I got for Christmas the year it came out and it's still one of my favorite consoles. I just have so many fun memories like playing with family, or sitting and looking at the dumb stuff a miiverse. The gamepad dying every few seconds was a little annoying, but I still love that thing. It should've sold more.
What I loved about the Wii U was for games like Nintendo Land and Game and Wario, it allowed you to have special gameplay specifically for the gamepad player and allow 5 players at the same time for many titles.
I also own a Wii U, it's a very good console! There are amazing games, has retrocompativility, has an epic virtual console, has free online, has good online...etc.
I got in way back in 2015 for Christmas, came with skylanders stuff and Nintendo land ofc. My second one sadly barely works anymore so I've decided to get a new console unit

This was in 2019 btw. My mom got a Wii U with the Game Pad, a Pro Controller, Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros. 4, some Batman game, and the wires and stuff for only $50! And it was in great condition! She didn't even realize how great of a deal that was 🤣!
The problem is most of its hard hitting games have been ported to switch. And you probably already have a Wii already. If you don’t have a Wii, it’s like $40 bucks
Fun Fact: Kerbal Space Program was actually planned for the Wii U, and likely would have used the gamepad for VAB interface and flight planning, while the TV would be used for the flight screen.
I bought a new one recently due to the SD Card Slot being broken and I couldn't homebrew it. After I got the new console I can play Gamecube, Wii, And Wii U all natively with NO emulation. Meaning I can play the games at full speed without any emulation hiccups (which is always better). And WITH emulation you can play so many more old games. Not to mention the closure of the shop isn't even a problem when you can install WUP Packages. Honestly totally would recommend the console if you're some homebrew nerd and love retro Nintendo games.
I remember my parents got me and my sister the legend of Zelda edition Wii U for Christmas a long time ago. Still have it and am currently replaying wind waker great console all in all
I mean the game is a dual screen/5 player Assymetrical tech demo. A good Nintendo IP celebration party game too (I do enjoy it even for single player and not having experienced the multiplayer much) but still a tech demo to prove the Wii U features. They could rework it but even still it wouldn't be the same/lose appeal of what made it unique and the point of Nintendo Land. If they changed it to make Switches work the way the Wii U does or a single screen/download play multiplayer game and besides that the game didn't do much for sales so I don't think they see a need to bring it back. Otherwise if they reworked it it could be a generic party game if single screen even besides the theming being great the gameplay would be worse and that would be terrible.
tbh i never completely understood why people hate the wiiu i have one and i love playing on it now and then. i love mario party 10, captain toad, splatoon, mario kart, and the games that are available to it. and it also introduced me to minecraft on a console! so many memories and that minecraft acc and the games 😄
