That's the NYC metro, though. It was felt in NYC and throughout the NE. The part of Jersey the fault is in is in was in a rural part, which is what they meant about it not being centered in an urban area. They should've been clearer about that, though.

It was in western NJ. People are making it seem like it was literally in midtown. We felt it way more in the Poconos than they did in NYC.
I live 5 miles South of Pocono Raceway in Effort, PA. I sure as hell felt it, the house shook a bit and the dishes in the China Cabinet were rattling, it was between 5 and 10 seconds.
Remember all that hydraulic fracturing for the Natural Gas. In NE . PA. Had nothing to do with it. Right?
People forget there are several faults in the general area. I believe one run right under Manhattan.

Ya I’ve been hearing that for decades and so has the last billion people for the last 2000 years and nothing still.
That is a small earthquake I remember the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in San Jose California. I was 4 years old at the time playing in the garage. The ground was shaking so much I couldn't stand up, everything was falling off the shelves and even a couple shelves fell over fortunately I was in the middle of the garage away from all the tool shelves. There was mass power and water outages alot of little fires and part of the bay bridge along with several cars fell into the ocean. Amazingly the house wasn't very damaged other than things being all over the floor. You guys are lucky you don't get the 7 to 9 quakes we can get on the west coast.
That was 1000 times stronger than this NY "earthquake." Obviously they are soft there.
NYC not built like SF or LA they don't have building stabilizer etc. hell some those skyscraper are old enough to get blown down by a strong wind 😂😂😂😂

@@SuperCitizen I'm an electrician who has wired some of the Seattle skyscrapers and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near them during an earthquake. I have seen them carpet over cracked concrete floors and been told to not wheel our heaviest tool carts through certain parts of the building.
As a Northern California chick, 4.5 mag aftershocks, I wouldn't even notice.

Im from the BayArea in CA and was thinking the same thing. I guess when you have quakes in the East they shake harder or differently for some reason.

I am from the area. NJ and NY city are situated on top of ancient fault lines, and extinct volcanos. I remember a small 3.0 quake centered under Tenafly, NJ, in 1983. Scared the daylights out of us!

It was not centered near NY City. Look at the map for New Jersey and find Hunterdon County where the epicenter was. But like everything else. It's NY Centric. Even the Governor referred to the area as West of Manhattan without saying New Jersey.

I woke up, flying through the air, thrown out of bed in the Northridge quake. That was an earthquake. You felt a minor tremor that we barely even notice here in California.

Try to stay away from bridges & being stopped under overpasses. Recall a pickup truck we drove by after the 1971, 6.6 Sylmar quake. Cab was crushed by the overpass. Just the bed sticking out with a license plate showing who it belonged to. 2 guys on their way to work.

I knew earthquake was gonna happen, but I just didn’t know it was gonna be there. I live in California. The past two Thursdays in a row I have heard and felt it was gonna be an earthquake. I could hear this rumbling, but then nothing. I have been thinking about earthquakes for the past two weeks. Normally I think about them and then I feel them before they happen. and they said this was the first earthquake in 200 years. A 4.8 isn’t even that big something is gonna happen; good; bad, but something is gonna happen I can feel it.💯💯💯💯

I felt an earthquake for a brief second here in Farmington New Hampshire thought it was the wind but there was no wind now I realize it was the earthquake because the building shook for brief moment maybe a couple seconds and I heard a rumble really quick sitting on my couch
Yo so this happend in school and me and my friends were like “it was Caseoh” bc we didnt belive it was a earthquake. So when the dean screamed “MY DAUGHTER JUST CALLED ME AND SAID THE INTIRE HOUSE WAS SHAKING” the intire class was screaming and crying. when it was recess me and my friends brought some food and ran out the building. But like that was scary like first time experience.
