- In recent years there has been a sharp increase in the number of people who believe the earth is flat. In this presentation, Dr. Faulkner will briefly describe the history of this phenomenon, examine some of the supposed biblical and physical evidence for a flat earth, and delve into the possible motives of those promoting this idea.
Dr. Danny R. Faulkner earned graduate degrees in physics and astronomy and is distinguished professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina Lancaster, where he taught over 26 years.

Our EXPERIENCE tells us that the earth is still and that the sun, moon and stars move above us. If we had never been indoctrinated from childhood, the idea that we live on a spinning ball hurtling through a vast empty space at mind boggling speeds would be utterly absurd. We accept it because that's what we were taught.
Perplexing Question: When I pour myself a cup of tea in the morning the surface of the water is level. When I dive into my swimming pool the surface of the water is level. When I take my boat to the lake the surface of the water is level. Regardless of the size of the container when water is contained the surface becomes a Horizontal-Level-Plane. I have been to the Andaman Sea, the Indian Ocean, The Mediterranean Sea, The Atlantic Ocean, The Caribbean Sea, The Pacific Ocean, The Great Lakes, everywhere I go the surface of the water is a Horizontal-Level-Plane. The question that continues to perplex me is, where does a Horizontal-Level-Plane exist on a sphere?

@@Derekmartin20 I studied spherical trigonometry and found the "Earth Curve Calculator," and the "Earth Bulge Calculator” on Google. I walked to the end of Santa Monica Pier in Southern California, USA. The Pier is roughly halfway between Point Dume and Palo Verdes Peninsula (The two land masses enclosing Santa Monica Bay 25 miles apart). I entered the data in the Earth Bulge Calculator and found the bulge in the middle of the two land masses will be 104 feet (looking north to Point Dume I will see the land mass 104 feet lower than the center, and the same looking south to Palo Verdes Peninsula). To my naked eye I could not see the slightest bulge. So to be certain I brought, and set up a tripod and fastened a two foot carpenter's level with a six foot straight edge. I leveled the straight edge and sighted the horizon from Point Dume to Palo Verdes Peninsula. The entire 25 miles of water was perfectly level. Perplexing...to say the least.

You need to watch a video on Geocentricity and Cosmological Point of Reference. Despite the Heliocentric model being true, most cosmological observations needs to adhere first to a Geocentric assumption before moving their equations to fit a heliocentric model.
It's a matter of perspective, and both are equally valid, just with specific assumptions

Pythagoras was a believer in the Emerald Tablets. In that he was a sun god worshipper. By having the earth and its inhabitants circle the sun, it is also another way of worshipping the sun. However if the earth is flat with the sun, moon, and stars set within the firmament circling the earth, then there is no doubt the earth is created. Unlike the securlar heliocentric big bang universe, science and scolars duped the church into taking up a false doctrine to appease everyone.

Whenever an object can be seen at a far distance and the curvature of the earth is calculated using the Pythagorean theorem, globe earthers never give a good reason why that object can still be seen. When it should be x number of feet below the curve.
Because it's an average. The earth is full of mountains, hills, and deep valleys. Anyone flying in airplane can observe it. Still doesn't make isaac newton's math wrong on orbiting the sun. Or capernicus, kepler, Galileo, using physics, geometry, and advanced math.. Read some of Newton's works.

It likely started to spin on day 1; otherwise, how would there be an evening and a morning? The fact there was no sun yet is irrelevant. Just as there will be in the new heaven and new earth with God providing the source of light, so it was at the beginning with God's glory providing the light. The evening and the morning indicate the earth spun but the source of light didn't.

