As someone who finds XF nibs unpleasant, this is EXCELLENT news. Thank you for making my day!
3:05 "I didn't read the fine print on the listing" got a good chuckle from me.
A very subtle pun
I just got an A1 with a F nib, and it’s a very smooth writer, right out of the box.
DB: Ever since I watched your video on widening the slit on my Decimo, I altered a different pen (Majohn A2) as practice. I simply ran a brass shim through the slot a couple of times. I did not have the correct brass to put two shims in and then pull the tines apart. No matter. Since I 'cleaned' the slot, the A2 has written wonderfully. Even skipping a day or two, it starts immediately. As is usually the case, a simple solution seems to work best. Thanks. Now I need to get up the courage to clean my Desimo's slit.
Good to hear my video helped
@@Doodlebud Your technical videos always give good information. Reviews for moderately priced pens are great also. The expensive ones I just watch for entertainment. I have a very limited budget. Veritas and Good Blue are wonderful inclusions. Small companies making innovative products.
I wonder if they'll do an F version of the A2. The A1 is too heavy to be comfortable for me so I'm wondering if this A1 weighs the same as the original. The finish is really nice.
I had the same experience…I had the pen in hand and I was like “what the hell?” Very pleased that they are doing more nib sizes. 🤞🏼for mediums and broads!
Hopefully a wet broad....😉
@@Doodlebud I love a nice wet broad! Especially if she can cook 🥁
Dooooooodlebud!
Glad to see the larger tip.
Your channel ruined my life in the best kind of way
My condolences and congratulations
I recently bought the white + gold trim color and it's currently my favorite. I had no idea it was an until now! No wonder it's been writing so smoothly. I generally prefer F over EF.
Now if only they would sell the nib on it's own! That way I wouldn't need to get another pen to make the A2 I have work they way I would like!
They do.
Be nice if they offered just the nib unit in .. I have two A1, happily would swap the nib unit from to
It would be. Hopefully at some point but they seem to move pretty slow in this!
I saw the new A1 black with gold trim in 365Days and fell in love. Just received it. Beautiful and very good writing. I will soon order the white one. Thanks for showing us the difference between F and EF
I got the White one and fell in love so I ordered the Black one as well. They're so pretty and write so well 😊
That green used for the kaweco medium looks nice
Same thought! @Doodlebud do you remember what it is? Looking for the perfect green for my green liliput ☺️
Noodler's Gruene Cactus
Yes!
Let’s goooo!
I bought a pilot m nib
Hated it despite being so smooth.
Gave it to my girlfriend. She also preferes the moon man ef steel.
This is one of those times that I prefer steel.
I got one! Picked up the a1 in white and gold and it’s the tiniest change but so pleasant
I wish I could get just the nib unit
I also added a fix for the spring that stops the unit from popping ip
Oh boy, here I go ordering again...
Fine nibs are available in a 2pack or 1 w/a mat now. I just ordered my upgrade for about 8$
Wow! They finally did it!!
Can only imagine whats next! Perhaps....... a proper spring 😗
@@Doodlebud How about broader nibs and naginata nib!
I love the EF nib but knowing there’s a F out there makes me super happy. I might get just the nib if they ever start selling them for my A1!
I'm the opposite I like my nibs broad and very wet.
They've begun selling F nibs separately on their domestic store. I hope they can give the F nib choice on all the Capless models soon, and it will pull the trigger for me to get one.
A1 is a great pen in my opinion, great value.
If Diamine were to ask you to design an ink for them, what would you call it?
Diamine Blue Balls???
@@Doodlebud Oh, Doodlebud!😂 Will writing with this ink cause discomfort?
I was hoping it would give relief!
It would be great even if they offered a medium nib that could be swapped in.
thanks for the update! Thought: with JPY tanking it might be just better to pick up the OG or decimo w/ gold nib from Japan.
1. I particulary appreciate the line-width meaurements, thanks.
2. I wonder why I have any pens smaller than .
Deep pen thoughts indeed
My 1st Pilot Vanishing Point I ordered with a Medium, since that was my customary "go to, " but it was too broad. I ordered a separate innerds in Fine. Much better. Both leaked like sieves. Retired both. Bought an A1 from Majohn/Moonman, also in Fine without Clip. Was OK, but still leaked. Retired that one, too. Now I have no usable Vanishing Points. I am tempted to say "Caveat Emptor."
I tossed my leaky A1 as well. But did serve the purpose of proving to me that I have no use case for a clicky fountain pen.
Cool, ordered it just now! It says 0.5mm on the 365 page btw.
Yup saw that. That's why I decide to measure it. I got 0.4mm on Rhodia. Could be 0.5mm on a different paper
How to dismantle feed from Moonman A2? Mine has very serious flow issues. Even bulb syringe struggles to force water through it! Nib works well if ink reaches it! No one on internet seems to have removed feed to check!
Thanks in advance.
i actually just received my a1 in schoolbus yellow with a fine nib 2 days ago, trying to work through some starting issues but after it starts it writes so nicely, size for mine is about the same as a sailor medium.
