Great pod per usual guys - hopefully going to catch y'all sometime this weekend 👌🏼
I wish that the UPA was on top of these "trampoline effect engineered" paddles like they are on Daescu's paddle substance. But then again we know it's all about the $$$.
I am a sports medicine physician and we have been using cold laser for years with great results. We even use it in patients post surgically. The unit you are talking about is a class I cold laser. We use class IV which gets even better and faster results!
Thanks for sharing. Do you have specific product recommendations for tennis elbow?
My quick Google search came up with this NIH (US Government, not hucksters) result, affirming the benefit of Class 4 lasers. The higher intensity of Class 4 allows the impact to go deeper into the tissue. These lasers appear pricey though, beginning a little under $10K.
CONCLUSIONS
Our results show a dose-response effect of class 4 laser therapy in a human clinical model, similar to what has been observed in the animal model. Specifically, a 3-W dose, along with a 50% duty cycle, applied to the biceps brachii proved to be the most beneficial protocol for increasing FBF. This suggests that a properly designed laser treatment protocol with appropriate dosing guidelines is a viable therapy to increase limb blood flow. Laser therapy's ability to increase blood flow in a dose-response manner is therefore an effective, noninvasive treatment modality to improve blood flow and may promote tissue healing in the clinical setting. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3418129/
Good luck at the tournament both of you!
I have the Rojo 900 3" RLT panel, it's awesome, along with a Desert Plunge Cold Plunge, also an IR Sauna. As we get older, recover is huge.
Great podcast guys!! Thanks for the update on the Kineon plus. I may pull the trigger on getting one now.
Also, your numbers on the performance of the Pikkl Hurricane Pro look great. I just ordered one from Pickleball Central so I can try it out for 30 days, it looks like a solid wide body paddle 👍
I bought the Kineon and for my feet I’ve been using a loose sock and sticking it in there. It works really well.
Frankenstein Paddle Rules: Must be within the existing paddle dimensions and must have a solid face where the ball strikes the paddle (no strings or drilled holes). That’s it. GO CRAZY.
Most intelligent pickleball pod cast in the game.
Great episode! Also just found your drum channel 👌
Played the Gamma CHUCK today. I liked it . We'll see when it gets hot how it plays.
I've played the SKIN from PIKKL and put it on my old Gearbox G7 that is glass smooth. Spin is fine not anything to rave about. I'm hoping a "clear" sheet comes out to use on paddles and not change the looks of the graphics.
I would like to see the spin rules get more relaxed.
Thanks for your answer! Hoping maybe we’d see another “tech of the week” for something like the SLYCE WEIGHTED SPEEDCAP
Good idea! I've been meaning to reach out to them
Great as always, like many I have knee pain after 60 years of tennis. What area of your knee has the Kineon helped? Mine is lower outside left knee. Thanks
I have patellar cartilage damage in my right knee. So just behind the kneecap
Great video. There are more and more new technologies recently.
Great video, as usual John & Will!! I guess no update yet on the Joola Gen 3 ban?? I have the new Perseus, but at this point am reluctant to play with it until we know the status. Thx! 🥊🙌
Eddie!
Or Will’s Dad?? 😉🤣
I notice Gryp has pre orders for their balance 2 paddle which I think you have tried but, the specs on their site show it as elongated 16.5” in length not a widebody. Do you know if the one you tried more recently that you liked is same /similar to the one currently up for pre sale?
Hmm, either they changed the shape, or it's a typo on their website. Mine measures 16 inches long by 8 inches wide, with a 5.5-inch handle. I imagine it's just a typo, because the photo looks the same as mine
Was the PIKKL data on your spreadsheet stock or with the skins layered to the surface? Thanks!
Y’all have the Shogun here in the background, but have you seen the ProStar? That paddle looks amazing and they use the titanium carbon fiber weave as well! They also use a mix of foam and PP core. Would love to hear your thoughts.
I haven't heard of the ProStar titanium paddle. Do you have a link?
@@johnkewpickleball Nexus Pickleball USA, RUclips won’t let me link on here it seems. Super interesting paddle would love to hear your thoughts.
Yay and awwwww, Eddie is wearing a Melin ball cap, just like Pickleball Will!
Have you heard of Komodo Pickleball with their kevlar paddle named the "katana"? I know they are associated with Andre Agassi and some former pro tennis players. Love the content. Thanks guys
@johnkew can you please review the new wilson blaze pro tour?? Wanna see how it stacks up against the other paddles in your database!
I play tennis, badminton and ping pong on a recreational level. every 6 months or so I will change the strings on my tennis and badminton racquet when their tensions become loose. For my ping pong paddle, when the rubber becomes worn out or stiff. However, how about pickleball paddles? How soon should I change the paddle? Unlike tennis, badminton or ping pong, where I just have to change the strings or rubber, for pickleball, I have to get a new paddle. The pickleball paddles are not cheap either, from $100 to $250. If we have to continuously change the paddles every 8 months to a 1 year, to play pickleball is more costly than playing the other racquet sports. It is a huge turn off for me to continuously play pickleball where I can play other sports which is more economically affordable in the long run.
Is there any statistics or experiments been done on pickleball paddles on how they perform in the long run? Same twist rate, pop etc?
Pickleball involves more abrasive wear than other racquet sports, and with the equipment regulations being as they are (paddle has to be stiff and not springy), the first thing to break down on a paddle will be the grit. That's why replaceable skins are a great idea. I think once they improve their formula, the PIKKL skins will be a big hit
According to your database, the Hurricane 14mm has the closest specs to the AB gen 3 that I’m retiring. I hope i like it.
Try using hairspray on these Frankenstein paddles I heard that from ref during a tournament
I enjoyed the podcast. Today, I heard that PPA is not allowing players to use the Joola Gen 3 paddles. John, what third paddle will you be bringing? Thank you and good luck John and Eddie.