Watched 2mins in and the guy already said that the whole flat earth debate was settled 25 hundred years ago by Pythagoras and ancient Greeks, and then simultaneously admits that there isn’t any record for Pythagoras’ reasoning, but since he’s credited with the Pythagorean theorem, he’s smart, and within a hundred years some of the Greek thinkers were thinking round earth, so therefore flat earth debunked.
Okay well the Greek thinkers were also into banging little boys as payment for their schooling and they also worshipped a pantheon of gods, half-man half-gods, titans who were the parent gods of the gods, and did sacrifices and rituals to them. Things that most Christians today would theologically and morally object to. Pythagoras is known for a Pythagorean religious order that believed in reincarnation. Also not much is known that separates reality from mythology about Pythagoras. Plato, another major Greek thinker, is known for kind of wanting to a setup a city-state where an enlightened ruling class at the top of a caste system would use systems of a knowledge hierarchy to only those worthy of illumination with a hierarchy of worth, state controlled eugenics to cull the human herds if need be and control breeding, working towards a more singular purpose, to work them towards a type of apotheosis for the ruling class elites who are the only ones deserving of rule. So the Greek thinkers thought that, so therefore any objections to any of that is debunked.

@@MatuseAnd Hermeticism has been a thing even longer than that. Maybe you weren't aware that Copernicus didn't get his ideas of the heliocentric model from any form of scientific method, but from Hermes Trismegistus. It was Kepler who later added mathematical expression to it.
Interestingly the heliocentric model is mathematically equivalent to Tycho Brahes geocentric cosmology as well. Not so fact based if either can be true depending on which coordinate system you decide to use.
Your belief system isn't settled science, it's a faith based sytem that decided on placing the Greek pagan God Helios at the center of their coordinate system.

Math only exists in reality when the formula has been proven out as a law and you are using measurable constants and unknown variables you are solving for, that are then also measurable. Watched 4:30 in, and he’s saying flat earth debunked because the stars in the galaxy spin around the star Polaris, and he says he can measure the angle to Polaris from places you are allowed to go in the north and south on the earth, and therefore globe from the change in angles. Well if the earth was like the UN flag 🇺🇳 (Find all the continents, North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, the inner most circle is the northern most Arctic, the outer most circle is the southern most Antarctic, and Caesar’s wreath let’s you know who rules the world) the center focus of the universe is earth because God made us special, the stars are like a consistent sky clock that aligned with times and seasons the masses have been dumbed down to not understand fully, with Polaris being a consistent north seeking star that matches up well with magnetic north, then this phenomenon of finding angles to a fixed Polaris in the heavens from different parts of the world in the north and south kind of gets explained away and doesn’t prove a round earth either. Also with the cosmology we are taught to believe in pretty much every school and university would have you believe that we are on globe earth that’s spinning, that’s also flying around a sun with other planets at very high speeds, that’s part of a solar system that’s also spinning and flying through space at very high speeds as part of a galaxy, and YET the star Polaris and the other constellations manage to stay consistent year after year, decade after decade, century after century. You’d think with all that spinning and flying through space we are supposedly doing, those stars we see off in the universe from the surface of earth, would not have a shred of consistency to even have a north seeking Polaris and Big Dipper constellations.

1. Argument 1. It could be as simple as God Stopping Time Itself as this seems to not have happened and recorded elsewhere except by the Israelites. And nope, the March around Jericho did not happen the exact same day.
Also, fun tidbit: Jericho is actually on top of a faultline, and the house that Rahab stayed in just 'happens' to be the strongest part of the wall, and that is why it was spared. That alone takes an INSANE amount of Divine Intervention, and just shows how Science can be used to provide proof of God's Providence, even generations before His Glory will be shown.

