- While I wouldn't describe this as my favorite music from Elden Ring I really appreciate the strength and ethereal quality that comes through. It's an emotional piece marked by duty and responsibility but also danger. Fun stuff.

"Lots of movement" CORRECT please let me drink my flask
I'm sure you've met Gaius by now... do you care to apologize to Lady Rellana?
I'll drink to that.... LONG MAY THE SUN SHINE! *swigs*
Lmao
"I could be totally off" and then proceeds to be way too accurate, I love how much you can understand from a character based on their soundtrack
Yh if u read abt it before “blindly reacting to it” .
Because maybe he researched?
That tells you too how much the fromsoft team are in tune. The musicians nail the Lore and Gameplay feeling In an amazing way.
Good story telling from musicians and great understanding from music lover
The official title is "Twin Moon Knight", but I like to give it another name, something like "OH MY GOD COULD YOU PLEASE END THE DAMN COMBO ALREADY?!"
Apprentice to Pontiff Sulyvahn.
I was amazed at the absolute tungsten wall that is her poise
She was the first taste of long ass combos, but I wish I could fight her again cause the others are worse.
@@dnlkr the child of Pontiff and Lady Maria...
She’s still giving me trouble 👿 Time to go get good
You can hear Rennala's motif at 1:12
Literally best part ❤ They're sisters after all.
@@TigraSpartan I love when there's storytelling in music 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Another boss has someone else’s motif to her theme 🌺🌝
@@sebastianestrada3697 yeah I just fought her yesterday lol
@@sebastianestrada3697 And another 🔥👹
Rellana fights like if Pontiff Sully and Lady Maria had a daughter and I love every second of it. 10/10 would let her stomp my guts again
Facts bro, I was about to first try her with a mimic in first playthrough. But then let her kill me cos of how good the ost was and her amazing moveset as well. Took me 5 hrs to solo her but enjoyed the ost so much I didn't mind getting destroyed lol
@mra.m.gaming4825 glad you accepted the challenge bro, we both struggled for hours but the satisfaction completely pays it of
Don‘t forget the sword she got from uncle Raime
Heh
I destroyed her ahh 😏
You are completely right!!! I noticed the same thing, especially after fighting her 30 times 😂
its crazy how the music can paint such a clear picture where someone who has never played can still extrapolate the story extremely accurately
Dude you are describing Rellana’s lore damn near perfectly, god Fromsoft music communicates things so well
3:12, brother, how do you get it so right from just hearing the music. Rellana left her homeland and gave up her responsibility as a Carian princess to serve Messmer. Maybe out of love or infatuation but whatever it is she essentially became his sworn blade. But now, after the crusade and after the founding of the Golden Order, Messmer and his legion have been left in the Land of Shadow, forgotten and obscured. The great sin of Messmer’s crusade hidden away so that the new Order can flourish. And now Messmer, along with Rellana sit idly, holding to their purpose they swore to so long ago. It’s interesting that Marco points out an air of reluctance, possibly this was meant to convey how Rellana was feeling after the crusade had concluded.
Also: 7:25 this could be a reference to Rellana and Messmer again two very distinct people from very different backgrounds working in surprising unison. Kinda a reflection of the fire giants and the astrologers creating a bond between the moon and flame, only now Messmer represents flame and Rellana the moon.
Bayle the Dread is one of my new favorite boss tracks of Fromsoft games. Incredibly epic (especially for a Bass Trombonist such as myself. You can hear them ripping through the intense brass sections.)
I've been fighting him like 6 hours by now and I totally agree , also a rally badass fight
One of my favorite songs of the expansion so far is [behind Messmer's castle spoilers]
Scadutree Avatar, which has a dark remix of the Erdtree Avatar theme plus a Sealed Vessel esque turn at the end
Ya Bayle grinded me into dust for hours 😂 great music with a great cinematic boss fight
One of the few bosses I was allowed to cast anything other than carian slicer against T-T this DLC is silly for pure magic builds...
It is extremely tragic, dramatic and epic, you can realy feel onbsession.
Here is somewhat i know about the Lore but correct me if i am wrong.
Relana is the younger sister of Renala, while her big sister was more of a wizard type, her younger sister trained with the Carian Knights. When the golden order went to war with Carian Royal Family, Relana was tasked to take a contengent into the Shadow Lands. Thats where Messmer the Impaler was but once the war was over and hence came to peace Relana went into his service. It is possible the Relana dosent know the fate of her sister and her house while still being in service to Messmer. She is a Royal duty bound princess, hence a knightly music.
no she is the big sister she leave the throne of caria for messmer
@@tristangrolleau8098 she's the younger. It's in her Twin Moon spell
I like how she devoted herself to Messmer with no return but the both of them are tired of fighting this "war" as they were abandoned by Marika, she really is ride or die with him.
