That front seal for the trans pump looks like it was leaking. That could cause the slippage when the fluid thins out when warm it starts peeing out the seal and no pressure to shift. Clutch plates are probably shot now though. Full tear down and inspection if you want to tow stuff. There is a RUclipsr who does these ZF and other trans tear downs, Gary Ferraro, he does good trans videos.
Good to know! Seems they do have quite a few common issues. However loosing drive in 1st to 4th when warm is normally something clutch a, related. We'll know soon anyway.

Ahhh autos... my arch nemesis.. at least you'll get it sorted man will be a nice car once you fix that bit 😊🤘 you need a trans jack tho sooo much nicer to work with...
Lol 😂 Fxxk everything thing else I admire your honesty about forgetting to unbolt the torque converter , for the record I will neither confirm or deny that I’ve done that (cough cough ) 😅 you are a brave guy ha ha 👍🙏🏼🇬🇧😄
Hi.. Question.. Could you move the car without the gearbox?? I mean if I remove gearbox can I push the car anyhow - I cannot leave the car on the lift.. Thanks
Well thanks for ur vids 0-60. My x5 is slipping when oil is hot too and it has had delay thud moving from p to d a couple of times lateley when hot too. I am not getting a engine light and no codes either this issue has started after a missing fault (two coils replaced) and both front CV's. No noise to speak of moving through the gears whilst stationary. The last time I drove it I accelerated out of a dip and it slipped making a noise as if the tires were spinning then clunked into gear (it was like a bowling ball in the boot feeling). My passenger thought it was tire spin noise but not a chance on dry bitumen in an x5. I am suss on the shaft between the transfer case and the front diff any ideas or guidance would be good if anyone has had these probs with thier bmw

You can probably convert it to a RWD 6 speed manual using an e39 6speed gearbox but you will have to customize the driveshaft and have a bit of custome programming done since the 4.6iS v8 never came as a manual or RWD. xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53-forum/90835-4-6is-6-speed-manual.html www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53-forum/67540-01-x5-4-4i-6spd-manual-11.html

Appreciate the recommendation.
I have the exact same Imola X5 4.6iS but a Dinan S2. Best X5 ever!
Nice vid mate!
Good work, looked like it wasn't too challenging to get out. Looking forwards to seeing the next video (I know I'm running behind)
the range module on the right hand side of the box is prone to fail when the car gets hot loss of gears

You guys are just about ready to open up a BMW repair shop.
Good stuff guys. Love a bit of variety :)
Thanks man. I definitely like learning about the different models and how things work.
Cannon plugs those round connectors are called cannon plugs
Gday mate. I’ve got an 05 e53 and the trans feels likes the seals need redoing. Would you pay the $4k+- on the trans rebuild? 😊
That would be a ZF5hp-24A for all wheel drive vehicles😁

What's that? We need to supercharge it and run it on e85.... hmmmm good idea

It sounds like internal oil pressure issues in the trans just like this. I’d been looking at getting the box apart
What happened to it bro

Good vid 👍🏻 Get yourself a hard hat haha
Put manual box in it
Do you know if a manual awd box that would hold the V8 power? I thought the x5 manuals were only in the 6 cylinders.
@@ZeroTo60Tube 6 cylinder manual ZF box would hold it, but I don't think they bolt up.
I don’t know if it’s different than the gas 6cyl, but it possible the one fitted to diesels was beefed up for torque.
