Dave Cousins has written some Truly Beautiful Songs Over the Years; so underrated as a musician, singer & composer. This is an excellent Acoustic cover of a Gorgeous song.
I had a friend that always seemed to come up with unique and eclectic albums; Strawbs was one of them, even though rare here in the U.S. during the 70’s. Every single person whom I’ve played their albums, became lifelong fans. And what’s even more amazing, is all of were hard-rock fans, with little care for anything else resembling folk. But Strawbs just grabs you with their amazing talent, lyrics and song structures. And yes sooooo underrated! 😊 Thanks for all the music…
The first time I listened to Hero and Heroine I knew I'd stumbled into genius. That has never changed. They are older, wiser, and still one of the best bands of my youth.
Yes, both under rated and under appreciated. Yet there are those of us who know...I never thought I'd be listening to an acoustic version some 35 years later...
Sadly, one of the most under rated Bands. These guys have been and still are one of the most Musical Songwriters and Performers ever ! Even sadder is the fact that they were under rated in their own country. A great shame indeed. I loved them them and adore them now. Thanks guys. You are GREAT !!!!!!!!
THIS was STRAWBS at it's best .Dave lambert still brilliant despite his age.Busting at the seams and Grave new World must rank as best folk rock Brit music of all time .Thank you Strawbs.
+Jazz van Gogh The artists' artists? ...at least the Kinks made airplay. I ever understood how it was near everyone I ever met never heard of them? (The Strawbs) Even those who may have heard Sandra Denny. Though we admirers may be mere fans, and not a multitudinous mass, we are indeed blessed at that.
@@misstreebird Well, you are not right, not 'near everyone! I am familiar with The Strawbs since 1968, and I lived in ex Yugoslavia at the time. (BTW, Sandra is Sandy!) :)
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Jacoby Arlo I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
"Hold on to me, I'll hold on to you The winter long I will always be with you." I sense Autumn coming on The mist has hung low all day Small birds gather on the wing Preparing to make their way. The trees begin to show A trace of brown among the green Bringing back the memories That only you and I have seen. I sense Autumn coming on The sun sinking red and deep The fires burning in the fields As late Summer falls asleep. The leaves begin to scatter As the North wind calls their name Folding gently back into The silent earth from which they came. The Winter Long (Cousins) Still waters flow Sea breezes blow Wild flowers grow Abundant at your feet. Soft falling snow Warm candle glow Flushed faces show The pleasure when we meet. Hold on to me, I'll hold on to you The winter long I will always be with you. Hold on to me, I'll hold on to you I will be the one who will always see you through.
Right on man. This group made some nice music overshadowed by the hugeness of the 2nd wave supergroups coming in that British wave. Had no idea Dave Bainbridge did this tour with Strawbs! Breathing new life of the generation into their sound, his genius crosses all boundaries. Also, the modern technology gives a new feel as well. Thanks so much for this. Super!!❤
"The Winter Long" was the song my wife (rest her soul) and I wanted for our wedding song, but the band never learned it. Our big day was April 17, 1977, but Strawbs were playing at the Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ that night. I left a note with the theater manager to have the band dedicate the song to us. Don't know if they ever did. My wife passed away February 21, 2010. Ah, me.
If you are anywhere in the Tri state area, NJ to be specific, they are playing in Montclair NJ this Saturday nigh at the Outpost. So looking forward to going !!
I consider Queen‘s Bohemian Rhapsody and Strawbs Autumn to be the greatest songs of the 20th century. These songs always make me feel calm, drowsy, and alone in the warm sunlight.
Ye gads--absolutely fantastic performance! I've seen the Strawbs live (in U.S.) at least two dozen times, and this matches, or beats, the best I can remember.
What a out of the ordinary band the Strawbs are !! Get their later years albums; and buy one for a friend. Their acoustic shows and albums are a fantastic view of the band at their prime in later years. The acoustic versions have a deep that touches the soul. Check out also, their respective solo albums because are good.
I first heard them on CHUM FM in Toronto in the early 70's and been a fan ever since. Got to see them once at Massey Hall in Toronto, a treat for sure.
Been reading the comments on here. Seems there is still a great appreciation for good music out there. But I don't thin k we should confuse under-rated with unrecognized. The Strawbs were one of a collection of such acts that remained true to their art. Other examples are Wishbone Ash and Humble Pie. In those days, record labels wielded great power and would pressure acts to conform to their commercial tastes. Those who resisted wound up like this. Loved by their core fans and unrecognized by the world at large. An example of one who caved is Elton John. His early work is absolutely brilliant, but after Yellow Brick Road, he became the poster boy for soft rock. And to the guy who went from folk to rock to prog rock and back to folk, check out Joe Bonamassa's Vienna Opera House concert on here. A guy who is regarded by many musicians as the best blues guitarist today ( and rightly so), rakes it down to acoustic, and surrounds himself with quality "unknowns". It's brilliant stuff.
5346565 great comment !! Very true ! ...I remember walking into the top Phx area record store of the day...many yrs ago (well over 2 decades; maybe closer 3 decades ago ) and looking for some older, rare stuff. When I asked for Strawbs, the owner complimented me...said you "have great taste !" and that it was also one of his favorite bands, so I was in luck. Every song weaved a story. Terrific English melody but each song was different. Great dialogue, great backgrd instrumentation; intertwining of some religious overtones a little more common in that era.
Always been one of my favs. Great songs...melodies...lyrics and production. I finally got to see them in a very small tea house, it was a dream for me.... check out Wishbone Ash, another great underrated band!!!
Saw them last night at the Tralf in Buffalo. My second acoustic Strawbs show and easily the better of the two (the first they were the opener for Van der Graaf Generator, so played a much shorter set). They played both of these songs.
August. Summer prepares for sleep. Autumn watches patiently from her perch in forgotten places, ready to warn the living again of the mortality of things with falling leaves and cold winds