@@Urd-Vidan Really? Rellana's remembrance says "Once a Carian princess, Rellana disavowed her birthright and chose to stand at Messmer's side instead". I think if she had a birthright (to be a queen) that states she was the older one. In history every time the older gets the birthright to rule
@@kingdope7840 birthright is still given to any female family member. She would still be behind Ranni in the throne cus she's the sister, but she has the right to be queen if ever Ranni isn't available for the position
Also, it's literally said in the twin moon spell:
*"Sorcery of Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight.
Associated with a Carian princess.
Incarnate overlapping twin moons which strike the ground one
after the other, violently shaking the earth with moonlight.
In her childhood, she and her elder sister Rennala met these
moons. Overlapping, as though nestled against one another."*
You should absolutely listen to Midra, Lord of the frenzied flame. It’s the soundtrack that stood out the most to me.
It even has a leitmotif to the song that the merchants play. Which is a nice reference if you know a bit of their story
Midra was great. I liked Romina and Bayle a lot as well.
My jaw dropped, when the leitmotiff in that song began. That, and when the Bass came in. Anarchy, chaos, and madness in one song, and it is glorious!
@@emilpedbass is sooo good. Goosebumps every time
It SHOCKS ME how well you can piece together lore just from MUSIC
I love this boss fight. It was pretty amazing.
Her twin moon ability was so freaking cool.
Fun fact! Renalla and Rellana have similar names cus they're twins apparently
Edit: Not twins just sisters, Rellana is younger
so radagon sister in law, got it
@@kaycex1 And thus also the aunt of the new Lord Consort and his husband, whom she is also the aunt of. G.R.R.M must be proud of what Miyazaki created using his lore.
Sisters, not twins. Renalla is likely the eldest, Rellana is stated to have been the youngest. Funny she simped on her nephew messmer.
Yep
And doesn’t that just make it a headache to figure out where this falls in the timeline.
The legend has it that somewhere deep below the Shadow lands there are ancient ruins that home the trailer versions of all the souls ost-s.
Dude, it's insane how you analyze these tracks before you've played the DLC and you manage to parse the lore almost perfectly. It really goes to show how intricately crafted the music is.
Her theme reminds me of both Hornet's theme and the Mantis Lords's theme for some reason
Now that you mention it, I can absolutely hear it as well!
quick, string-driven, regal feeling, minimal percussion, theme for a feminine warrior with an elegant but lethal combat style
yeah they like those quick strings
Viola being so front and center in the melody is beautiful storytelling in music. Viola is often considered second to the violin, which fits Rellana's place as Messmer's right hand, his sword in their crusade against the hornsent. You could even view the dance between the high strings dancing around the cello's legato lines as the way Rellana has bound her fate to Messmer's will through an unrequited love.
Absolutely masterful composition
Id heavily recommend "the promised consort", it's the OST of the final boss of the DLC and may remind you of someone
Simply the best one!
Probably one of the best ost across the entire From series
DUDE.
I CAN'T FATHOM HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS GUY BECAUSE HE REALLY UNDERSTAND MUSIC THEORY AND KNOWS STORY BEHIND IT WITHOUT EVEN PLAYING THE GAME
I RECALL THIS HAPPENS A FEW TIMES BACK ON MONSTER HUNTER MUSIC ALSO
DAMN UR GOOD
My recommendation is saint of the bud, there’s just something about it’s higher pitch and flowing beauty that I love so much.
This theme for a lot people, made people miss the choirs from Dark Souls 3, and compound that with Rellana's moveset in the game is very much inspired by Pontiff Sulyvahn from Dark Souls 3.
I finished the dlc yesterday and it was absolutely AMAZING! (And extremely difficult even for a souls veteran)
This dlc also gave me Midra which was my favorite boss fight in the dlc and is now probably my favorite fromsoft music piece hands down.
Midra and Rellana were definitely the most fun I've had fighting a boss in any soulsborne game. Amazing and satisfying gameplay from both of those bosses. They really felt like true 1v1 duels where the boss and I were on equal footing.
Love watching your SOTE reviews, can’t wait for you to listen to more!

Midra ost aka lord of the frenzied flame is prolly the best track of the dlc you will understand when you listen to it but bayle also good one
So take Rennala + Pontiff Sulyvahn + Malenia's movement + Insane Poise, that's Rellana she's an absolute beast, and I'm crushing for her hard
At least you can knock her down by just 4 heavy unsheathe, unlike Radahn, for example...
@@TigraSpartan I'm not saying she has the highest poise, but for how fast and comparatively small she is compared to other enemies, she's an absolute tank, like a honey badger
Pointiff was a tyrant and a far more sinister person lore wise.
