Wow! Very interesting. I've never known anything about modular homes but 12 minutes into your video I knew I would not build one! Your home is beautiful and your story is amazing!🥰
Joe, this was an invaluable discussion concerning building a modular home. Wow, what a process. Thank you for taking the time to sit down and lay out the pros and cons. This is so helpful for those entertaining such a build. Thank you!
Hope it can help anyone. I'm sure the process may have changed slightly as well as who your builder is, but bottom line is, it's way more of a process than anyone thinks.
This is such an informational video, that could be very helpful for someone today! But I would never have thought your home was a modular home! I have seen some online for sale and the walls look like a mobile home wall, with the strips on them dividing pieces. Yours is done so well, and it sounds like you have done a lot of modifications to it! Your home is beautiful and looks just as good as a regular built home!
My Dad had a construction company and built homes for over 30 years. They built hundreds of homes. So I grew up with knowing about the construction process. Hearing about modular homes was fascinating. Thanks for sharing! Would Love to see some of the “before” pictures.
This was so interesting! I would have never know your house was a modular. I love all the changes you made architecturally. My husband and I bought a two piece modular in 1979. We moved it on our land in late October. The tractor trailer got stuck attached to the house. They sent for a wrecker to pull it out. It got stuck too. My dad got his John Deere Tractor and pulled them all out. True story. We had a lot of issues too. One of the pros I feel in my home was bigger rooms than a stick built house and no wasted space.
Wow, all these years, I never knew your house was a modular…..never realized all the extra costs you had to incur for a modular!! The results are beautiful, it’s all behind you now, relax & enjoy♥️♥️
When we built our house in 2008 we also looked at modular and stick built. We went with stick built and feel like we made the right choice 16 years later. No matter how it got there your home is absolutely beautiful ❤
Beautiful home with an amazing process! The changes you made afterwards were all wisely thought out and beautifully executed. The two of you made it through that stressful time and you must have some good chuckles reminiscing!
This is very interesting! Our house is a modular home and I never fully understood what that was. We did not build it. Ours was built in 1973 and was done, I believe, as cheaply as it could have been. We bought it in 1987 and have been slowly making upgrades and changes. Your home is gorgeous. Thank you for doing this video. Very informative!
You did a great job explaining about your house, especially explaining the pros and cons. Your house is absolutely gorgeous and I would have never guessed it was not stick built. You must have flipped out when you found out about all of the extras you had to pay like the roof, foundation, electrical, plumbing, and everything else. I've built many houses over the years, and it's one of the most stressful things a person will go through in life. Thank God my wife was a real trooper through all of that. Thanks so much for sharing this amazing, and interesting story with us.
I have passed several modular homes go up , in Summit & Madison on my way to work , the process went so smoothly to my eye . I would have lost it if l went through the process ( or lack of process ) that you both did . But look how beautiful your home is today .
Hi Joe! I had to gasp at your experience of buying a modular home! Definitely a "buyer beware" purchase!! I think there were more cons than pros on this deal! Your info is certainly valuable for those that want to go that route. If modular homes are the same as "manufactured homes," getting homeowners insurance has been proven to be a nightmare for those type of homes here in the Northwest. With that being said, you still have a great looking home, and your added improvements are complimentary to your decorating skills!
Joe and MaryAnn, your home is beautiful! I had no idea it was a modular. Sounds like a lot of headaches. We have had 3 homes built …it can also be a headache but a fun stressful one (if that makes sense). I love designing, picking out everything and making a home to fit your family’s current needs. We no longer live in any of them but purchased a townhouse in our older years (my only regret is while downsizing we should have bought a one story one rather than one with a second floor). Fortunately our bedroom, 2 baths, laundry, kitchen, study, living room, etc are all located on the first floor. Thanks for all the info hopefully it will help many others.
Thank you, Joe for the great information on a modular home. All seems so complicated and I don't know if I would buy one either. I am sure, though, there are pros and cons. Plus your house is beautuful!!
Very interesting video, I know this will help many people considering to build a modular home. I never knew all the unexpected costs associated with building one! Your home is beautiful, and I would have never thought it was modular, it looks like a custom built home, I love all the changes you have made to it also.