The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Many first scientific ventures are rooted on this and the discovery that God created Nature for us to study His Glory. It is just that the Enlightenment corrupted that concept from a God-centered approach of discovering God's Glory in Nature and How He helps us, to a man-centered approach of studying Nature for the glory of man and his achievements. Which led to Naturalism, and all the crazy ideas.
The Scientific Method isn't flawed and cannot give God Glory. It is the Philosophy of the people who just wants to remove God in the Equation (aka, in their attempts to become wise, they become fools; the fools say in their hearts, there is no God)
3. Argument 3: Actually, we have so many prominent Scientists that are Creationists. Linneaus, the Father of Taxonomy, for example, wanted to give man the scientific name that means 'man of the hour', and believed not in an evolutionary tree but a taxonomic orchard with no 'Missing Link'. Blaise Pascal, more famous for the invention of the early calculator, is a very prominent Evangelists of his time. And there are many others in this day and age. The only difference is that they stick to the principle of Understanding God's Nature and Providence by Science, and NOT understanding Science for man's glory

The word used for circle in its original Hebrew form literally translates to "circle, circuit, or compass." In all of these words, none of them conjure up an image of a ball in the mind. Furthermore, if Earth were a sphere and God wanted to communicate that, then it would have been required to use the Hebrew word "dure" (pronounced dur). The Hebrew word "dure" translates to "a circle, pile, or ball." Isn't that interesting? If the shape of the Earth was intended to be conveyed as a ball then the Hebrew word dure would have been the word used, as it was soon after in Isaiah 22:18 "He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a BALL into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy Lord's house." It wasn't used there. What we were given instead was the Hebrew word "khoog" which is clearly intended to mean a level surface (not a ball or sphere).

But the main issue is you're beginning with the assumption WE (Flat Earthers) have the burden of proof. We don't. The only thing anyone reading this has ever observed / experienced in real life is a flat, stationary earth.
Even according to the Heliocentric model, curvature wouldn't be visible until 45,000 ft or so (higher than commercial airplanes fly), so it's true according to both sides of the debate that nobody reading this has ever observed curvature.
So the burden of proof is assigned to the side stating 100% of our experiential knowledge is wrong, and it curves instead (despite none of us ever observing this).
No one reading this has experienced Earth's supposed movement, either. No scientist has detected it to this day.
And prominent scientists also talk about how the Heliocentric model cannot be scientifically verified to be true over competing options. I'll give a list of those quotes in the next post.
So, you have no scientific reason to assume the Heliocentric (Globe) model is true in the first place. None.
You're just relying on the unverifiable word of man (and unverifiable images/ videos from governmental agencies well known for lying to the public) and models/mathematics, which only make predictions and need to be verified to make sure those predictions match reality before the predictions are relevant.

Give me a single verse from the Bible that says Earth is spherical, or any verse that supports the Heliocentrism model in any way. I don't see any verses about distance galaxies, light years, etc. But there are numerous verses saying Earth is stationary, cannot be moved, etc (which only fits with Flat Earth).
The Bible is a Flat Earth book cover from cover. It explicitly teaches a Flat Earth from start to finish. There are many web sites covering all the verses in the Bible that support FE and there are many of them.

By your own literal interpretation, a flat earth isn't a circle either; because the soil creates depth, which would make it a disc, or a short cylinder. Why wouldn't God be more clear about this? I think He was describing the circumference, which is circular, whether it's a disc, or a sphere. Do you even belive in God? If so, do you think knowing the real shape of the earth is important for salvation?

That cannot happen naturally on a flat earth either, genius. What's the maximum distance you can see in a straight line? From the top of Pikes Peak, you can see roughly 30 miles. If Jesus returned at the center of the flat earth model, ie the Arctic, 99.99999% of the earth's population could not see him through natural means as they'd still be too far away. Clearly the text then is referring to either a spiritual event or speaking symbolically through the use of modern technology like televisions. Either way, that verse is not a defense of flat or round earth.

Any pilot or person flying in an airplane will tell you the curvature of the earth on the horizon is very definite. God says He puts our sin as far as the east is from the west, meaning infinity. If the earth is flat, there would be no difference between north and south as compared to east and west. This question is easily answered by any pilot that flies across the oceans.