@@georgiospapaioannou-xc9pb oh undeniably, I just meant gameplay
I’d swap the Malenia analogy out for Lady Maria. I mean heck, they both coat their swords with forsaken elemental power midway through their fights as well, on top of being graceful duelists with two swords
I've been enjoying your reactions to the OST. You're really good at noticing and pointing out the great small things in the music. When playing the game, you barely realize just how much is in the soundtrack because you're sweating so much!
The driving strings are interesting to me because it's a pretty mechanically dense fight despite being an optional boss that's seemingly gated as a mandatory boss. You used the phrase "push and pull" and I think that's a fantastic way of theme-ing this fight and boss.
I loved the use of strings in this one! Can't wait to see you breakdown. Lord of Frenzy, Bayle the Dread, St Trina, St of The Bud and Promised Consort are some of my favorites!
What's worse than a giant magic moon?
TWO GIANT MAGIC MOONS
(And an arena turned pain-trampoline)
I think you're gonna love Bayle and Romina's tracks. Always great when you upload a Boss OST reaction.
Crazy I’ve seen nobody suggest the Romina Saint Of The Bud OST Literally my favourite, great reaction
One thing I find really interesting is that the first phase sounds a lot like the music played in one of the trailers for the DLC (It could just be that they used this ost for the trailer, but I still felt like pointing it out)
Yep, i was looking for this comment. This theme def is the closest to the first SotE gameplay reveal trailer music, sadly, it's not as bombastic and the cello hook is changed
Your spot on it's a rearrangement of the gameplay trailer for the dlc
I got to the end of the game thinking 'I swear I didn't hear the epic trailer song anywhere' & then realised on my NG7 playthrough that this boss has it remixed lol. I wish the OG theme was in the game though
This is so DS3 it’s INSANE
straight up lol, I was so surprised to find this wasn't composed by Kitamura
I'm getting Lady of the Astral Clocktower vibes
What I love about this boss is that as challenging as she was, it could've been way harder had they went full Pontif Sully with her move-set. They stayed their hand which is both hilarious, and terrifying. XD
@@akithelostfly4626full pontiff sulley? Bro she’s got even longer attack strings than him 😭
Consider her name is a Twin moon…

Amazing how he nails the lore without knowing it. Dude is a genius
This was the first major song you hear from the Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay trailer! Somewhere during the last stretch of development they rearranged this. The trailer arrangement has the more standard Elden Ring harsh grandeur that you spoke of.
They absolutely cooked with this DLC's music, honestly this elevates ER music to be top1 for me.
I'd love to see him react to the music and see what the bosses actually look like to compare his initial thoughts! The Midra video was almost perfect!
You know what would be another amazing soundtrack to react to?
"Okami"!
Everything about this fight was perfect and my favorite of the dlc. Listening to this theme during the fight felt like i was almost dancing with rellana. Her moveset is so fluid and graceful but fierce and aggressive at the same time which the theme conveys so well. Its a nice twist to Rennala's theme.
The thing I like about Rellana's music is that that second part is basically a warning, it tells you that you've pushed her to the brink and now she's truly fighting which is why the second part feels so much more aggressive. She wants you to know that before she was not serious or that she's become desperate to stop you and is pulling out all the stops.
Rellana is Rennala's sister who stayed behind to fight with and for the man she loved; forfeiting her royal titles. She is blocking the path forward towards that man she loves (Messmer).
I am always amazed how you can gather all this from the music Marco!
Its crazy how spot on he gets the character from the music alone
I love how he hit it on the head about Rellana’s situation.
Honestly, this was one of the best bosses so far in the DLC. It felt incredibly fair, and just epic.
cant wait for u to cover midra ost
Really love that all the soundtracks in from games tend to explain whats happening, a good to song to check out could be the promised consort! its the final bosses, and you might feel familiar with it :)
I can't tell if you were joking when you said that Rennala and Rellana sounding similar must be a coincidence, especially given the name of the song.
I immediately recognized Rennalas melody being played, which was a nice surprise, and in this case tells you more about the character than the name or visual design manages.
This is my favourite OST on the DLC along with Midra's theme. Also my favourite boss fight.
Waiting room for Romina ost
Immediate Pontiff Sulyvahn vibes as soon as she entered her second phase. What an incredible fight.
I can feel it, even in the music....i can feel her comboing me to death.....
Never-ending slashes, glintstone magic blades...
MAKE...HER....STOP
you have to check out the Scadurtree Avatar. One of the most emotional themes in the DLC
Rain from the Heavens, Tears from the Twin Moons
Rellana’s theme felt regal and imposing. So I found it interesting hearing you state “regality”
I imagine the conductor looks much like her when making this song 🎵
Im getting PTSD hearing this theme 😂 my adrenaline is ready, it was such a long fight. Worth every respawn.
