I seem to remember a certain David Cameron announcing his “highway to the sun” A303 mega project when he desperately needed all those Lib Dem seats that are in the West Country. IIRC he made a big deal about the benefits to the West Country economy and I also seem to remember the tories winning a big chunk of traditionally Lib Dem seats in the subsequent election ! As a local who was in favour of the tunnel I’m disappointed but not surprised ….. we’ve had months of mayhem due to the total closure of the A360 for power / fibre optic cables required for the now non existent tunnel. What a farce. That electrical infrastructure could probably be repurposed to support an enormous greenbelt housing development ………… Kerching !!