You forget a lot of us are people of faith, like me. And we are nothing like that. Others are fine promoting their theories and just assuming something is correct is fine as well. To me and us, the truth matters a lot more than it does to many others, God pays attention and we don't dare or want to lie. We will always believe the Bible over the liars running this world, and we won't apologise for doing that. We are all born into a fallen world already deceived. A so-called scientific truth often lasts for a rather short period of time, and then it's replaced by new discoveries. The Biblical truths are eternal, just like our creator whom made this world. To someone like me, who has experienced enough to know that God is very much a reality, there are no other alternatives than to accept what the scripture says...no matter how strange it may seem. I know it is the truth because I know God is a reality. From the moment I 100% knew for sure, a word like faith didn't even come close anymore. It started that way, with a small seed of faith, but that's changed into knowing. Having an encounter with Him, alone at home, changed everything for me. I can understand that's hard to grasp, but the only way to truly understand is to seek Him out for yourself. But I digress, sorry. I will end with this, those that turn to Him will sooner or later learn all there is about this world and reality, and live eternal lives. If we are wrong and there is no God, no one will know because after death there would be nothing. But if we are right, and we are, you have everything to win and nothing to lose by believing and having faith, even the smallest amount changes everything. All you have to do is to hang on because we are all called to endure until the end. And the end...is approaching fast, in my humble opinion.

I've taken thousands of pictures by now with my p900 camera, spent countless hours observing through my Celestron Evolution 9.25 telescope, and ended up admitting we are told and "taught"...a lot of lies. I used to consider NASA as a great source of information and believed every word they said. I even thought they had sent people to the moon and that the moon landing tapes were real. I think the moon landing hoax is known by most people these days, and considering all the mistakes they made one would hope they at least by now admitted they never went to the moon.

You use scripture to show creation but this video right from the beginning uses People from 6 century B.C. in Rome of all places to begin explanation. There are many scriptures that speak about earth but to prioritize ideas from Pagans in Rome over God's word. There is one thing talking about flat earth but another to assume Heliocentric over Geocentric. I'm disappointed to say the least. I'm shocked you took this subject on and when you did, well it wasn't done scientific. The flat earth and Geocentric shouldn't have been married together. This could be an error without solid proof and thus shouldn't make a claim one way or the other if only to keep the name "Answers in Genesis" a source of truth and not hypothesis.
There are hypothesis and there is Observable, Testable and Repeatable science. This video is weak at best. You guys are better than this. The earth is definitely a sphere, there are plenty of ways to test it so it shouldn’t even be a question anymore. Just go to any travel website and look up flights between different countries and they will list the prices and mileage for the flights. On a flat earth, the distance between Australia and Peru would be enormous, but on a globe they are closer. It’s summer time in the southern hemisphere when it’s winter in the north. No question about it, the earth is a sphere. So the question is, was the Bible written by a god who knows this, or was it written by primitive men?

I stopped listening to answers In Genesis when they took there stance on flat earth and decided to go against it so foolishly without looking into the real breakdown. Time and time again flat earthers have shown me that the globe believers arguments are very bad. Over time I realized , the Bible has clearly without allegory told us the truth in plain language and shame on us for ignoring it!!! God's word would not mislead us on the nature of His creation!!! That fact should smack us in the face!!! God's word most definitely tells us clearly of a dome with sun and moon moving!! Isaiah 22:18 uses the word "BALL," in the common-sense usage, as a spherical object.
Calling the earth a "CIRCLE," means a two-dimensional object, otherwise God would've correctly identified the esrth as a ball.

How come we have 24 hours a day and it is dark part of those hours in the day and light part of those hours. If the sun was moving around the earth at that distance you don't think it would hit one of those planets. For any pilots... take a Cessna 150 or an SR71, U2, 747 etc make a mark on the windscreen of where the horizon is while the plane is on the ground. Then take note of the position of the horizon at level flight at any altitude 100 feet to 80,000 feet you will find that the horizon is in exactly the same place. Which is impossible on a globe earth.