Edit: you mentioned nobility and it also reflects gameplay because you have to play it perfectly, like matching the boss
It's not random the mages name people similarly there is also a carian knight named moonithyl and there was a carian knight named moongrum
My headcanon for the knights is that “Moon” is added to their name as a prefix to honor them joining the Carian knights, so they’d be Grum and Rithyll, beforehand.
@@Miner49er201the evergaoled troll Bols, Carian Knight doesn't have the moon prefix however, though I do like the idea
@@minerman60101 moonballs

old mate describing the lore exactly while saying "I could be totally off"
narrator: he wasn't
10:44 I think this part is long bc this is a game and the music has to repeat until the fight end, maybe they set it longer to make seamless transition.
The guy discovered the character's lore just by listening to the song, impressive
I'd be so interested to hear your reaction to Bayle the Dread. It's like the musical personification of being overpowered, wearing headphones is almost a must when fighting it- the music gets so loud compared to other tracks in the game that it gets distorted, like the presence of the boss is literally affecting the music, bass boosted, distorted bass just blasting in your ears. I don't care even if it is a mixing error, it added so much to the fight for me, it was incredible
This might be super obvious thats why no ones said it but, her theme sounds a lot like the trailer theme itself for the dlc
I am really hoping Marco checks out Metyr's theme, and then eventually looks at her appearance too
Rellana is Renallas sister btw also you should really listen to "The Promised Consort" it's the final DLC boss theme and it's AMAZING. I'd really enjoy see and hearing you pick that one apart.
It’s actually astounding and I was left nearly speechless
The drums almost make me feel like im in a knights parade while fighting this boss
This knight is little the love child between Pontiff and The Dancer
I loved rellana's fight so much, I downloaded mods just to be able to fight her nonstop.
everything you said is 100% on the dot and one thing to add is the desperation, from both rellana and the player, as the fight goes on that repetition emulates that desperation, we both want to succeed and we're both growing more desperate as we lose HP.... honestly the music had me fucking sweating in that second phase
please listen to the OST while the boss fight is happening, same goes with divine beast dancing lion, if you dont see the fight itself, you wouldn't know what each part of the OST is related to (the dancing lion using elements to fight and OST changes based on the element the lion is using) and this Rellana when she enters her second phase
i swear that you can hear for the dark soul in this track
When i fought rellana i immediately got Pontiff Sulyvahn PTSD. I love this fight soooooooo much
This music feels more akin to Dark Souls style in character AND IT'S SO GOOD. Never really felt that same quality with the other Elden Ring themes, not in the quantity Dark Souls had at least, although Elden Ring has some bangers.
A bit of it at the beginning reminds me a lot of the Moonlight Butterfly/Gwyndolin theme and then the strings has the same intensity as Slave Knight Gael
Please try Midra Lord of Frenzied Flame that's the best in DLC.
not pictured: the player getting bounced like a ball by her big twin moons
The name “Rellana” is in fact NOT random. Rellana is Rennala’s sister. I believe Rellana is the older sister. Some say they’re twins but I’m not entirely sure of that.
I just want to see him react to Ost of Midra lord of the Franzied Flame, that Ost there gives me goosebumps in some parts.
This and Divine Beast have been stuck in my head for days, the repetitiveness as mentioned has been drilled into my head and it's stuck, Midra is the only other remembrance boss to stick with me with the big brass. Admittedly I've only encountered so many.
There is an alternate version of this theme, which played in the shadowlands gameplay trailer. I'm so sad it isn't present in the DLC😞 what is your opinion on that?
Get this on Spotify I need to have all of these downloaded yesterday
Rellana be like: "F**** or f***, either way you will be broken in half by the end." 😂
This is like pontiff sulyvahn had a daughter who he never know
Check out the other ost like promised consort!
I ost I really loved was the death knight in the fog rift catacombs , so good
loved this fight, love the boss, love this OST
Strings, strings everywhere!
The shaman village track is so underrated
You should react to midra’s theme. he was one of my fav bosses in the dlc and his theme is really haunting and amazing.
In Elden Ring FromSofts began very clearly sinchronize music with movements and actions of characters.
Check out the lord of the frenzied flame, it’s my favorite SotE OST. The song is a fantastic representation of madness for me. Also the Promised Consort is fantastic as well.
Ngl this one is my favourite.

No spoilers please, I just beat the twin moon knight and recognized rennala's theme, mixed with the trailer theme. I have a theory that the trailer theme actually exist and may be Messmer phase 1, as like the twin moon knight is a mixture of those two influences. Please don't comment on this, I just had to share my thoughts, I'll be back after Messmer
It's a good theme but I do wish they used the version from the trailers. For example the collector's edition trailer.
