  • Managing patient expectations in Dentistry - there are some MAJOR lessons we can learn from facial aesthetics practitioners.
We're diving into a conversation with Dr. Katherine Bell that's really going to open your eyes about communication. Despite beauty being subjective, we find a lot of similarities in how we talk to and get consent from patients, whether it's for facial aesthetics or dental procedures
So, even if facial aesthetics isn't your cup of tea, think of this episode as a deep dive into communication and consent. Plus, it's Documentation Month on Protrusive Podcast, and this episode is just the beginning!
Protrusive Dental Pearl: Tailoring consent to each patient involves discussing only the risks that matter to them, using standard forms for GUIDANCE, not for completeness. It's about clearly explaining how we'll minimize these risks, ensuring the patient feels secure and informed about the precautions taken. For example ‘Mrs Smith, your tooth is very badly broken down and this can be a very tricky extraction. The way we are going to make it easier is by carefully dividing the tooth in to 3 roots’

Hello Doctor I was watching your video with the German doctor regarding full Pulpotomy I am thinking I was to go down this route. I do not want an RCT at all. He said if the Pulpotomy still bleeds and looks like a root canal but the patient doesn't want it that is still fine fill it with pellets? What is the term for that? What should I be asking my dentist? I need to making another appointment and consultation with dentists who might go down this rabbit hole with me. My first doctor said she just didn't feel comfortable doing it. So after money for the x-ray and consult and camera pics they sent me on my way nothing done except to put me on antibiotics. I do not have puss or obvious root infection the infection is at the top and in the cavity. In a last ditch effort to save this tooth from a RCT the pellets might work well as the tooth would be dead anyway after correct? I was considering gentlewave RCT if the full pulpotomy was not sufficient BUT if the "pellets" the doctor was referring would work better that would be great. If I go that route what is the viability of the tooth?

Hi I'm so sorry but my policy is that I do not give clinical advice to patients over RUclips. I Wish you the best

@@misssilencedogood5968I think he meant “cotton pellets” which help stop bleeding. Uncontrollable bleeding past 5 minutes indicates that a RCT is required
