I got a tiny jack russell pup 19 months ago, when I say jack russell, her dad was a jack patterdale mix, the 2 girls of the little were more like patterdale in colour chocolate and tan, mine has green eyes and the patterdale frilly neck and patterdale ears. A bit smallet than a patterdale and her character is slightly different to a full jack russell A beautiful little dog so love both breeds now. She comes from a working line but is so chilled out that she's being trained up as a visiting dog for dementia patients.
I have a Patterdale and she is 13yrs old now and she is our princess and she is very spoilt. And she gets on really well with our 5 cats and absolutely loves children ❤️
We’ve got a working Lakeland which is basically a Patterdale with a different coloured wired hair. He’s on it like a car bonnet. Tracks planes in the air. Constantly monitoring everything in his vicinity. Like no dog I’ve ever had, and I’ve had EBT’s and Borders etc. Your right. They’re not ideal pets for everyone. They need a purpose and to be stimulated. But. The most loving dog I’ve ever had. Keep up the good work mate. 👍
Mines a quarter Patterdale the other three quarters are jack russell, she came from a litter of 5 , the 2 girls look more Patterdale, she's a little demon, so as I live in rabbit country I have to put a tracking collar on her, was doubtful about getting her but so glad I did.
All patterdales I've had I've always had first pick of the litters and I aways ended up choosing the smallest females. Never regretted it. I have the most beautiful tiny, long legged all black girl at the moment. I don't work mine like you do but I take her out chasing rabbits on leash and getting in the bushes and brambles and on the game trails and rabbit holes and all the smells and she loves finding a scent and going for it, and if she sees rabbit she's gone straight on it. One of our main commands is "Go Check". She keeps me fit enough for sure lol Beautiful dogs you got there as well.
I am so excited to be getting my Patterdale pup. Momma is still pregnant but oh my when I get my new baby. Thank you for this video as it has helped me to better understand what I’m getting in a dog and that they need so much exercise. This is hoping to be great for me and for her. As I said thank you so much for this information
I can confirm cuz I owned 3 already, finding the toughest lines, they are absolutelly crazy and on underground competitions they have no competition of other small terrier breeds, believe me they are that crazy, tough, precise and fast. Big con is they are crazy too much xDD
Great video. I have a Patterdale dog who is 11yrs old now and love him. One question I have for you is, why do you use a big wide collar. Thanks Steve 👍
It's not just rats, it's mink, ferrets, but cats are okay. they're down to get into the water. I've seen them leap so high into the air they can fly. the ultimate confidence in whatever you want them to do and he's right about them around other dogs. they're small, but couldn't give two F's they'll hold their own.
Hi do you have contacts to get a pup from working parents I had terriers years ago working fox ect ) really fancy a one be good doing ratting again have farms so a contact would be great thank you )
@@CKFROMTHEWYLDUKaccidental breeding and I was lucky enough to get one of the pups. Like a bigger, calmer patterdale. Will work but more of a companion.

@@neilmurray7842 I think they're being bred as a smaller alternative to a PB, not as an oversize "working" terrier - but that's only from what I've read.
@@JibbarJabbar they have been bred in Britain for a century and nobody crosses them with Pitbulls which have been bred there for two centuries does that not tell you something…
@@maddogsenglishmen8020not guaranteed good with kids, my daughter's Patterdale bitch she was given lost its first home at 8 months old because it did bite the children. Have to know what you are doing with these little hunting terriers.
I have worked shepherds/mals for 25yrs. I've had boerboels ( 90% aren;t worth crap, just pets with a famous name of protection), pits, cane corsos, duthies, bull terriers, etc. I had a patterdale and was a complete trash mess. The dog was afraid of dominant dogs as a full fledged adult with no negative history. The dog was crossed with a garbage pit but the top have was from roughneck kennels. I am thinking about getting another to used as a hard little watch dog that'll go out and get rats for fun but also want a protection working dog. So I am caught. Dogos are on the list, dutchies, or a GSD. Not sure as of yet. The little patterdale would be much easier to move with, no breed bans, etc. Ive been told they don't fire up on strange humans. My last didn't do anything. The little red male firing up at the van is a very good alarm so I can grab my tools for self defense in the event of strange people attempting invasion. After the last 3 dogs training and bringing to maturity the corso, olde english bulldog, and boerboel all failed miserably. worthless. Just nothign more than pets. None of them worked despite the breeders swearing they would. That's why I don't trust them and can get working sheprhds from working kennels and get what I really need. Very rare you get patties that will to fun protection sports. So how are they in general? If I get a solid hunting line with the dog fire up at intruders, etc?
Hi mate! Love the video.. got a Patterdale from strong working line and looking to see if there’s anyone in Yorkshire area that breeds trying to find them is proving very difficult would deeply appreciate any help! Best
Love the video. We have a 3 year old bitch. She loves us so much it is hard to put into words, but she is a game little dog--incredible drive and super aggressive. She ignores other dogs just like yours! Ha! So funny. They just want to hunt and kill.
I got Three dad mum and son(8 weeks)... The heart on these dogs is insane rudeboy! But like he said recall recall recall dog socialisation young aswell. You know what collar he's got on?
Not an easy dog for a novice owner who just wants a pet because most of them come from serious working lines and will escape if given the chance because of their high prey drive.
Will get very bored though if you don't at least give them hard/fun mock hunt/play sessions. We use basket ball and rope toys, she runs after the ball (which is too large for her to puncture) while growling/barking chomping on a tough rope toy. Uses that unspent energy and brain activity a mere walk does not satisfy.
Patterdales are indeed a good ratter in the open, but rats get under floors and in attics, im a pro and can't use a dog that will bring a ceiling down, so no patterdales are unusable in the working trade of pest control, get a Norfolk
Patterdale Terriers are my favourite breed of dogs. I got one last month . And she's cured all my depression. I love her 🤩
i agree completely!

The perfect mix!

so Rollo is a Patterdale terrier then?
I’d love to see a pit cross with one of these
That'd be a drivennn dog
They're breeding them in the US. Google "Pocket Pitbulls". Nice companion/guard dogs, but too big for working.
Why would you want to add any bull terrier to a Patterdale it would dampen their prey drive ….

Raw
the small ones dont take any bs, often more dominant
Are these dogs good with familys and small children?
Yes cos they are animal aggressive not human aggressive
