    If you have tried to take X Y Z data and graph it three dimensionally inside of Microsoft Excel you know that Excel’s graphing capabilities are quite limited. With XYZ Mesh you can convert and copy your data directly into Excel’s native format of MESH, Surface/Wireline Graph or 3D Line/Scatter Plot and even export them directly into Microsoft Excel and CAD. XYZ Mesh will also preview 3D MESH Wireline Graphs, Scatter Charts and 3D Line Graphs all within itself.
    Previously XYZ Mesh was only used for converting X Y Z data into MESH. With the latest version that has all changed. Version 4.1 can convert X Y Z into MESH, X Y Z into 3D Scatter Plots, Graph 3D MESH data, gather X Y Z data from MESH, curve MESH data and much more!
    The latest version also comes with the ability to export all converted data directly into Microsoft Excel and your favorite CAD DXF viewer. When exporting documents into Microsoft Excel there is a built-in option for customizing exports with information about the data, client and even your business. A single click can generate custom Surface Plots, Wireline Plots, Surface Contours, Wireline Contours and 3D Line Graphs inside of Microsoft Excel using only XYZ data. XYZ Mesh also comes with the ability to add ‘theoretical points’ to your Excel document. Theoretical points allow Excel to graph surface plots with far greater accuracy and fewer data gaps.

    You can also just create a pivot table of the XYZ data - which will create a mesh

      While you can make MESH charts inside Excel, Excel will not automatically curve your data so you will have a fluid transition from data points. It will also leave empty data points as zero's instead of blanks.

      I built a single-cell formula that takes a desired X, looks up the nearest consecutive data points and interpolates the Y between them. I wonder if this could be generalized with bilinear interpolation to give Z based on X and Y, and used to fill in the missing data before pivoting to mesh format.

    I want to track the variance in the dimension of the component with respect to the origin. Is there any method to track by plotting in excel.

      If you would like to do this with an application you can with XYZ Mesh. Once completed XYZ Mesh can export your plot into Excel.

      They have lots of tutorials on doing exactly what you are asking all inside of Excel. It is very complicated equations, but they are all broken down for you inside of Excel formulas.

    How could Export data into a 3D modeling software package such as Maya? is there an OBJ or FBX format?

      XYZ Mesh can export in plain CSV format or Excel XLSX format. You can also copy and paste the data from XYZ Mesh into any software you like.

      @@TheMudimans Meshlab is a good mesh rendering software for faces and vertices, and offers a lot of viewing functionalities, however it does not work directly with Microsoft Excel to produce graphs formatted for Excel. Meshlab does not curve data or fill in missing data points needed to graph surfaces correctly inside Excel.
      If you are looking for a Mesh viewer, yes, Meshlab is the way to go. If you are wanting a way to export your data into a viewable chart inside Excel with filled in data points and curved surfaces, XYZ Mesh is currently the only software available for that.

    Would it be possible to make a 3D graph over time? I have datasets of the growth of plants and I would like to visualize that with something like this. So let’s say can I input data for day 1 through 30 and then ‘scroll’ through that data causing a graph that appears to be moving? Thanks in advance!

      You could do this with some VBA. Have your completed MESH data available and then program a VBA code to advance the graph down to the next set of days (or time), which will update the graph and make it look like you are scrolling. There are several examples of this online. I personally like Excel Unusual website. Great references on there.

    Does this surface plot need big number of data? I wanted to plot it for an experiment data which has 3 rows and 3 columns. Is it possible?

      Yes that is possible. More data points just make a larger graph.

      You will need to change the row count. It is directly under the input for XYZ. Change the Row Count to more than you need and click 'Update/Clear', then paste your data.
      XYZ Mesh will alert you if your data is too large, and with condense it for you automatically.

      XYZ Mesh can reduce the points down for you so they will work in an Excel Graph.

    How do you convert mesh data into column data?

      XYZ Mesh can convert MESH data into X Y Z. From there you can plot either X and Y, X and Z or Y and Z to create your column chart.
      You can also use the CountIf function inside of Excel to count how many occurrences a certain number has and then plot that into a column graph as well, giving you another option for column plotting.

      As he says, it's a bit of work, but you can make a key column, to the left of the data columns. Assume that's column A, and the X/Y/Z columns are now B/C/D. In the Key column (col A), use formulas like '=text(b2,"0.00")&","&text(c2,"0.00")'. Then in a new table, make the X/Y axes values, as in the video. Assume the X values are in col A, and the Y values are in row 1. In the body of the table, use something like `=vlookup($a2&","&b$1,$a:$c,3,false)'. And if there are N/A cells, you'd have to fix those, like `if(isna(something),"",something)`, where "something" is the vlookup formula. Yes, lots of work. You might be able to do this with a pivot table, if you're good at that.

      That option is available inside of the graph settings inside of Excel.
