First off, it’s not a “road. The video is a bit deceiving about its actual width. It’s not as wide as a typical road.
2nd, the police didn’t run head on with the person. That would imply 2 vehicles in motion toward each other. The officer was stopped.
@Faq-ubeach idiot it is a closed road so yes it is actually 2 full lanes wide with lane markings. And if any car ever crosses the center line in front of a vehicle that is at speed (knowingly) without enough distance for both vehicles to stop that is exactly "head on"
The officer knew exactly what he was doing there was no reason what so ever to think a teenager riding an atv was all of a sudden going to turn into a homicidal maniac. The kid deserved a ticket or an arrest not to be murdered with a car.

If you google search the story, the police lights were on. Even if they weren't on, any driver should be attentive to the road and stop as necessary, like a huge obstacle (patrol car) in your way. And should we pretend that the ATV speeding by a group of unaware pedestrians, as ATVs are prohibited on that path, is not putting them in danger in the first place? The difference is it's a walkway, it's not for motor vehicles it was closed to motor vehicles. The ATV shouldn't of even been there to begin with. He broke the law so the cop in turn was trying to shield others from the ATV. It doesn't matter if his intention wasn't to hurt other people or not. It's still dangerous to travel at a high rate of speed when there's a speed limit sign saying that you shouldn't be traveling at that speed.

Who said the cop was trying to turn around. Follow the story, the cop pulled his vehicle into the left lane to stop the atv, he did stop it and almost killed the atv rider, the officer didn't accomplish his task at hand. He did stop the atv but the rider wasn't killed, he's most likely going be a vegetable now because of his injuries.

Speed limit sign said 25 mph, but it didn't apply since it was closed for motorized vehicles. The wreck was bound to happen even if the cop wasn't there. Driving fast on a pedestrian path is super dangerous.

It’s not the cops responsibility to make sure the guy knew how to drive it safely. The ATV driver hit him, and the ATV wasn't supposed to be there to begin with. Even if he was allowed to be there, he was going WAY over the posted speed limit. This is an open and shut case. The judge will throw it out. The ATV driver played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.
Not so sure about that. If there were no pedestrians, maybe? But because there were pedestrians, cop could argue that he was protecting people from the ATV. Also, if you watch the video. The ATV comes into frame around at 52 seconds. The police decides shield the pedestrians at 57 seconds. 5 seconds is ample time for the ATV driver to slow down and stop as soon as he saw the police car from the top of the incline. It could be argued that he was not intending to stop because of the excessive speeds he was going. To add to that, at 59 seconds in, you can see the ATV is completely turned sideways with 2 wheels off the ground, It can be argued that the ATV driver never intended to stop and maybe misjudged the ATVS ability to turn, compared to let's say a motorcycle, thus causing him to lose control and crash into the police car.

The officer had enough time to maneuver and stay still for a second while he was flighing trough the path. The facts is that the ATV collided, and it could’ve ended better if he was going at a decent speed (like 15 km/h, like common bikes).

Cop didn't handle it the right way and there was no guarantee the atv driver would have injured any of the walkers. It's different going around a 4 ft object vs a 14 ft object like a car. The pedestrians in the video before the collision were walking along the far side of the road.

Why didn't the ATV brake when it saw the car? If he couldn't brake then, would he be able to brake before colliding with people walking? Why was he riding an ATV on a pedestrian walkway where ATVs are not aloud?

What the cop did wasn't illegal the cop had the legal right to stop the ATV rider on an route that was on that is illegal making a false police report about anyone inculding cops can land you in in legal trouble for filing a false police report and that can cause the cops to not come to your cries for help for real emergencies in the future of of a history of filing a false police report.

There were pedestrians in his path that he could have easily injured. That’s a closed road and people use it daily for exercise. Joggers, kids and small dogs use it daily. The entrances are blocked off and the rider choose to ignore that.

I despise atvs almost all of them are going way to fast after hours and are loud. Id like to see them banned personally. But what this cop did was criminal. He wasnt protecting anybody. Caused tens of thousands in medical and property damage to do what exactly? Play judge jury and potentially executioner? no man completely unacceptable
He was protecting those cyclists that the ATV was heading towards to at a reckless speed. He could have easily hit any of them. As a cyclists you don’t expect an ATV going triple your speed flying up behind you.
