Josh, Ford sells a diesel sealant TA-31. Use it on this engine. It is the best out there. It is made by Loctite. Gray in color. It was developed for turbo diesel engines. I use it on diff covers, water pumps, intake, etc. 40 years of wrenching experience and nothing is better.... just my educated .02. It is about $20 a tube at the dealership.
I used to work for Ford on the diesels and I will agree. It is the best stuff I have ever used to seal an engine. Once I get around to resealing my front cover and oil pan on my Cummins I'll be using this stuff.
I know you like Duramax diesels. It is cool to see you get excited over building a Cummins. Would be cool to hear your opinions of any Cummins strong points over a Duramax as you tear into this engine and learn more about it.
I've heard some early Cummins engines had a loud combustion, which made them very loud engines. Apparently they re-designed the pistons and injector injection rates to make them quieter and more powerful. I remember the article but I found the information while researching my noisy 2000 5.9.
I'm gonna be buying my FIRST DURMAX in three weeks. I found a hell of a deal on an 06 WHITE CREW CAB SHORT BED z71 4X4 FULLY LOADED LBZ!!! Gonna be doing all the upgrades I went through it FOLLOWING your advice man!!! Thank you so much I about got "gotten" on an 07 LBZ.... He almost got me with blown head gaskets for 8 grand I knew something was up... But man I'm so excited!!!!!
But the good 1/2” impact to get from HF is the Earthquake. No lie on the torque rating. It’s a Milwaukee clone. Took a Lunette ring off a 15 ton trailer, those 7” long 3/4” bolts. AvE has a good tear down review on those too.
Can't believe your working with Miller engine. Matt just built my bottom end on my lbz restoration that I started because of your channel what a crazy small world.
Hello from Canada! New subscriber and first time Duramax owner here (bone stock 2002 Silverado 2500 HD). Great channel, great content and I love your enthusiasm! I agree with the others. I think the Cummins is going to be blue as well!
Those r common rail rods. I personally never seen those in a 24v. They usually all have the 12v/ 24v fractured rods witch r better then cr rods. I even seen fractured in some 03 cr. I just put rods from a 24v in my 04.5
Love this build series. Keep up the good work. I say the truck will be some sort of blue to make your fleet (wife max and your truck) some MURICA colors. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Truckmaster...I dont comment much. Thanks for the informative videos. Because of you I bought kryptonite upper control arms and lower ball joints. 2015 Sierra 2500(gm weak points). Semper Fi. Keep it up. 👍💯
Olive drab green or whatever its called. Like army color. Since it's private pyle. Maybe even a big star on the hood or side somewhere????? With some black rims.
I wish more people would share videos of motor work because they all post “builds” but the truck is complete and most likely done by someone else. I wanna learn about the motors.
I think what about you turn old red Duramax to Black again because that was a badass color and turn the that Cummins diesel black too and both trucks look badass in the dark
Mine 91.5 dodge was six in a row under the hood when I had a new Hamilton cams head put on a stage two head close to 500,000 miles still had crosshatching the cylinder walls could hardly feel any ridge at all in the Sonder I mean you could barely feel it that’s good Amsoil can do for you anyway but you do you do a nice job hey listen while you’re at it go online and learn how to build which is real simple or waste oil heater you can use an old woodstove and it’s real simple are you go through a lot of used oil I’m sure
Don’t get a cheap after market oil pan!!! Some cheaper pans have a painted or coated interior where the oil sits and the oil breaks down the stuff they put on the pan and it’ll get sucked into your pickup tube and you’ll drop oil pressure
I would definitely reccomend putting rods in the engine if you're shooting for up to 1k horsepower. No sense in putting all the time and money into the engine and not upgrading the rods at that power level
@@GMCJay_lly I agree totally with what you are saying. I just know for me I'd rather spend the extra money and be over built than pushing the top. Would help me sleep better lol
@@GMCJay_lly I just figured if he was throwing that 1000hp number out there, then that's definitely time to start considering the fact that you already have that much money in the build, why not put the last step in there to feel good about it staying together. Like I said, I'd just over build it if it were mine. Either way looking forward to seeing it put together! 👍
what do you think would be a better rebuild project, duramax or a cummins? I prefer duramax but since they aren't in as many trucks I think parts will be harder to find. Cummins do have their pros, but they're just so darn heavy. My goal is 1000 pound-feet of torque and 500-700 hp.
i will have to watch the how to maintain a Duramax. no way you are running 15W-40 oil because even at 25F cold start my LMM makes a lot a noise for a few minutes, so after that it always gets "plugged up" when the temp is 40F and colder even at work.
Love your videos great content please dont paint it destroyer gray i am redoing a 97 extended cab cummins and i am painting it destroyer gray. On the flip side keep up the great work
If it’s too much I live here in Pa, considering you’re getting it sent here, I can come pick it up for you and drop it off and when it gets done for cheaper than your shipping is 😂
Love the vids. My lly head gaskets just went out. I can’t afford to pay someone to do it. If I study your vid for a couple of days you think anyone could do it?
If you're doing the red, white, blue. The screaming skull which it's like 3d with the American flag 😁 that would look bad azz. Look on screen savers you'll see what l am saying.
It was tough to see it due to the camera angle but I almost dropped the head 🤦♂️😂
Should weighed the head 🤣looked heavy for sure lol
Good way to screw your back up ! Ask me how i know!
When you moved that head I was like " Yeah shes heavy lol"
Nope it wasn't hard to see. Ha I was waiting to hear the thing hit the floor. Nice save.

