Despite the poor quality of the actual creepy pasta, the image is legitimately creepy and I’m intrigued to learn its origin when somebody does finally find it.
Can't really describe how fun it's been following this rabbit hole. Mix of nostalgia for the old image and (poorly) written story with actual intrigue of a mystery we thought we solved.

There's a Japanese youtuber I stumbled upon while researching this that has covered this topic a bit. It seems even in Japan, this thing is just as elusive.
It’s so frustrating because it feels like we’re right on the cusp of stumbling into leads that could help us track down the source image but because of how old they are most of them are just completely gone. Holding out hope that we can genuinely find it one day with the progress thats been made so far.
Honestly I sometimes wonder if the original photo is impossible to find online because it was actually never posted to a website? Like a person could have taken a selfie or a photo of a friend an edited it into that weird whiteface entity just for fun. Hopefully that's not the case though since it would suck if turned out everyone wasted a lot of time for no good reason.
What if the original just doesn’t even exist online? The original user could have just uploaded the edited photo and never uploaded the unedited version meaning it’s literally impossible to find as it just doesn’t exist.
Even if they kept the original files, it could be gone now. Yes nothing is ever really gone from the internet, or even your computers if you know how to dig, but with how old it is even if it was deleted, it likely is lost to time and the only thing we'd have left for proof is someones words

🎯New lead in the subreddit. About the woman named Mariko. Similar to most (actually informed) speculation, the picture was part of a bullying thread about a lol cow or “net-idol”. Basically early 2000s japanese amberllyn reed with her clout chasing bullying boyfriend who made a site about her. Bf was then cancelled by 2chan, that then helped wipe her bullying off internet (so not many archives). Same bf had a thing for making paranormal edits, though they are still not sure if he made the og jtk (white face) image. It’s definitely her, but now the search for the original image of her that was photoshopped is still on.
Man, the search for Jeff the Killer's image origin is pretty much a modern analogue for Jack the Ripper's identity hunt. Kinda reminds me of "Dance of the Gull Catchers", an annex at the end of "From Hell" (Alan Moore's graphic novel about the ripper). I recommend it for anyone who's into the search, it illustrates how human compulsions haven't changed that much, and why this search has been such a complicated mess.
I am in awe that you could do this to me. I am presently undergoing a complex and multifaceted emotional state that is causing me considerable distress and discomfort. This state is marked by a combination of negative emotions, including but not limited to disappointment, dissatisfaction, and sadness. Additionally, there may be a sense of anger, frustration, or helplessness that I am experiencing, which is contributing to my overall sense of unease and distress.
Its a bummer that we still haven’t found any leads towards the image but i know that one day the image will be found and it will be trending on all platforms, the image will be truly historic