Very helpful! I'm in the process of house-hunting in a move to a different city a few hours away from my current home. I've gone back and forth about building a house or buying one already built. All of the homes I've bought over the years have been already built and I think I'm going to continue that trend. The headaches that come with building any type of house just do not sound appealing to me at all and you've just reinforced that thought. Thanks for sharing your experiences. P.S. I know you've added different touches to your home over the years (i.e., moulding, trim, etc.) but I think your home is beautiful.
Great video! You were great explaining the process step by step. Who would have ever thought things like a roof or front door would be extra?! It's stick built for me all the way, even though you have a beautiful home!!
Wow Joe!! Great discussion. I’m sure this will help someone. I would think that today, it would be even more expensive given the cost of everything. Hope your day is going good.🕊️
This is great information. Sorry you ran into so many unexpected problems. They should have explained all the other plans that needed to be done. But you have created a beautiful home. Thanks for sharing.
excellent advice and a very interesting video. I enjoyed seeing how the boxes fit as you toured your home. It does seem very solid and beautifully built. If only they told people up front about all the "extras"....haha. a roof, that's handy. At least then you would know the true cost. I really like the modifications you've made, I like the openness of it. Thanks, this was very helpful.
I know it must have been a stressful time for you and Mary Ann, But regardless of the set backs, I think you still have a beautiful home to be very proud of. I think it is amazing and lovely and you've made it a home that works great for you. Thank you for sharing. Do you think you guys will ever move or downsize in the future? I love watching your channel.
Good morning Joe, wonderful video, I really enjoyed it, I never would have thought of all those extra cost, amazing. I was so surprised to hear about all your damage from super storm Sandy. Thanks for sharing your “adventure” of building a modular home. Actually , I was unaware this could be done for a private residence. It’s a great home. Would I do it???? No. It’s hard enough building any new home . Glad you are enjoying your home and love your decorations!
I would think production insurance of some sort and money in a trusteeship for upon delivery. For what is work I have always admired you home and its ambiance .
I am floored by what you’re saying. OMG based on this, I would never build a modular house. That is crazy and I’m sure you were thinking what the heck did we get ourselves into? Wow. Thank goodness that’s over with!

@@LifeWithMaryAnnJoe Never heard of that type of heating, its good you have gas, as i am.all electric and prefer gas, but where i live in an over 60's complex of 10 apartments your not allowed gas, and its a small.place but when its cold the monthly bill is high. Everything is expensive here in the uk, and believe prices have rocketed in the US also since i was last there in 2017 have been to jersey twice and love it, have been to the shore, and prefer it to NYC , but that is ok to visit busy busy prefer it quieter, horses for courses i say, but i.m pleased i got the chance to look around NYC.
This is a very informative video. Thank you for sharing your story. We have built two stick built homes and learned a lot from the first one so we were better educated on the second. Both were good experiences, but there are so many decisions and costs that people don’t realize.
Joe, this is very interesting. I didn't know anything about modular homes and certainly learned a lot from this video. As always, thank you for sharing. ❤
Thank you very much Joe for sharing that I never knew you went through so much but you have a beautiful home can I blame you for not wanting to do it again do you have a beautiful home even though it cost you more money I hope you and Marianne
What a great video and story. I had no idea this was even a thing. I don't know if I could have dealt with all of that. You guys are troopers! In the end you have a beautiful home but what a headache it must have been to get there. Thanks for sharing this information! Have a great weekend!
Very interesting, Joe, I would never have guessed your home was a modular. Was it built by the Amish in Lancaster, PA? I know there are many visible along the roads in that area. Thanks for sharing.
Good morning Joe! I had no idea that your house was built that way ! Thats really interesting! I just assumed that it was stick built . This was a good video ! Lots of good and useful information! I'm glad that you and Maryann survived through that process wow ! That way of building just would be to stressful for me to handle I think too many things that you have take care of ! And to coordinate it all ! Yeah ! I don't think so ! Thanks for sharing this ! Have a great day 😊!!!
