- The Celtics got their doors blown off in Game 4 in one of the worst losses in NBA history. The Mavs played harder and executed better. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal says the Celtics had their opportunities to stop the game from getting out of control, but they just couldn't make the right decisions at the right times to stop Dallas. In the end, it's not that big of a deal, and they have a chance to win a championship at home.

This happens yeah 38 is a lot to lose by to make it 3-1. 2017 finals Warriors lost game 4 by 21, and came back and won game 5 and secured the championship. We got this we’re good. Celtics in 5 ☘️🏆☘️

As a Mavs fan I will admit that the Celtics looked very uninterested in winning this game. Seems like they wanted to try to get the win in Boston. The only problem is the way they got beaten tonight might had gave my Mavs some confidence to try and steal one there in game 5. I wouldn’t bet on them winning but if they mange to do it, that will definitely put the pressure on Boston.

38 points was about right for the disparity in effort between the two teams. Dallas was basically running on adrenaline at 110% and the Celtics were dragging arse at around 70%. The Celtics could've lost to any team in the NBA last night.
Basically we saw Dallas at their absolute peak and Boston at their absolute bottom.
You haven't seen Dallas at their absolute peak if Luka hasn't outscored your entire team in the first half and finished with a 50 point triple double, with all the other guys playing like they did yesterday, or better. (Mind you, Luka was 0-8 and Kyrie was 1-6 from 3, there hasn't been one single game in which both played their usual.)
But you are not going to see that, tho, mainly because of Luka's knees, Kyrie's history with Boston and how SCARED the Mavs role players look once they step in the TD Garden. If both teams had the same level of experience and played average-to-great (not horribly as Dallas in games 1-3 and Boston in game 4), this series would have been pure gold. Two VERY good teams in terms of potential, but VERY unstable psychologically (especially Mavs).

Actually, they did that for every playoff victory this year not just tonight. It is strange though. And no, we’re not. Unlike them, we can actually get to conference finals and finals ever so often 😂

Never good to lose that ugly but big picture we did exactly what we needed to do won 1st 2 at home and stole 1 of the 2 on the road. I am not panicked only concern is we gave The Mavs some life so maybe they continue to play much better.
As a Mavs fan I agree. The way the Celtics lost is a bit strange, but overll they did exactly what they had to in the 4 games so far. Won 3, lost 1 now have a chance to close out the series at home. Only thing that COULD be a bit concerning: The Dallas role players found their rythm. Basically all of them were completely off the first 3 games. Not only from 3, but also around the basket. They have no pressure whatsoever now. So lets see how they all play in game 5. Will the shots still fall, or will they go back playing like they did in the first 3 games?

While I agree that this is exactly how the plan goes and Boston is still heavily favorites to close in 5, you can just imagine how if the Mavs were more experienced -- especially role players, who only in game 4 finally didn't walk into the court SCARED -- this could have been a much different series. Maybe the psychology has changed a bit, as Mazulla pulling off before 4th quarter did not look good at all in that aspect. The mental/attitude carryover to game 5 will be key, cause if Celts choke and this goes back to Dallas, you're in trouble.
The only role player I'd worry about gaining confidence is DJJ because his was absolutely gone in these finals.

Of the 156 times (as of May 27, 2024) an NBA team fell into a 3-0 deficit, only 4 of them (~3%) forced a game seven which they ultimately lost. NBA has been in existence for 74 years. Boston will win the chip.

I watched every Celtic game this year and knew at half time it was going to be a blowout. I have seen this type of lack of effort and how they throw in the towel. I didn't even bother watching the 2nd half.
I agree, you know within 10 minutes when the Celtics aren't going to play good. The bad thing is they do not keep the pressure on when they go up big. I hope that is only in a single game and not in the whole series! They better turn the effort and execution up in game 5 or things might get too interesting!

I think at first I wasn’t happy we lost in this fashion but like you say John, whether it’s one point or 100 points the win is all that matters. I guess in this instance losing by 38 is still a loss whether we played well and still lose by 1 point. I didn’t get the best feeling purely off the body language of the Celtics. It felt relaxed in a bad way and they didn’t look sharp. On the other hand I think Mavs did make some adjustments but were mainly things that they should have been doing 3 games ago. They sped up bring the ball and generally got straight into it. But other than that it was mainly just more effort on defence and offence. Tatum definitely got in his head which wasn’t great, he basically did what Luka did last game. We missed a lot of pretty good looks but again mostly forced not off the action we normally run. They looked slow and eventually the scoreboard reflected it. I’m hoping we blow them out on our home court. Let’s end the season with some Gino time.

Yep. 9 out of 76 I think. It’s tough to beat a team 4 times straight. Dallas adjusted, played better defense and we couldn’t hit the broad side of the USS Constitution

It was an outlier, Dallas were a step quicker all night. All Dallas' role players stepped up at the same time. Our starters were discombobulated from the opening tip. All 5 starters had absolute stinkers (maybe White I can give a pass to) but that just won't happen again. The Refs let Dallas do whatever they wanted on D to start. I'm sure next game will be called way different. Tatum got into his feels when the calls weren't going his way, exactly like Luka last game. Gentleman's sweep at home.

Every commercial break had a mavs dunk over a celtic that wasn't blocking out. X had a very obvious just watching with a big smile and Tatum just watched a put back dunk because be was having a pouting moment. Bad effort on board lost this. Series ends when a elite player exploite the mid range. NBA mid consistant smooth range is what destroy the will of teams when defense is taking away the three or shot not Falling.
If this was fixed, then expect the next 2 to be as well, because once you adhere to the logic that NBA wants to make the most money possible to the point of rigging, then having 7 games becomes the only way to go.
It was a strategic losss imo! Would we loved to have just closed it out sure!! But i think they came out with a plan if it starts out going our way then fine we go with it but if it goes dallas we will just ride it out as well screw it and save our best performances for at bid at home

To me it felt like 1. Our drives to the basket were weak and not very effective, there seemed to be multiple defenders in the driving lanes. 2. I don’t know if they were playing in a zone or what but even on kick outs we they just seemed to always be in the right spot defensively
I had the CEltics winin this series in 6 so i cannot be mad that they lost a game. However, i did not like, at all, they way they lost it. The game was over before then end of the first half. Futhermoe, Dallas play a very good defensive game and hit some shoots taht they were not hitting but it was not like they were on fire, having the game of their lives. That was weird. To see The Celtics almost playing like they were just killing time.

I know some fans are upset Boston did not sweep last night. If you look at it with basketball sense, Boston accomplished what it had to do after going up 2-0 at home. You go on the road and get a split. I would rather be up 3-1 than tied at 2-2.