This is really intriguing! It's surreal to think that the meme, stock jumpscare image that was all over Roblox 6 or 7 years ago, has so much history and depth, and people are so passionately searching for a source!
Good old memories. I remember when I used to be a teacher in 2015, I heard my 4th grade students trying to scare each other with stories. So I showed them this photo on the projector. A few boys started screaming, so the boss (I don't know what they're called because it was an after-school center, so I guess "boss" is the right word) entered the room to check what I was showing. Needless to say she wasn't thrilled lol. After that every time I'd start the projector she'd come and check what I'm showing the kids. BTW thanks for this fun video.
Lazy Masquerade tried to track down the original in one of his videos about Japanese mysteries. He came to the conclusion that some users were playing something called the let me be cute game, where one user would post a human or human like face and other users would make some edits to make it scary; presumably a play on the Japanese words for "cute" and "scary" sounding similar. Unfortunately he didn't find the original, but I think he's on the right track. Edit: the video title is "4 Extremely Creepy Mysteries from Japan", and it's the 4th mystery featured in the video.
*DING!* And we now have Eric Wise as a contender for the 10k. Glad to see you back, still strong, and even interacting with the current RUclipsr community. Keep doing you, man :) and purchase a firearm. I'm concerned for every journalist's health and safety.
Here's an idea, what if there is no such thing as an original photo. The image it's self looks like it could be something that was photo bashed together.
I remember reading in a discussion about it back then (~2011-2012) that it was just an edit of the (also popular at the time) Overly Obsessed Girlfriend meme. You can definitely see the similarities. But man, that sure takes me back.
If there's an entire subreddit devoted to figuring this out and they haven't come close to generating any solid leads... short of the person who took the original selfie coming forward... I highly doubt this one will ever be solved. Those basement investigator dorks on Reddit don't f*ck around when it comes to solving dumb and/or mundane mysteries.
What's crazy is that I have always been 1 trillion% certain that I have seen the original image before on a forum discussing it, but it's been so long I have no clue where or when anymore. Maybe on the old haunted Majora's Mask cartridge ARG forum?
I think people are missing the fact that the image doesn’t have to an “origin”. This image could’ve been taken from a family photo album and edited. If that’s the case, the only image you would be left with, is the least edited one mentioned in the video. To find the “ORIGINAL” original, you would have to find the offline photo, which is impossible. Even if someone comes forward and says “yup this is the original”, how would you be able to believe them?
Honestly, the image labeled "Natchi" actually looks like it very well could be a fit for the original image. The same face shape, same hair, even the backgrounds look a bit different.
There's a post on the reddit that got my attention titled, "added the mr potatos eyes and someones mouth into the image and they match" The OP clearly found the exact image of the eyes and mouth yet refuses to elaborate further + not giving sources. The mouth is literally the *exact same.* I feel like this guy knows somethin' about this that we don't.
“He lost interest in the conversation” gee, I wonder why… maybe if you mentioned there’s potentially 10 stacks on the line he would’ve been more cooperative 🤨
It makes a lot of sense if the original image was a screenshot from someone's webcam, that was later photoshopped. If that's the case, there's no original recording to find (like a TV show) the only person who could put this to bed would be the person who took the original screenshot, and possibly photoshopped it. Even if that was the case and someone could actually find and get into contact with them. It's unlikely they would still have the source imagine, meaning that all that's left is the reposted Photoshops
Aw man he didn't need to react at you like that you got deep into this case nothing to be ashamed of in fact kudos to you i hope you eventually find the source of the image bc 11k is alotta loot. 💰
The photo comes from an old Japanese webcam stream where there’s a woman near the camera hiding inside her closet filming a blog then people started to make fun of her looks then the images where later taken down off the site 4chan later made a thing to photoshop her to make her look creepy

its so wild that this picture STILLL makes me jump to this day. every other spooky meme image has loooooong since lost its punch but jtk still gets me every time i see it
I was always fascinated by the origins of this image. Knowing the story definitely makes it less scary, but for me that’s a positive. Anything remotely horror-ish tends to cause me episodes of psychosis, so I like getting the story behind it and having stuff debunked. :)
i used to watch this youtuber called joty6efreturns that did a series debunking creepypastas and he did an episode on jeff the killer. At that point i also became fascinated by the work that goes behind creepy images and creepypasta videos
Great effort Scare! And thank you for making this and adding a thousand to the prize pool! Having these summaries of what we know up until now will always be useful for those new to the investigation!
Honestly we probably won't find it. A lot of old internet pictures are gone now and the original was shopped to hell yet only 3 variants existed in 2005 so it likely wasn't as big a meme. It's probably gone forever.
Ok so I was actually a channer between the 2005-2011 era and I vaguely recall what the so called "original" image was for this. I use quotation marks because even back then people were curious about it but you see at one point, there was this sort of game people did where they'd edit pictures and post and others would judge which edit was the best. Hence why we have so many versions of it now. I used to save some of this because I was an /x/phile and spooky stuff was recycled on the regular since that particular board was less active as time went by and we grew out of the phase. I have an old terabyte that I moved over lots of old computer data to but I can't remember the exact date I got it. Meaning I'll look to see what I have but I'm not sure if I have the specific image I am talking about. Be back with an update.
Sad news, I could not find the picture I was searching for. Turns out I even had a 4chan folder, which was a blast from the past, but it seems I won't be able to deliver any result on this one.

