    While I enjoy nearly all of the items that I've bought based on ATK's recommendation (probably about a dozen things at this point), the MIU turner is my only regret because as a left-handed user it was not comfortable. The slanted front end of the head was just awkward for me. A left-handed or ambidextrous alternative would have been appreciated. I was disappointed when they mentioned that they tested with left-handed users, but didn't speak to their experience in this video.

      I recommend the Vollrath Flexible Pancake Turner, it is symetrical and thus Ambidextrous
      My mother found one at a garage sale long LONG ago and it quickly became the ONLY turner/spatula she would use
      Despite using it EVERY day it still took 15 years to wear it out. It broke while she was prying 2 pieces of frozen chicken apart (Not the first time she'd used it as a crowbar)
      I took the broken pieces and managed to find The same Spatula on the (at the time) new website called Amazon
      It was the best Christmas Present I ever got buying 3 $8 Turners (1 with slots and 2 without)
      She still has them

    I bought this Wüsthof spatula a few years back, and I love it. However, I also bought your recommended nonstick Matfer Bourgeat Exoglass Pelton Spatula, which I use far more often as it's more versatile (and at under $17, it's also far more reasonably priced). But I must admit I also still have a cheapo wide spatula for the few occasions where a narrower fish spatula just won't work, and a left-handed one for my backwards family members 🙂.

    • @Ma_Ba
      @Ma_Ba 3 года назад +2

      I got the Exoglass Matfer Bourgeat. Great for eggs, but it has a temp rating. Think my steaks and chops with my Matfer Bourgeat black steel are searing too hot for it and a little melt down stringiness has me looking for metal. It has the temp printed on it, but I didn't know how hot I was going!

    One thing you didn't mention was a deal breaker for me; the leading edge, the part that first goes under an egg or cookie, etc. first has to be straight across. If something has stuck to the pan and the edge is curved, it tears the food up instead of going smoothly under all at the same time. Love my fish spatulas!

      ATK sold the nylon fish spatula by Matfer Bourgeat on sale with black steel pan for a pandemic restaurant relief fundraiser in 2020. The spatula was $10 when paired with that pan for that time. @Jonathan Douglas comments above about it. I found I sometimes hit over the max temp when searing a steak and need to flip it, so back still need a metal. No longer concerned about scratching surfaces with metal. Think nylon and even silicone say max 400 F or thereabout. Heard the trick of restaurants is how hot they get for the sear, but now the sear is being debunked for steaks?

    • @saltycrow
      @saltycrow 3 года назад

      I call those my Grandma spatulas. She had 2 of them and using both could easily flip a 10" catfish filet without losing a flake of meat off that fish. They were just small thin stainless, probably no more than 2.5 inches across the spatula part and there was a thin piece of stainless that ran down the center with open space on each side before the stainless that formed the framing on the sides. But she could wield 2 of them in unison to flip anything and not ruin any of it, she was a great cook. I started house keeping about 40 some odd years ago with 2 also(learned from Gram), but lost one somewhere over the years. You're right, they are hard to find. We have a Uncle Joes in the area that has a great section of well made, old models of all kind of kitchen stuff, they also carry more unique pieces of granite or some folks call blue speckle granite. Real light weight stuff. Seems campers use that a lot? Anyway, I think(?) I might be able to get one there. I just stopped going out unless I have to now. I've learned to love ordering online, and just opening the door to recieve a package. So much easier than a trip to town. I'm in a high infection rate for covid. So while I first thought staying home was inconvenient... I'm definitely loving every minute of it now.
      That said... If you don't have any luck finding one maybe I could help you get one or a few so ya have them. You just need to send me a message here on youtube and I'll give you proper contact info and we can make sure we're even talking about the same spatula.