And would you really suggest that we're able to successfully aerially navigate the reality of an Earth rotating faster than a bullet leaves a gun while we can't figure out how to calculate how/why it's working? I can't imagine NASA's engineers admitting that. They are planning missions based on the rotation of the Earth and its relative location to other moving celestial bodies, aren't they? You're saying they're doing so without being able to calculate it mathematically?

Is it not odd to you that the math, when assuming a flat, stationary plane, works? That assuming such a thing translates to correct results in reality? I have a close friend who is a civil engineer and I know that he'd say if/when you assume something that is known to be not true it pretty much guarantees a failed result, unless you're wrong in your assumption of what you 'know'. So when a commercial airliner is flying at 550mph, over the course of that hour they don't need to tip the nose in order maintain consistent altitude because the curvature spanning that 550 miles is so insignificant that it is effectively identical to there being no curvature? And I assume you'd say the same about the rotation of the Earth? So, when a plane is landing on a north/south runway at the equator, and the Earth is rotating roughly 1000mph side to side, the plane doesn't need to account for that movement because it is so effectually insignificant on the plane's relative position to the Earth? Or if a helicopter hovers above the ground, it can do so for hour upon hour without having to adjust for the Earth moving beneath it because the movement over a couple hours is effectively identical to it not moving at all? How long would the helicopter have to hover before it had to make an adjustment, do you think? 12 hours?

I did not study business, and yet I achieved great success in business through means that were declared foolish by practices taught in business school (I'm an audio engineer by training, which is a subset of physics). The proof is always in the pudding of reality, and the questions I've posed are simple and directly tied to observable reality. The moment complex understandings of physics are no longer reconcilable with simple observations of reality, the self-proclaimed 'wise' have become foolish, whether they laugh at that deemed 'simple' or not. Because we're both here in this thread, I assume we both recognize Scripture as our foundation of Truth. To my conviction, Scripture lays bare the tensions we're discussing here, revealing plainly that the Earth does not move but rather the Sun moves around above the face of the Earth, and from what I can tell, true, honest scientific method reveals the assertions of scientism to be folly and Scriptural assertions to be true (trigonometry also shows the Sun and Moon to be close). All aeronautical engineering assumes a flat, stationary plane, and those assumptions translate to success in reality, whether we're talking about simple examples of flight or the most advanced. The assumption is proven wise, and any other assumption will be proven very unwise indeed.
I also do not have a doctorate like Dr. Faulkner, but he is appealing to the wisdom of Man above the Wisdom presented in Scripture, even while claiming to find his answers in Genesis. And I for one will call such a thing foolishness even if I am deemed a fool by the holder of a doctorate. The Truth will out, and we appear to live in a time when it is doing so. I remember in elementary school when they taught us the lie that the earth is spinning at 1000 MPH and we all went out and jumped up in the air and said see its not spinning we landed in the same spot lol. You can look at the amatuer balloons and they come back down very close to where they were released only moved by the wind but if it was spinning at a 1000 MPH they stay up for an hour sometimes so shouldnt they be a 1000 miles away? They are always just a few miles away from the release point.

If the GPS system was everything they've cracked it up to be, why didn't they didn't know precisely where flight MH370 crashed 10 years or so ago?

It works in the middle of Russia, where the USA cannot build ground stations. It works in the Iraqi desert, where there are no ground stations. GPS is only possible because it uses satellites.
The 'estimated position' is not what the pilot sees in the cockpit: they have an exact position, even in the middle of the ocean.
This position fix is not routinely transmitted back to base during the flight. This is why MH370 was not found.

You say the plane doesn't transmit this data back to base? But couldn't the base receive signals directly from the satellites the same as the plane? Why wouldn't they? You say it they are not ground-based but satellite based and if that's true, there should never be a plane's location that isn't known exactly by everybody. Flight MH370 going missing speaks volumes against your satellite based GPS system. And I don't know anything about Russia. Maybe they have ground-based towers there as well. I don't believe in space. The Bible speaks of the firmament above us. That means space does not exist in the sense that we've grown used to. Therefore, there are no satellites floating around in space. They're all floating on huge balloons everywhere. They routinely fall to earth when their balloons deflate.