What an expensive nightmare. These crooks protected themselves with bankruptcy. My son’s brother-in-law, builds modular homes, but they are all complete, ready to move in. He’s in Northern California. They are very nice.
That is such a shame. You just cannot trust anyone anymore. After hearing this I would just have it build. I’m sure there are challenges with building from the ground up too. Your home did end up beautiful so at least you have that to fall back on.
I would have never guessed your house was a modular home. It just has so much character and looks like it has 100 or more years of history. I mean that in the best way possible. Character and history are good things. To me, anyway.
Thank you that is a big compliment. I guess it's because I've done so much in terms of installing crown moldings throughout as well as other woodwork and some architectural highlights. Thanks again!
All of this should have been coordinated by the builder. Who built your home in the factory? Who was the manufacturer because I will never buy from them.
Wow! Very interesting. I've never known anything about modular homes but 12 minutes into your video I knew I would not build one! Your home is beautiful and your story is amazing!🥰

Wow, i would have never guessed that your home was a modular home. Your home is beautiful.
Thank you so much! It was kind of nightmarish as I was rehashing it for the video. I haven't thought about it in a long time.
My Dad had a construction company and built homes for over 30 years. They built hundreds of homes. So I grew up with knowing about the construction process. Hearing about modular homes was fascinating. Thanks for sharing! Would Love to see some of the “before” pictures.
I'll look to see. We have it all on VHS but who has a VCR nowadays!
This was so interesting! I would have never know your house was a modular. I love all the changes you made architecturally. My husband and I bought a two piece modular in 1979. Yes primary suite on first floor is helpful for us mature folk. Abd you're right building is a double edge sword for sure
Thank you, Joe for the great information on a modular home. All seems so complicated and I don't know if I would buy one either. I am sure, though, there are pros and cons. Plus your house is beautuful!!
Wow Joe your home is lovely. But it really seemed liked a huge hassle. I hope you were happy with your home now.
It was a major hassle. We've changed so much of it, but now I'm this much older and more knowledgeable..WOW are there things I'd change!
Very interesting video, I know this will help many people considering to build a modular home. I never knew all the unexpected costs associated with building one! I bet you're right for sure
Thank you for sharing this helpful information .
This is great information. Sorry you ran into so many unexpected problems. They should have explained all the other plans that needed to be done. But you have created a beautiful home. Thanks for sharing.
They wanted a sale so flim flam was in their agenda
Joe, this was very interesting and what a trial with the builder’s bankruptcy.
All I can say is uuuuggghhh...lol
excellent advice and a very interesting video. I enjoyed seeing how the boxes fit as you toured your home. It does seem very solid and beautifully built. In any building, much research and many questions is the way to go! We'd be way more savvy now, for sure!
Always a possibility. Id like more land, but MaryAnn is tied to this area..but not me.
WOW, that was so interesting. I've never known anybody who personally had that done. There's a lot to consider. 🏡🙏🏻🤔👏🏻
Thanks for visiting much appreciated
Good morning Joe, wonderful video, I really enjoyed it, I never would have thought of all those extra cost, amazing.
I was so surprised to hear about all your damage from super storm Sandy.
We had some damage here , but nothing like 3 feet of water in the house.
I would love to see a video on that, do you have pictures?
Just so hard to believe because your home is stunning.
Thanks for sharing, love and hugs ❤️❤️
Thanks for stopping by. Yes we were devastating. Lost three cars, so much damage nit only here but shore as well. Nightmare.
Thank you!!
Wow! Very eye opening and full of important questions to be ask!! I enjoyed this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was very interesting..lol even my spouse who was walking by when the video started sat down and watched the whole video
Lol..thank you! Tell him too!
Just Wow! I can only Imagine the stress you and Maryanne went thru !!
Oh boy...
Holy Cheeseballs! I have bought and sold houses - ones that were already made. Learned ALOT here! and so I have shared.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your “adventure” of building a modular home. Actually , I was unaware this could be done for a private residence. It’s a great home. Would I do it???? No. It’s hard enough building any new home . Glad you are enjoying your home and love your decorations!
Thanks so much
I would think production insurance of some sort and money in a trusteeship for upon delivery. For what is work I have always admired you home and its ambiance .