How you gonna have me googling allat?! 😮 Thanks though. I like that kinda Shit 👌🏻 😂
If there's a whole subreddit for this and they've got nothing I don't think it's gonna be easy
I don’t think it’s gonna be POSSIBLE 😮
Its a bummer that we still haven’t found any leads towards the image but i know that one day the image will be found and it will be trending on all platforms, the image will be truly historic
Honestly if the original image was from a camsite, I really doubt it'll ever be found, it was probably a screenshot taken at the moment 😊
@John Doe hell I wouldn't be surprised if they just saved over the original one when they edited it
@@devilord3271 Yeah, I honestly believe there's a better chance of finding Jimmy Hoffa's body.

As an update for everyone, the Mutahar video is now 8 months old, and the original image has still not been found.
People have been trying to find the original image for well over a decade.
As someone who’s been a creepypasta fan since I was nine, if this gets solved I’m going to feel entirely fulfilled
And whoever solves it will get their wallet entirely fulfilled lol
@@ScareTheater actually insane you responded to me what the fuck. love ur content bro, always interested in what you have to say 💪💪 let’s hope someone cracks the case relatively soon.
This is really intriguing! It's surreal to think that the meme, stock jumpscare image that was all over Roblox 6 or 7 years ago, has so much history and depth, and people are so passionately searching for a source!
Not who I was expecting to take Myra’s offer up but honestly I’m loving it
I don't know who Myra is, but he sounds like a cool guy
Mythra from Xenoblade, I guess

Dude! Thanks for wasting my time 👍🎉 I even decided not to skip through the video out of respect
BET, I CAN FIND IT RIGHT NOW

If there is a man that can find the image, it's this guy. ScareTheater is the only man capable of debunking any internet mystery.
awww i was really hoping you had found it. you deserve 10k. dont give up. you can do it!
*DING!*
And we now have Eric Wise as a contender for the 10k. Glad to see you back, still strong, and even interacting with the current RUclipsr community. Keep doing you, man :)
and purchase a firearm. I'm concerned for every journalist's health and safety.

Yeah, the government is covering up Jeff the Killer
What’s he need a gun for
what he need the gun for
What he need the gun for
You sound so much more confident and comfortable being yourself. I'm loving the personal touches that make it feel fresh and unique
happy 1 years to this epic video
Jeff The Killer, from a simpler time in creepypasta. The image still does spook me, honestly.
The image is way creepier than the actual story 😂
the story is like shit compared to the photo and that’s so damn funny to me
Didn’t expect to be clickbaited like this by scaretheater :/
Scaretheater & SOG were the 2 go-to RUclipsrs for creepypasta content back in the day. Nice to see them both helping with this endeavor!
Maybe the real $10,000 was the friends we made along the way.
Here's an idea, what if there is no such thing as an original photo. The image it's self looks like it could be something that was photo bashed together.
"must've been one hell of a rope"

