What a charming lady. I've used closed captions since I was a child even though I can hear. My parents didn't speak English growing up but they could read it no problem so I was used to having them on all the time. It wasn't until I started watching TV at my friend's homes that I realized I was depending on them because I couldn't always understand what people would say (bad diction, sound, or accents.) To this day, I have a hard time understanding a lot of song lyrics without looking them up. When I started watching anime, my friends would tell me they had to get used to reading the subtitles when it was easy/natural for me. That's when I realized that most people don't use CC. I love them. They're wonderful!
i notice multiple times that Marlee has to get the attention of the interviewer back on her because hes looking at the interpreter instead of at her... how rude is he?! the interpreter is JUST a voiceover for Marlee, he isnt the one saying the words...
+Tiamat Storm I don't think he is trying to be rude. I think he is just unfamiliar with being around a deaf person. When you aren't used to something like this, you tend to default to what you are used to. Hearing people are taught to look in the eyes of who is speaking. Marlee is a professional and I'm sure where she finds it frustrating, she probably doesn't feel disrespected.
Whitney Faye exactly what I always think with those kind of interviews. Most people don’t want a rude reputation to follow them, so I doubt it was purposely. He’s human, and we all forget and make mistakes. and other than that little oops, he doesn’t seem rude to her at all. People are so quick to judge nowadays, it’s actually scary at times.
So the website that she was talking about for the closed captioning services, why didn't they post it in the description a link to that website nor they posted it on the show itself.
How rude for him to turn to her interpreter while he was talking...some hearing people just don't get it.. but, I love how he tapped him..like hey, I'm over here in such a classy way.. love her! I love ASL. Such a beautiful language, and deaf and hard of hearing and coda communities are so wonderful.
I grew up w a deaf cousin and we always had collapsed caption on all the TVs in the family, I couldn’t get use to watching it at friends houses without it
HEY - 6:03 The CC gets EVERYTHING right up until that point and then it says "insane mom can we shop the @$$ crack or something to that" RIGHT AS they're talking about her Oscar/Academy Award !?!!! FIX IT
+Taylor Anstrom Wasn't it an automatic close captioning? Computers are still stupid sometimes; and that's good, they should give this job to people not machines.
kittagp Not sure hon. I think you are right that most t.v. shows are automatically CC'ed with a computer but this is crazy. They need to get a more updated CC. It reminds me of auto-correct when you do voice texts. Mine messes up constantly.
My hearing is fine, but sometimes have to add CC on movies because actors so often fail to annunciate. Marlee is a very talented actress. But, she is also gorgeous.
The British TV networks seem to be good about closed captioning shows online. I've watched videos on BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 players with subtitles. I'm not deaf/HOH; I just find it easier to focus on shows with the captions on.
+Emorkia I think it depends. When it comes to the local and national channels that is correct but you get broadcasters like Sky who don't want to do anything or claim "technical difficulties." I don't know if there are subtitles for Sky's online services but for their added perks of on demand, subtitling is non-existent. The Subtitle It campaign is doing its bit to try and force the government to take the issue seriously but it remains a fight. I do know what you mean about the captions though. My sister watches tv and films with captions (she's profoundly Deaf) and because I've got so used to them there that it is strange for me to not have them on - unless the show is live and then they're turned off because there are too many inaccuracies or there is a timing delay.
+emma poulsen The interpreter is not signing when he talks because he is essentially being Marlee's voice if she were hearing. She is signing and he is saying out loud what she is signing. He is basically her go between for the deaf and hearing world. I very much want to go to sign language school to be an interpreter. Not only is it something I am passionate about...signing is so much fun, you make great money as well. I was in the hospital with a deaf kid when I was a teen and one of his rights as a patient was to have an interpreter with him art all times. I took her to the side to ask about how she got the job and she grew up hearing with deaf parents so she was already fluent in ASL. She told me that on call interpreters for a hospital which is what she was got paid $60.00 an hour starting pay!! So I can help someone doing something I love and make great money. I would love to be personal interpreter.
Most deaf people don't really care for using their voices, especially those in Marlee's generation - those who grew up being forced to talk. She can do it, and she does when she feels it's necessary, but she preferrs not to.
"no sound" um.... you can hear when she is slapping her hands while she is signing in the clip. whoever made that comment is ignorant. deaf families wouldn't have an interpreter in their homes while having a discussion
What a charming lady.

