  • In Part 3 of the Refrigeration Basics series, Bert and Elliot take the classroom outside to apply what was covered in the previous lessons to actual HVAC equipment. They walk through the refrigerant circuit from the evaporator to the condenser, identifying each component and explaining the conditions of the refrigerant at each point.
    Bert provides hands-on demonstrations, having the techs feel the temperature differences before and after the metering device to illustrate the flashing/boiling process. They discuss concepts like flashing gas, pressure drops across metering devices, the effects of restrictions, and the importance of keeping coils clean for efficient heat transfer.
    Elliot points out diagnostic tricks like listening for certain sounds that can indicate flashing is occurring due to insufficient liquid supply reaching the metering device. Together, they reiterate the refrigerant states (pressure, temperature, phase) throughout the cycle, reinforcing key concepts through real-world examples.

    4 years ago I was an unemployed operations manager who had just quit a 90k a year stable job. Decided I wanted to get into hvac that summer, had no idea how I was going to do it. Got into apartment maintenance and spent 2 years learning hvac basics working on apartment heat pumps and watching Migliaccio, Ty, Kalos, and others on RUclips. Today I am the top selling technician at one of the best companies in my region and lining up interviews for comfort consultant roles with a goal of making 150-250k annual. I’ve done dozens of manual Ds, dozens of installs, sold dozens of new systems from simple 14.3 heat pumps to water furnaces. HVAC is an amazing career path and still in its infancy, we’re going to learn so much about energy movement in this trade over the next couple decades.

      @@RickMiMann415 I would advise Anyone wanting to do this to forego trade school and go work in property maintenance for a couple years like I did and consume every video that Migliaccio, Ty, and Kalos put out in the last five years. Get Craig‘s air conditioning service book and memorize it cover to cover. That’ll give you what you need to get your foot in the door in dedicated HVAC role. I’m not sure if it’s a generational thing or what but the two companies I’ve worked for, we’ve had nothing but problems out of young guys out of trade school. They don’t know how to work and they don’t know anything but basic theory. Working in maintenance and studying those materials will give you real world hands-on experience.

    Is there a scenario that refrigerant gets past the metering device and it is still liquid? (I realize something would be wrong if so)

    • @user-kn8pq9ru7s
      @user-kn8pq9ru7s 2 месяца назад +1

      @russturner2490 well it’s already a mix of semi liquid and flash gas so yes it’s possible if there’s a damaged or stuck open metering device