Joe, great video and thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
Thanks, you too!
Hi Joe 🙋♀️ Great information, thanks for sharing ❤️😊
Thanks for watching!
I am floored by what you’re saying. OMG based on this, I would never build a modular house. That is crazy and I’m sure you were thinking what the heck did we get ourselves into? Wow. Thank goodness that’s over with!
I blocked a lot out because now I'm remembering even more garbage that went on ugh
Joe, Mama Mia we have had 2 custom built stick homes built, and I thought deciding on the grout color for the tile, I was like it comes in colors. This was a fascinating and helpful video. I had no idea what went into building a modular home and I am with you no never again too many unknowns. With a stick house you can be on site. Your home is absolutely gorgeous, I love the architecture and detail. The one bonus is the big attic(to store decor). Thanks for sharing this experience love & hugs
Lol grout colors! Yes it's every detail!!!!! Xoxoxo
Wow that is amazing. Do not believe that I could deal with all that. Wow, wow
I blocked a lot out, talking about it brought a lot back.
Wow, that's a lot. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow Joe, this was interesting. I had no idea it was a modular home. It's beautiful and I absolutely love your attic space. Building any house is a pain in the rump. Yes and the spouse conflicts can get pretty bad. We built our house in 91-92 and everyone here jokes , if your marriage can survive a house build you can weather anything. Thanks for sharing.
You got that 100 percent right! Thanks!!!
WOW! Love the story Joe, and, you did such a good job of adding the pics to go along w/the narrative! Just wondering, did, any of the other houses in your neighborhood go the modular route? I love the house and love the upgrades yo did. This project was not for the weak of heart. I know it tested all your fortitude & sanity, but, you pressed on to achieve your goal. Our house is 90 yrs. old, had no special qualities, but, we installed, a new kitchen, stained & leaded glass windows, a pair of built- in- leaded glass bookcases form a 1924 house, old salvaged doors, plus added 650 sq. ft.. And we have a light switch that is hooked up to nothing, also. LOL! The house had a previous addition before our addition. Tks for sharing! You have a one of a kind house!
Your house sounds amazing! And no no one else had a modular house built here..now at the shore that's a different story, I see them everywhere!
Thank you. Your home is gorgeous.
Thank you so much!
Very good information!! I would not do a modular for the reasons you stated unless you would move in with us and make my home as beautiful as yours!!!
Lolol
thanks Joe

I wouldn't again either

Thank you same to you!
Interesting video and very informative Joe. I was nervous just listening what you went through lol!😮

Yikes 😳 no way Jose’ - glad you ended up with such a good looking house
Lol! Thank you so much
We had our house built on site a lot of problems too !!!
I'm sure..it's everywhere
Great information Joe.
Glad it was helpful!
One question did it end up costing more building it. I also wonder how a modular house stands up when a tornado rips through.
Cost wise it ended up about the same. Tornadoes? Thank God we don't have many of those in NJ...I don't think k much holds up against those though...
I wouldn't have known you have a modular home. My brother in law had one built 20 years ago and doesn't look as nice as yours
Yes thank you, some of them are extremely plain and boxy. We worked hard to try to disguise ot.it
Joe is your home just you and Maryann now?
Yes the two of us.
Was it cheaper to buy modular or was it about the same to build a stick house. In final cost how much did you really save by buying modular.
All said and done it was about the same money wise and I think a bit more frustrating. But building any way and anyhow is very frustrating.
I hope you had Wine on hand lol!
Lol
😮😮
All of this should have been coordinated by the builder. Who built your home in the factory? Who was the manufacturer because I will never buy from them.
Yes thorough research nowadays with Google easier, back then wasn't so easy
Wow! That stressed me out listening to you! At least, after that, you ended up with a beautiful home😅
It sounds like they dripped information on you. So many times this happens. Your home is beautiful but it sounds like it was a nightmare.
Yes it was
Modulars are built way stronger than stick. You're not picking a stick built house up withy a crane. I'd never buy stick, ever.
No I don't suppose you could pick it up.
What an awful experience. 😮
It was very trying
