    I work at Zion lodge and a few years ago a fellow employee went up and fell a hundred feet or so. He broke his arms and legs. He had to be air lifted by a helicopter to the hospital. He was extremely lucky he didn’t die.

    Thanks for scrambling up (and back down) that canyon wall so I don't have to! On the less-sketchy side of the video, the bike ride up into the canyon has one of my favorite spots in Zion--there's a huge boulder on the right side of the road with a flat surface that reflects the sound of the Virgin River at you as you go by. With all of these permit systems and trail closures I'm really glad I started my National Park adventures in the 80s.

    At last I got back to watch this one. Holy....! You Park Junkie are full of surprises. I've never done anything like this. You are also a great teacher as well and a generous person also for giving pointers for people who might try things like this. So let me say our National Park System needs to use some of your stuff, give you a loud honorable mention and a piece of the gate. You sell our parks like no one else. You should be a spokesperson really. I know, I know don't go crazy. But I think about what your doing all of the time while hiking going back to get the camera or climbing up that chimney thing, going back down so you can clime back up, get the camera and move on? For Pete's sake did you call the bears back for the second insert edit? lol Your a good man Park Junkie. As always thanks for your work so potted plants get to see what you see. Happy trails :-)

    Never knew this "trail" existed. Alltrails only has 50 reviews. I suspect because it's not hiked often. This "trail" is destined to get more traffic in the coming years with permits hard to get for AL. Sure wish the NPS would repair some of the trails that were closed after the rock fall last year. If they don't, people will develop their own epic hikes.

    I hate the entry reservation garbage the NPS is doing at so many places. Lower middle class working people like me are the ones that get screwed over....gotta keep that riff-raff like me out of the rich folks and elite outdoors types way.

    • @penelopebartell840
      @penelopebartell840 2 года назад

      It’s not a perfect system. The reservations are only $2.00. That part doesn’t feel limiting.
      How would you solve the overcrowding and overuse issues? We live near Rocky. The crowding has been intense for years.

    • @harlandeke
      @harlandeke 2 года назад

      @@penelopebartell840 it's not the price, put some real thought to it and you will figure it out. A lot of us can't just go whenever we want, or more specifically whenever the government wants.

    • @penelopebartell840
      @penelopebartell840 2 года назад

      @@harlandeke Yes. I'm no longer able to go whenever I want either, during the summer. We didn't go all year until last weekend when I was able to get spots on a hiker shuttle, later than I would have preferred but early enough to get the hike in that I wanted to do.
      I used to head to the local NP often, after work, or on a random weekend day. And sometimes the desired trailhead parking was full and we had to turn around and go to plan b or c. A thing I try to avoid in most of life is the time wasted waiting in lines. Who wants to spend the day waiting in line and then waiting for a parking spot?
      Lines during the high season stretched into town. For an hour, spent in stop and go, even to get to the entry point where the annual pass used to permit automatic entry at the gate. It was pretty awful.
      How to handle the excessive crowds in places that are not equipped to handle (and shouldn't most likely due to the excessive stresses on the system). The parks are not fun when they're crowded.
      How would you solve for this? What we had wasn't working, as visitation at our closest NP has been up each year with record numbers of more than 4 million visitors each year since 2015. The pilot reservation system is not great, especially for locals like me and perhaps you (if you're local to a NP) and I don't know how best to solve it. I rarely plan in advance. I plan around the weather and work.
      We've been seeking out other options at state, regional, national forest and other wild places. And waiting until the shoulder and off season. The popular places still fill up in winter at peak times, but at least we can enter whenever we want.