How should we improve Majohn fountain pen nibs? Can you make a video on this subject? I really need :)
if they manage to bring out a gold nib at good prices, then 🚀🚀🚀
How can you tell the vintage vs modern Vanishing Point? I got my first VP in 1997 or 1998 and love it!
lol the thing is that it only costs you $16-18 (tax included ) to get a Mojiang A1 in China. Regardless of the nib, its barrel is identical to the Pilot Vanishing Point (even the slot for the nib), which means if you scratch your precious Pilot, you can find a perfect and cheap substitute❤
Hey Doodlebud. Found your content a few days ago when I was checking out reviews for the Majohn A1 to see if it's any good. Well mine arrived yesterday and I instantly fell in love with it. Been clicking it like it was a fidget toy ever since.
One thing I noticed, since I don't own a VP to compare, the push button doesn't go smoothly down like a Parker Jotter. There is like a shelf or a bump that needs a slightly extra effort to push down to fully extend the nib. I don't know if it's just QC on my copy or is it the same on every A1 or VP for that matter. Does any of your A1s have the same feeling?
EDIT: I managed to reduce the bumpy feeling a great deal by removing and rotating the spring till I found the right spot. I also sanded the leading edges of the internal pen where I noticed some scratch marks but I think the spring had most to do with it.
I check out that pen but there is nothing mentioned about Fine nib in the color variations morever they sell extra fine nib except fir fine, will this pen comes with fine nib if i order from that store
This new model (use the link) is a fine. All other versions are XF and as of now thr F nibs are not sold separately. If you read the item description on the Aliexpress posting you'll see it mentions it's a fine nib
Thanks for providing me info I'll order black with golden cap
I really appreciate the attention to details in measure the line width. I actually have a question with which you might be able to help me.
I got my first fountain pen recently, a Lamy Safari with an EF nib. I’ve set my sights on the Kaweco Sport (AL) for my next pen, and I’d debating between EF and F. I’m not unhappy with the Lamy EF, but I think I would prefer just a hair wider.
So my question is, do you happen to know the line widths for the Lamy EF, and the Kaweco EF? (I could already spot the Kaweco F in your video)
I wonder if the F nib is available separately. I went to AliExpress and saw all the pens had clips. I have one with only a roll stop.
I haven't seen the nib or nib units sold on its own. So far its only available with this new batch of colors
I tend to prefer EF nibs on basically every pen, but the A1 is just bad. It’s scratchy, dry, and unreliable. I don’t plan on buying another Majohn anytime soon.
Agreed! I'll stick with pilot for quality control.
As the annoying kid who used to make my ball point click pens "jump" I always liked the idea of these but I really don't like extra fine. I have been keeping an eye out for an E95S. I saw what they are calling Pilot Capless with steel nibs. I'm wondering if they are fake or possibly a Korean version like the steel nib E95S. The price was around $70-80 Cdn. I would consider a steel nib Capless, especially if I could get medium. I will hold out for a new or vintage E95S with a gold nib. And I would put up with this pen in Fine. I have a couple #5 Moonman nibs. They're actually pretty good. P.S. What kind of distance do you get if you turn it upside down, click and "jump"? I know that you tried it....
the "special alloy" (steel nibs) pilot capless are legit, just only sold in japan market and that's why they're a lot cheaper than the gold (since they're steel)
Hooo 🔎📏
New nibs are out...NOW do a video on how to swap them. I've stabbed myself once already.
Could not get my A1 to work so I returned it I think they are garbage!
I'm so hyped by this! I've had the white & gold one in my basket for a couple of weeks but I completely missed that they were listed as 0.5mm nibs! Just need to wait for my next payday 🫤
I still don’t get how anyone can support a company that has stolen, yes stolen, the well-know designs of other, legitimate companies. If you buy one, even for $20, you are supporting those who steal the intellectual property of others.
Well that will force the "original" creators to lower the prices. Let's face it, we already have a problem with expensive pens still making it difficult to afford the hobby. Imitation is not always a bad thing. Reverse engineering a lot of the time removes the flaws the original had. Aside from the point are you one of those people who defend TWSBI, or Kaweco.
YES! Now a medium please, crossing fingers.
Medium, broad and then naginata!
Does ink affect line width?
Yes but paper contributes largely as well
Get to the damn point, how did it write. Next
Any idea how it would fair on printer paper (cheap paper)? I usually the EF majohn because its less likely to be an issue with printer paper but id love to hear your thoughts about this fine nib!
All depends on the paper and the ink you choose. There's cheap paper, and then there's CHEEEEEAAAAAAPPPP paper!
@@Doodlebud haha sounds good! Another q: can we exchange nibs on models? If I just by a fine nib when/if they are available, will I be able to attach it to me EF majohn pen?
So exciting! I have a few Vanishing Points but I also love my A1! As a fan of broader nibs I'm really happy to see this new option. The white or black with gold trim is very tempting.
Morning DB! That new Majohn IS exciting! I like the color AND the Fine nib! Will be keeping an eye out for one!
Love the new colors (just wish the gold/white was more rose gold)
And now if we could just get a medium nib... 🤔
We're getting closer!
@@Doodlebud mhm mhm. I'll probably buy a fine in the interim, too.
Your channel is like the best dessert 🧁 for the geek in me 😊 Just whip out the microscope anytime! Was so awesome so actually SEE the difference up close like this! Thank you!