Ha, yup, I'll be leaving the CJ at home on this trip. Right now, I have two Shapeshifters (one weighted a little heavier), and a J2K in the bag
Any updates on the ban on Joola Gen 3 paddles? has it been lifted?
Not yet - PPA just announced the Gen-3's are not allowed at the next Dallas event
what would you recommend as the ultimate control paddle?
The Volair Mach 2 Forza is a top contender
Have you seen these new Thompson paddles yet?
There is a developmental material called gecko skin that works like an adhesive but it uses friction to lock to surfaces. It is very very very strong and offers TON of grip but only works directionally. I’d love to see how it would work on a paddle.
I think it is expensive and difficult to obtain but I am not sure. It was developed at a university
Fascinating. This Geckskin material you're talking about is really cool
@@johnkewpickleball It’s a crazy material haha. Glad you found it interesting
Did you like the hurricane pro 14 or 16 better? Great video
For reference, I’m around the 4-4.25 level and currently play with a 16 double black diamond, looking for all court with good pop. Which one would help me improve the best as a player?
As funny as the maple syrup/pouring on sap analogy is funny, i think that the pine tar being use was something like a "roll on" pine tar which is used for baseball bats (sort of works like deodorant). It would easy to apply to a paddle face in that way.
From what i read, he never played with the paddle. It was a paddle that was used in practise.
nice try Andrei
I mean, how is this any different that someone submitting 30 paddles (before a match) and them all failing…they don’t play with them in a match… but eventually find one that’s able to be played with? How is this scenario any different???This whole story doesn’t add up.
They caught it before he used it in that tournament but he could have used it in previous tournaments.
@@NOT_A_TOP_FAN the difference is that paddle quality control is known to be trash--but that's on the paddle brand. Daescu put a foreign substance on the paddle face--that is a premeditated act to gain an advantage that's squarely on Andre. i'm a big fan of the guy, but i'm struggling to imagine how he can explain this away
@@bicyclethief I’m struggling to explain how on earth anyone with even just a bit of common sense would spread a sticky substance onto a paddle and then turn it in for testing..,,lol makes zero sense
The paddle didn't pass testing, just like thousands of other paddles have. Why is the reason for it not passing all of a sudden a reason for excessive punishment?
Leverage for signing a contract?
Punishment for pickling the Jon's bros?
Punishment for not using a Joola or Selkirk? Proton is not on their new advisory board...
John, u mentioned skateboard grit. Put pizza grip on a paddle. That stuff was real gnarly
Are those the ones that look like actual pizza slices? I haven't tried them yet
@@johnkewpickleball not exactly. It’s an old school skateboard thing. The grit on it could cut u and did a number on the sole s of the shoes.
Hurricane Tyra BLACK
Yep, my bad...
Easiest paddle on arm is CLiffs! Why does noone review it?
Eddie comments that the Kineon is selling for $350 - $375. I can't find it for this price.
Yeah, I think that sale must have ended
Did Daescu actually use pine tar??? Seems messy and obvious since it would totally discolor the face. Seems more likely he would use a Tourna Tack Rag (or similar) with resin on them of the paddle face. Would certainly add advantage and would be easy to hide in plain sight.
Fine 50k. They are basically telling him to go play in another league. Zane said he made 900 for silver medal, I highly doubt he will come back with that crazy fine. With the paddle that had an altered paddle face, he said that Daescu applied it on a paddle for his training team so it could mimic the pros elite spin. It was never meant to be used for play, but it was meant for his training partners
Very interesting, and if the training story is true, it's a huge story that we haven't heard yet. Where did you get the info?
@@johnkewpickleball From the Dink Pickleball article titled: "Exclusive Details Behind Andrei Daescu's $50k Fine and Suspension for Illegal Substance on Paddle by Erik Tice"
This is the quote from the article/newsletter:
"The Dink has learned that essentially Daescu got unlucky. The paddle was dropped off and tested and it did have an illegal substance on it. The paddle was one of many he had at the time and it was dropped off for testing by someone mistakenly. It was never intended to be used in competition. The paddle is used in training by Daescu and his team to help his hitting partners simulate an elite-level player across from him."
If Tyra can't find enough grit or spin on the peel ply, perhaps they can add some pinetar... Too early??? LOL
NOT FUNNY!
There looks to be brown on ADs paddle ... on his Insta.
Andre is a former Romanian Tennis Player
John, do you drink soft drinks? If so, stop drinking those for a few months and see if all of that inflammation and pain goes away.
No soft drinks. I eat pretty clean overall
Understood. The red light therapy seems interesting. I have a lot of joint and muscle pain. Ice tea also affects my joints for some reason.
@@johnkewpickleballgluten or any other allergies? If you haven’t tested for allergies you might be surprised.
The pickle skin paddle will not come with a ready to play peel ply face, the face will only play with the skin only!
Don't we still have a problem with the core? I think the core will eventually fails.
Make a wills dad T shirt!
Haha, that might be our first venture into merchandise...
it’s Tyra hurricane BLACK not BANKS,
Geeze, I never thought I would make that mistake
To his credit he admitted to a lie after he was caught???
lol ikr, at first it was a leaked Gatorade bottle. Honestly he should be banned for a year to set a precedent.
I find it laughable how companies are trying to tinker with the formula for a wiffle ball then be surprised when it still doesn't change anything.
All the balls play different so it’s a thing.
In softball, bats are inspected before the game and any bats discovered to be illegal are removed from the dugout without receiving any penalty...why would you want to penalize someone who believed their paddle would pass the tournament inspections...
Is it not quite clear he was intentionally modifying his paddle against the rules? He even admitted it. This doesn’t seem like a proper analogy.
