The carpet tape worked like a breeze! I kept fiddling around with the hot glue gun and the glue kept hardening before I could position it. Great video!
It would have been better to put the double sided adhesive at the seems of the base plates and the edges (border) so that when you need to remove legos you're not pulling up the edges of the base plates.
This is so awesome. I was thinking I'd just have to make my own Lego table from scratch to get something with good dimensions to hold white baseplates, but this is way easier, not to mention cheaper and probably even better looking! Thank you!
So I just went to Ikea and Lego, got what I needed; EXCEPT for the hangers for the drawer. What'd Y'all do? If you got it at IKEA, what was the name of the product. the person I asked there said that the bins go with the furniture. No separate gliders

Regarding the Trofast railing, my local IKEA does not sell any of the children’s furniture items in the scratch/dent/clearance section due to safety concerns, I get it, they had those lawsuits- they suggested I call CS. I did that and they sent me 4 Trofast rails free of charge. Excellent experience, just don’t expect to find the spare parts in store, it’s not guaranteed.

@@AutismJourney_BeKind Depending on how thick the mounting tape is, it should be ok. Carpet tape is really thin but super sticky, so it doesn't raise up the baseplates off the table. Thicker mounting tape might make the surface uneven.

You can't physically buy the rails off the shelf, because they are pre-built into furniture. What I did was went to the customer service department at IKEA and asked. At first the guy was confused and told me I'd have to buy the whole piece of furniture with the rails attached, so I explained the IEKA hack and what I wanted to do with them and he eventually found the part. They posted them out to me free of charge! They turned up in the mail today, I got 8 of them. Very impressed with the service from IKEA.I did not realise that you can get spare parts for free from there.
@@kellyjohnston2712 Im glad that you were able to get the rails for your table. My experience was the opposite at the Ikea store in Columbus Ohio. I explained the project as you did but I never used the phrase Ikea Hack. the manager, Bright Cane, ( yes that's his name) was very nasty and rude when he told me that they do not give replacement parts for Ikea hacks. its against their policy to manipulate and change their furnitures original state. I then said, "well heres my receipt, it belongs to me now, and I can do whatever I want to it." He said he was not giving me rails to destroy their furniture. And he went on to say that I may attempt to return the lack table if my project didn't turn out good. And of course if I did that Ikea would have every right not to accept the return. But my problem is that I purchased 4 lack tables and 4 bins along with a lot of other items. As long as all the products came from Ikea what difference does it make how I interchange them. That's the basis and concept of their products anyway. Needles to say im going back tomorrow and hopefully that asshole wont be there. if im not successful then I will have to call order them.

I definitely prefer the double sided carpet tape! The plates stay down much better with the tape, and it's faster and easier too!