I absolutely LOVE Marlee!! She is amazing and I would be honored to meet her.
Marlee is wonderful! I don't really pay that much attention to the novels, but she's definitely a hero in my eyes and I adore her as a human being
Favorite part when Marlee slaps his arm because he keeps looking back at Jack
He prob didn’t know
xbisoubisoux
He looked away. She subtly put her hand on his arm.
funniest thing is that this video is not captioned
It's a video on youtube. If you had watched this on TV it would've been.
" theres no sound " 😂😂😂😂
hey wesley i didnt know you watched switched at birth u should do a video about it
GAY GAMER BOY I love switched at birthhhhh
SAME!!!! they need to hurry up with the new season
That’s so classic lol. Was that someone in the audience or one of the crew?
The ultimate irony is the poor captioning on this clip.
i notice multiple times that Marlee has to get the attention of the interviewer back on her because hes looking at the interpreter instead of at her... how rude is he?! the interpreter is JUST a voiceover for Marlee, he isnt the one saying the words...
well the interpreter probably confused him when he said he could look at him. he didn't look at him too much.
+Tiamat Storm I don't think he is trying to be rude. I think he is just unfamiliar with being around a deaf person. Most hearing people don't know this.
and the interpreter's skills are sublime
I wish the program tag was either on the side or translucent because it's blocking both Marlee's hands and the clip captions.
So the website that she was talking about for the closed captioning services, why didn't they post it in the description a link to that website nor they posted it on the show itself.
Marlee Marlin will always be my favorite actress.

Yeah he's just not used to it but it's nice that she gently reminds him.
~:~
Sign language is so beautiful
I love how she is talking about how important cc is but this video doesn't even have cc🤔
Yes it has?? maybe not pre-written but the translator speaks so clearly most of it is on point!
vietcongpornsurfers He sure isn’t speaking clearly for deaf or hard of hearing viewers who perhaps don’t know sign. Remember! We can’t HEAR.
Yes it does. Click the CC button on the bottom of the video and you'll have it.
she is great in THE WEST WING!!!!
I took asl and deaf people are very vocal very active and their communities and wonderful people
subtitles? the auto generated subtitles by youtube is a joke.
I grew up w a deaf cousin and we always had collapsed caption on all the TVs in the family, I couldn’t get use to watching it at friends houses without it
HEY - 6:03

+Savage Insight OMG!! I just rewatched that section and looked at it with captions and saw that is said ass crack. Someone did that as a cruel joke.

Found her from the L word! I love her!

ironic that even tho this has closed captioning it's filled with an incredible amount of error
I did not see any closed captioning on this video, what are you taking about
Kaitlyn Cleary if you hit the "CC" button on any (or most) RUclips video, closed captioning will appear.
+mariemakeup101 the automatic version of cc doesnt work its always full of mistakes and faults cuz its automatic
She's 1 of my favorite actors and a beautiful women

Asl is a good sign language to help hearing and deaf so the can talk to each other
Perfect woman, beautiful, charming, ambitious and silent!
Omg that clip was so awkward, silent, and hilarious
Hey I have a question.. Do you think sign language is an art form?
6:40 She didn't looking at him at all. LOL
She's so damn charming
i want to know when switch at birth new season come out
The final season will premiere at the end of this month.

demon45ize This was over a year ago. It's already come and gone.
Sooo.....
FYI She played the March Hare's girlfriend April on Adventures in Wonderland
Funny cause this video is not captioned
why does this guy keep looking at the interpreter and why is the interpreter talking to him AND not even signing what hes saying ???
where is Charlie puth please?!?!!
😆😉😢😆😆