The louder they are, the better they are!😂
I gotta think you’re gonna go with blue for the Cummins cause you’re a true patriot and that would complete the colors of our great flag!!!

Cummins = BLUE

Factory color Patriot blue!

It is Milwaukee just goof brand, like Ford is to Lincoln
I believe you could actually but a truck from the ground up. Wow and working through the cold now that's commitment and a love.
Thanks
Can’t beat a Cummins 🤘🏻🚂
I'm loving this build series, seeing it all torn apart is really cool.

Cummins blue, wifemax white an truckmaster red 🤙💯
Olive Drab body, sitting on a FDE flat dark earth frame with a mix of fde and black suspension and steering components.
Nice one 👍🏻 this Cummins engine is in a really good shape !

Keep a Mopar a Mopar! Choose plum crazy hemi orange or sassy grass green!
I enjoyed your video, I will be waiting for the video assembling back this engine
Those aren't burn marks on the back of the bearings. Those rod bearings looked awesome! 5.9 Cummins is God's chosen engine.
Paint it blue and line them up!! RED WHITE and BLUE 🇺🇸
You gotta lift those rafters in the garage dude . I just had it done at my garage along with the door. What a difference
I’m really considering it
@@TruckMaster I’ll PM you on Instagram my before and after me
You should paint it that dark green, I think it was the best color option for second gens
Blue. That way you have red, white and blue trucks
My cummins when I pulled the head at 288k still had cross hatching and pistons still looked great
Why don’t you run fender liners? I noticed both Duramax’s have them removed still.
I just need to install them 👍
@@TruckMaster ah word. I wasn’t sure, thought maybe it was a winter time thing? Lol. We don’t have a winter in SoCal 😂

The new deep blue! On the new ram!

Clearly you have made me a gas lover after your last duramax video.....I owned 3 and your Cummins video looks like Cummins might be a better motor?
Cummins is a stronger engine but the ram truck isn’t built like a Chevy

Very cool to see the internals on the 5.9
That crank is pretty substantial. It reminded me of one from a 454 BBC.
What are the journal diameters ?
Just checked these on the inter web in comparison. The 5.9 crank journals (rod and mains) are ~ 20% larger than the BBC cranks. Woah

You need Harbor freight's Earthquake 1/2" impact. Now that thing is a beast!
What kind of lift kit and size wheels do you have?
Pro comp 6” with 35’s on 20’s

Harbor freight

Blue for sure merica 🇺🇸

I wait until the glow plug light turns off but I cycle it twice
