@@JanyaAndromedaGalactic I'm not sure you understand what the term "illegal" refers to in this context. Nobody is stopping anyone from building like the video, Lego uses the term "illegal" to describe connections that cause physical stress to the plastics that make up the pieces or connections that could cause damage to the piece if you try to remove them. I used a better looking Spanish tile roof design for a digital MOC I made. You have hinge pieces holding the roof at an angle, and the roof uses plates and angled plates at the corners, while using the 1x1 cheese slopes all over with the small end facing up. You can use nougat, brown, dark orange, etc. to get the right colors. I live in a town with a LOT of these roofs, and I have to say it looks pretty accurate, though it's really part intensive.
The thing that's perhaps annoyed me the most about Lego recent years is that they've spent way too much time introducing new side stud pieces and detail pieces (to the point of INCONSISTENCY and REDUNDANCY) but we haven't gotten anything new for building in 60 degree angles since part 27255.
I like #39 for making things which slide back and forth. It doesn't work amazingly well, and the smallest misalignment can bungle things, but it's nice when you want something with limited back and forth sliding.
Barely even started the video, but I love the "hidden minifigures" idea in this video! that's such a vintage RUclips move to encourage engagement with the video. I miss when more RUclipsrs did little easter eggs like that.
14:49 A bootleg Among Us LEGO set I bought a year ago(originally as a joke but it was surprisingly high-quality) does this technique with a few of the crewmate-task builds, with pre-cut turnaround pins. It was quite interesting!
13:28 is an impossible build. The 1×1 bricks with studs on top and four sides cannot be directly next to one another. The only way for that cube to work would require the 1×1 bricks with studs on top and two adjacent sides, which are rare, and as far as I know were made specifically for the Dr. Who Tardis set.
The cube made of 2x2 plates? It is possible, since the 1x1 bricks w/ studs are never directly next to each other, they stay diagonally adjacent and there's just enough space for the unused studs to fit
I felt like I was crazy. those omni bricks aren't seated like a headlight brick (which is the only way to make a cube like he's describing). He'd need an actual Tardis to fit those extra studs on the side into that build.
Why doesn’t Lego make double sided pieces? Seems like a really useful technique. My nephew loves Lego and is always looking at these videos for new ideas. I think I’m going to use my model building skills and glue him up some permanent double bricks. I’m pretty sure I could glue them perfectly together with a bit of practice.
It's kind of sad imo that a lot of those techniques are only used to outrun the problem that you can't invert the stud direction, a problem that a lot of other brands don't have because they crated pieces that are madr to invert the stud direction. No idea why Lego won't use those pieces as well

4:31 That no longer becomes a bendable joint, it's merely a way to invert studs and renders the hinge unusable.
With the 1x4 plates the joint doesn't bend, but you could put something less obtrusive on it and have it still bend

Lego really needs to just make plates with studs on both sides.that would eliminate the need for most of these.