Amen--agreed !!
Your so right
And still being listened too! 😍
To pull this off acoustically is amazing. True musicianship at its finest! Great performance.

Hero and Heroine was and still is a superb album
Dave Cousin's voice, one of a kind!
Great band
Unquestionably!!
Wonderful - how many years I have listened to Strawbs!!!!!
Accoustically, the song is even better!
I listen to a lot of electric guitar music but sometimes the simple sound of acoustic and harmony is to be treasured.
Awesome grandad
Glad you like them.
Of course this is not true acoustic! They do have pickups on those Axes! But It is wonderfull :-)
Last song of the night. Heavenly sounds greatest feeling ever.
The Strawbs 🍓 what Beautiful Sounds and So over looked 🤔 😍 Thanks for Posting This 👏👍 😎 ✌️ ❣️
Just like the Kinks, one of the greatest bands that never was, these gentlemen have always inspired me through out the years, long may they run!

Dave Lambert. Truly underrated guitarist
Wow just brilliant ☺️

My sympathies on your loss.
Lambert is magnificent throughout.
Just amazing the Strawbs we will always hold on to your music till we die and even then soaring
trough the sky in their melodies!!!!!!!
Gave me chills up and down this 66 yr old spine!!!
If you are anywhere in the Tri state area, NJ to be specific, they are playing in Montclair NJ this Saturday nigh at the Outpost. So looking forward to going !!
That young Mr Cousins is a genius, he'll go far 😎😎
Every incarnation of the Strawbs is special.
I consider Queen‘s Bohemian Rhapsody and Strawbs Autumn to be the greatest songs of the 20th century. These songs always make me feel calm, drowsy, and alone in the warm sunlight.
Merveilleux, j'ai la chair de poule, autant de belle musique bien vivante.
Merci Strawbs.
Music transcends all languages
Saw Strawbs live a couple of times in Harrogate back in the 70s at Royal Hall. Play on. 🇬🇧❤️

Thanks for posting this; I've listened to Strawbs for many decades but never heard this attempted acoustically - love this version.
Three acoustic guitars and vocals capture the essence of the original tracks. I wish I were there.
I love this acoustic version!
3 acoustic guitars capture the essence of the songs.
Masterpiece! They are amazing!
Wow...I have been also a long time Strawbs fan of korea from 80's, in my high school days. Still they rock.
Saw the strawbs live when I was 17..They still have it. Dave's voice is totally unique. Love it.
Just today I got a '74 vinyl pressing of "Hero And Heroine" :)
Was blessed to see them in 2003, in a small venue in Milwaukee. Mesmerizing.
I'm so glad I got to see them several years ago at a quaint little venue. I've been a fan since the 70s.
Awesome!!!! Great!! Acoustic, sounds really fantastic!!! I love this guys

Awesome! I'm a long time Strawbs Fan from the Hero and Heroin era.

가을이 오니 더 마음에 와닿네요....
Visti dal vivo con questa formazione: lacrime dall'inizio alla fine!

Also, got me interested in Dean Guitars. Cronk and Lambert are both playing Deans.