The airplane receives several of these signals and based on the time difference, you can calculate where the airplane is.
For the ground to get this information, the airplane has to broadcast it back to a ground station. This is done via ADS-B, a HF radio system which is line-of-sight, so in the middle of the ocean airplanes are not in contact with ground stations.

Earth has gravity, different gases have different weights. Hydrogen and helium are lighter than oxygen, that’s why baloons and blimps fly and why it’s hard to breathe at high altitudes and older cars would have to get the carburetor adjusted for high altitudes. I've seen cameras zoom in on ships that supposedly had sunk below the horizon. So he's dead wrong on that point. The only limit is our vision. The horizon is flat. Go up in a plane, you don't see curvature.

I think it's good to question these things. Most of this stems from distrust in authority, especially secular authority. Something this big doesn't really change how I'm faithful in where God has put me one way or the other.

It doesn't make sense to me. The Bible says; and this is from the King James Version, in Genesis 1:6-7 it says God divided the waters from the waters. Waters that were above the Earth and waters below. What water? If you took a container full of water and went in the middle of it, and divided it to make a void; or space in the middle. The water would be a Flat Surface. Then God made the dry land on that Surface. Then in Isaiah 34:4 it says The Havens were rolled together like a Scroll. So what; The Entire Outer Space is gonna get rolled up like a scroll? Also in multiple places in the Bible it says, Up into Heaven. Well if you're in Russia and go Up; vs if you're in the US and go Up, That's two different directions on a sphere. Another one; In the Book of Enoch it says that Enoch was taken Far to the East and then Far to the West. And saw the Ends of the Earth. How does that make any sense? Or in Revelation 7:1; and a bunch of other books, It says The Four Corners of the Earth. What does that mean? Spheres don't have corners. And lastly; What happens if you play a Video Game like Halo; or Gta, or many other games and you go out of bounds. What happens? Take Gta; the Water just goes on forever and ever. Filling up the disc space. Why would they develop it like that? Cause it's way easier then trying to make a Whole Universe with a Planet that has the Game Map on it. Wouldn't God do the same thing? Why make a Whole Universe if its just cosmetic? And then there's All this talk about how the Worlds going to end soon. Or rather, Jesus is going to come in the End Times; Soon. And we haven't even really gone to Mars. And there's a Whole Universe of unexplored Planets that we will Never even get to explore? Whats the point? We don't even got people living on the Moon. Now I don't know what the shape of the Earth is.... But I don't think its a Sphere. And a few of the things he was saying. I didn't watch the whole video. But some things that "prove the Earth is a Sphere" can also be explained on a Flat Plane. Now the Real Question is... Is Space; with All its Sun's and Planets, real or not? Iv'e never been to Space. And all the Actual footage of Space is just someone going up really high, then coming right back down. Why doesn't it look like Sandra Bullock and George Clooney from that one movie? Or even the curvature of Earth that can be seen from Space. Take a flashlight and shine it on the ground. Does it not make a circle of light. Where depending on the type of flashlight; The edges are dark and without light. It looks just like what we see from in Space. But why would the government; or the Whole World, lie to us? Idk... To draw attention away from God. All the depressed people that think life is meaningless. How we are just a Rock hurtling in an Infinite Space. With no meaning. It's all random. Man...it's his attitude at the very beginning and many peoples like that, that originally made me start questioning things. They scoff and act like children over the idea of a stationary plane, yet his explanation is all over the place and doesn't bring in much scripture. I'm only 26 minutes in and really can't handle watching more because of his attitude. When someone comes out with this information in a better mood, maybe I might listen to them....but still be highly suspicious. Sad, because the ark really is incredible. Phases of the moon are not caused by the Earth. The blacked out part of the moon is the moon casting a shadow on itself. Just like night is the Earth casting a shadow on itself.
It's the earth's shadow, and it's the sun's light reflecting back at us.....
