  • In this video, we go over a fundamental technique of proper bike placement. The goal of this technique is to get the bike slowed and pointed such that you can optimize time at wide open throttle.
Video is from a weekend trackday even with N2 in the Advanced group.

Nice work, B-rent. I'm talking to you while watching and saying "gas on now" and you do it. Excellent. I come out of 14 and hit that "pointed" part of the yellow also. Kudos for helping to clearly educate other riders with actionable facts. Many who want to go faster start at carrying more speed at lean and more lean angle...wrong-ola.

I appreciate it, B-Rad. I'm looking forward to the next event, which might be my last one for the year. I was thinking about putting together a short series of these videos for a fun project. Hope you can contribute. :)

Love all the YCRS jargon....... for T14 I saw you stayed in a higher gear... would it be better to get down to a lower gear in something like an R6 or will that make the bike too twitchy on exit? I know a guy who highsided out of T14 from too low a gear

I'm also on an R6 and use 2nd gear for T14. 1st is too difficult to manage and 2nd let's me get on the gas earlier and harder with less risk.

Thanks for commenting! Gear selection for different turns on a racetrack will be a bike dependent situation. In my case, 2nd gear works as a compromise between exit drive and wheelie mitigation/chassis stability. On other bikes, 1st gear may be totally acceptable and even objectively better when comparing the lap time data. I'm a data driven person, so I look at my split time reports and compare which change makes what difference in my overall performance. See what works for you!

I run an R6 and use second with stock gearing, just have to commit to the corner with proper technique and keep corner speed up. I run a 1:39.2 for reference.

Great time! I’d like to run some 30’s next year. Gotta keep practicing. 😀
