Jazz saxophonist Stan Getz had reed chirps in many, many of his recordings, as a sax player myself it made less critical of my inconsequential “mistakes”.
Love this. There are so many times when your playing and singing trying to get that perfect recording of yourself in an acoustic version. You screw up more times than you would like. I try to make sure I get most of the words right and chords but it’s not always going to be perfect. There is always something you won’t like in your recordings. Move on !
I came in early on a vocal take on one of my songs (My Postcard To You), realised my mistake, and picked up and continued. We kept the mistake in and it really added to the song (in more ways than one :)). Mistakes make it human, as you say Lewin.
My only concern is something called "demoitis". Its where you start liking a work simply cause it becomes familiar to you and it just seems good to you then, but to a new listener, not so much...I do shelf periods on work (usually 2 wks) and continue working on other projects and then circle back around to circumvent this.
I feel like Melodyne was the great bridge between getting the right performance in terms of emotional content and being able to make things sound closer to musically "perfect". Sometimes making someome do a take 50 times to get the right one isn't the answer. However you are totally right, mistakes are like the audio world's Easter eggs and sometimes they spark new ideas.
Also, another thing to note is prior practice and just playing with an idea outside of a serious recording take because that's where hidden potential lies. Having a phone or just having a track record can lead to a world of possibilities.
Hey Lewin how are you doing. I do have a question for you and I hope you know the answer. I used Reaper for a long time but this year I stept over to Logic Pro x. When I did some editing in Reaper, cutting a part of a track and deleted that part I could, I always could adjust the wave file by making it a little bit longer. But when I try to do this in Logic the wave file is a straight line ( I don't seethe original wave file anymore) after the cut when I make the track longer. I hope you understand what I mean. How can I repair a cut in Logic when I can't do the undo step? Greetings Rob from the Netherlands
Hi Lewin I have an idea for your next video. I can't find much info on line for this. How to organize your RUclips home page. For years I have just been loading videos not knowing where they will end up. Lately I discovered that videos have disappeared from sight as a new video appeared. Doing something wrong.
Good advice 👍🏻
I love this idea. Not necessarily a new concept but so damn true.My favorite thing you said, ART isn’t Perfect”…nor should it be.
One of Brian Eno's Oblique Strategies cards says: “Look closely at the most embarrassing details, and amplify them”
Brian Eno eats pie.
I did the exact thing, hitting a wrong note the other day, and it became my favourite bit! love this outlook 👏

The best video you've done yet.

A constant battle for me. What kind of artist I want to be.

A la John Frusciante style.