bro you so gangstah!! that you actually brought me ''that chapter'' for the first time ever! back when he had 200+ subs i think
I remember reading in a discussion about it back then (~2011-2012) that it was just an edit of the (also popular at the time) Overly Obsessed Girlfriend meme. You can definitely see the similarities.
But man, that sure takes me back.
Actually that was the last thing I ever heard about it’s origin too lmao
seeing the orie chef picture again legit made my heart sink all over again 😭😭😭fuck that image aghhh
I know that call with Muta was fake, but damn, I got secondhand heartbreak :(
If there's an entire subreddit devoted to figuring this out and they haven't come close to generating any solid leads... short of the person who took the original selfie coming forward... I highly doubt this one will ever be solved. Those basement investigator dorks on Reddit don't f*ck around when it comes to solving dumb and/or mundane mysteries.
Bruh I was so hyped during the entire video like YES MY BOY KNOCK EM DEAD. And even though you didn't find it, I still enjoyed the ride
What's crazy is that I have always been 1 trillion% certain that I have seen the original image before on a forum discussing it, but it's been so long I have no clue where or when anymore. Maybe on the old haunted Majora's Mask cartridge ARG forum?
I think it's the Natchi image. It looks most similar to the original edit and was shared on the same site only mere days before.
I'd recommend a video Lazy Masquerade made. All I know its that the earliest version of it was from the Japanese "Make me Cute" challenge.
Well that was a complete waste of time and patience
I think people are missing the fact that the image doesn’t have to an “origin”. This image could’ve been taken from a family photo album and edited. If that’s the case, the only image you would be left with, is the least edited one mentioned in the video. To find the “ORIGINAL” original, you would have to find the offline photo, which is impossible. Even if someone comes forward and says “yup this is the original”, how would you be able to believe them?
Honestly, the image labeled "Natchi" actually looks like it very well could be a fit for the original image. The same face shape, same hair, even the backgrounds look a bit different.
Let’s just go to every single Japanese persons house and check all the drawers and see if the picture is there
There's a post on the reddit that got my attention titled, "added the mr potatos eyes and someones mouth into the image and they match" The OP clearly found the exact image of the eyes and mouth yet refuses to elaborate further + not giving sources. The mouth is literally the *exact same.* I feel like this guy knows somethin' about this that we don't.
“He lost interest in the conversation” gee, I wonder why… maybe if you mentioned there’s potentially 10 stacks on the line he would’ve been more cooperative 🤨
Or he would have withheld information to have an edge in getting the $10k (now $11k)
Too bad OG Photobucket is dead. Would've found it by now.
It's unlikely they would still have the source imagine, meaning that all that's left is the reposted Photoshops
out of all creepy pasta images jeff the killer has always genuinely scared me even to this day lol
Granted, I was an adult when I first saw it, but I've never found it anything but silly looking.
Fr shit had me shitting bricks as soon as it met my eyes as a kid
For real, even when I've drilled the fact that it's fake into my brain it's still offputting.
The rake and smieldog are scary ngl
Aw man he didn't need to react at you like that you got deep into this case nothing to be ashamed of in fact kudos to you i hope you eventually find the source of the image bc 11k is alotta loot. 💰
i think it's not a real call

And Muta's laugh, effin jumpscared me 😂
Dude the call with Muta 🤣😂 nice work though, the video was not a letdown
10:28 THAT'S THE SAME BACKGROUND! she has the same mouth too, she's 100% the origin
At this point trying to find it is like finding the one piece
*THE ONE PIECE IS REALLL!!!*
P.s. I’ve been watching since 2015 it’s crazy I grew up watching your videos so thanks for all the memories and great content over the years
The lore of the image is more interesting than the creepypasta itself.
The photo comes from an old Japanese webcam stream where there’s a woman near the camera hiding inside her closet filming a blog then people started to make fun of her looks then the images where later taken down off the site 4chan later made a thing to photoshop her to make her look creepy
Spoiler alert: he didn't find it
I watched this channel almost religiously when I was a kit. I'm now entering university, and I'm glad to be back. I remember when you were still pretty reserved with your content, but I gotta say, im liking Scare Daddy a lot more
"MUST HAVE BEEN ONE HELL OF A STRONG ROPE" 💀💀💀💀💀
its so wild that this picture STILLL makes me jump to this day. every other spooky meme image has loooooong since lost its punch but jtk still gets me every time i see it
I was always fascinated by the origins of this image.
NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE YOU DESERVE TO SUFFER YOU DESERVE TO SUFFER YOU DESERVE TO SUFFER
You can't be serious psychosis?
Stay off the internet mate
Great effort Scare! And thank you for making this and adding a thousand to the prize pool! Having these summaries of what we know up until now will always be useful for those new to the investigation!
Honestly we probably won't find it. A lot of old internet pictures are gone now and the original was shopped to hell yet only 3 variants existed in 2005 so it likely wasn't as big a meme. It's probably gone forever.
Never meet your heroes, Scaretheatre.
This is like 2 world's colliding - two of my favourite colliding and it only makes sense that Eric would attempt this.
been here since 10k. so glad youre back and i’m loving the new laid-back-but-informative style you got going on!
I appreciate that!
I do appreciate how you are enjoying the content you make. I hope you read this and hope you know it’s really nice.
Thank you!
Hell yeah Scare daddy been following you for like 5 years or more good to see you claim the hold!
That phone call is almost worth you not finding the image. 😂
Be back with an update.
godspeed
please get back to us 🙏🙏 if you have any issues with the data i'm sure the originaljtk subreddit can help
Sad news, I could not find the picture I was searching for. Turns out I even had a 4chan folder, which was a blast from the past, but it seems I won't be able to deliver any result on this one.
