      Coming soon!
      I already have bits and pieces of it from the development days on my channel.
      My favorite is Votrax Beat-Box.

    I have a Sweet Talker board with this very chip in it, that has not seen the light of day since the early 80’s. Had it running from my CPM system with basic. Just relocated this little bit of history the other day. I have not done anything yet as I need to rebuild a system to run it (needs a parallel port and just the basics to get running again [DOS w/Quick Basic]). A future project. All the old software is on 8” disks, somewhere.

      I sold a Micro Mint Sweet Talker on eBay about a year ago. Sad to see it go - but it helped fund this project. If you are interested, I have Votrax tester boards available on ebay. It will get you up and running without needing to pull out all that old equipment.

      This board is build into a Radio Shack speaker, I do want to rebuild up a DOS system for other projects.
      Also, have an Altair 8800 I am restoring, with a few S-100 boards to around out the system. Now, old vintage floppy drives will be the next issue to work out, when I am ready for them.
      Some of the very old issue I will have to contend with, the North Star floppy system (5 1/4" floppies), CPM (8' floppies). I have a collection old freeware software in the North Stare format.
      The 5 1/4" floppies may not be an insurmountable issue, but the 8" floppies will, as I have no floppy drive controller any more.
      Did look at your tester, but still need a system to run the Sweet Talker board.

      Well for one: the orginal Votrax there are two unsued non-connected pins. They are now used by an I2C port which gives you access to all the internals.
      Two: The internals are now a fully configurable modular synth that just so happens to be able to emulate the Votrax.
      Take a look at the sales page on eBay. You will see some screen shots of different configurations.

    While it is absolutely possible to hand solder these QFP chips. I've done it many times. Solder paste applied with a stencil is the best method by far.

      More power to you! I tried and gave up. In hindsight, I should have ordered the stencil with the board and saved the additional shipping cost.

    Ooooo neat! I may have a problem with the chip in my Heathkit Hero 1 robot, nice to know there is a replacement option!

      @ScottSavageTechnoScavenger  7 дней назад

      If you are wondering about the chip in your Hero, I sell a votrax tester on ebay.
      Just search for "Votrax" - you will find it.

    To be fair the originals size is mostly the package as well, the actual chip inside isn't that big.

    • @ScottSavageTechnoScavenger
      @ScottSavageTechnoScavenger  7 дней назад

      Yeah. However ... there are two unused pins on that 22-pin package. They could have used a standard 20-pin package if the die was small enough. Would have saved everone the hassle of finding an obscure 22-pin socket.
      By the way - those two unused pins are now used for I2C. :)

    This chip is just for Q-Bert, or did other vintage games use the chip too?

    • @ScottSavageTechnoScavenger

      I listed a few in my Q*bert Revealed video. but off the top of my head ...
      Black Hole PinBall.
