reverse gear is short enough to provide enough torque multiplication.

My wife said this vid gave her flashbacks. And it did for me to. We were in the offroading scene in the very late 90s and very early 2000s in my 1990 fullsize Bronco. It was lifted 2" and rode on 33s and I added a read locker. I still regret selling that truck.

Gonna miss that little badger of a Festiva. The sucker had heart. But man those hills look so deceptive;y easy sometimes. I guess if you shoot them at certain angles they just look like you're driving along flat ground until the wheels start spinning.

Lol, great and fun video. Just a word of advice on going over the loose stuff, keep your hands loose on the steering wheel. Gripped thumbs can get hurt if the wheel suddenly gets jerked around.
My high school gym teacher had a white Montero Sport, the early version with rear leaf springs. Nice to see this one in the video with an extra antenna....

On the bright side a new radiator is probably, like $10 lol.
Edit: if you're wondering I just checked eBay they're actually only around $45 for the El cheapos including shipping and for a good all aluminum custom one it's $140 for a name brand one is only around $60- $70.

Fun video. Love Tyler’s WJ GC. I had my ‘00 for 16 years, did a fair bit of off roading the decade I had it in Colorado. Was surprisingly capable stock. Haven’t taken my WK2 GC off road beyond some gravel roads in NE Ohio

That is an off road park? Here in Arkansas that is just our local city streets. No great video Jake looks like lots of fun. Miss having an off roader.
Having lived in the Wichita area, where there are really only creeks and hills to 4-wheel around. And then in the Denver area, where you have the Rockies and a plethora of different terrains, it’s funny to watch this. But hey, at least it was enjoyable to you.

Jake, nice video. Thank you for entertaining me! You were basically in right track with the 2wd car. Light vehicle and 2WD is doable, take a look for exaple to citroen 2cv. That's a proper off-roader with open diff with so narrow tires you could saw some wood with those :D I think you should try to re-try this but to prepare a bit better so that the small vehicle could handle this. Off-roading actually does not require lots of muscles but a suspension with lots of travel along with some control of it.

Hey Jake I got a story for you about festivas I had a good friend known him since junior high back in 1989 December they were closing out the 89 models of the festivas and they had three or four of them but they had two on the showroom floor a red one and a silver one so my friend was looking at the red one to buy his sister a Christmas present they were only about 7,000 brand-new the red one was a nice plane model it was just the L but it had am and FM cassette and he was adding an air-conditioned in it for his sister and I was saying boy these cars are so cheep you could buy two of them for the price of one car which is about 14 15,000 back then we're pretty nice car so we turned around went back in there and said I want the silver one to so he ended up buying one for his dad for a Christmas present a silver L with just am and FM and no air condition his Dad didn't really care one way or another for air condition and those were some good cars I'll tell you they had them the red one got totaled out and about six months with a head-on collision. But the silver one they had it for years until it finally died but it was a good car.
Yeah, they looked cheap & very unreliable but were surprisingly very reliable once a few common issues were fixed.

I've had similar noise on my car after changing the struts and realized that the nut holding the struts to the upper mount was loose so after retorking the nuts it went away.
I once lifted the back of a Ford Fiesta. 💪🏋♀️

Go to Andrew Camarata here on the tube, and watch his video every vehicle i have ever owned. The off roading carnage, and old footage is crazy. His whole channel when it comes to a review of any vehicle will let you know what vehicle can survive his testing, and I ain't kidding. The fiesta did pretty good, considering it's not really made for this kind of testing lol. Merry Christmas.

I am not exactly sure what damage the fiesta took all together. Was it just a radiator line blow a whole in itself or did you blow it up completely. If it didn't die beyond repair then I say fix it and put some cheap snow tires on the front and try that hill again.
If you had not sold it I would say clearly it just needs an LS swap. It is amazing what trouble 0 overhangs and minimal wheelbase can squeak through. Would be funny if you could find a Justy and keep up with the big boys.
That clunk/ riddle was from the steering rack not the control arms

I know much of Tuttle Creek isn't too hard, but almost nobody aired down :) the gray WJ and the Red XJ it looks like.

If you had better tires I think it would have gone much better. I threw some 25 inch tires on the stock steel wheels.
If you reversed up that hill you will be at the top in the first attempt. I done a lot of off roading with a old Renault 11 hHa
I think it was the metalcore that killed it. Needed some nice Power Metal to see you up the hill
Need to find a working junkyard Suzuki Samuri frame put the Fiesta body on it.
I wonder how complicated it'd be to, add an electric motor to each rear wheel & small battery pack.
Years I'd be embarrassed to drive Festiva around. But the car looks much better lifted,with the fender flares. A small winch on the bumper would have probably got him up the hill.
I think a lifeted 4wd hybrid Festiva would cool AF. Use standard 120V🔌to charge plus 2 or 300w of solar on the hood & roof to help charge. Maybe add a few extra hp to engine & bigger alternator so some alternator power could be fed to charge battery bank when needed. Something like that.
