The only thing you can expect from Nightwish is the unexpected...they are very versatile and no two songs really sound the same. As others have said, their live material his where they really shine...incredible live band. I'd suggest anything from their Wacken 2013 show to get started.

You checked out the two newest songs from them, which are indeed different from what they did in the past. Actually, they already gave a whole variety of styles to us throughout the years. You definitely have to listen to the older stuff as well - especially the live versions.

Nightwish is definitely a live band, but their videos aren't bad either, on the contrary. The scale they play is really wide, starting with power metal.. no, I won't spoil the surprise. you should listen and find those diamonds yourself. As you mentioned earlier that you like to go heavier, so do I. It's not easy to choose which song to suggest to you, when they have so many good ones and you can't find any bad ones. Romantiside is one, Song to myself is another and thirdly I choose Devil and the deep dark ocean. at least close to a hundred more songs are still waiting, but these are currently the top 10 on my list. yes, it's nice to follow your journey to the rhythm of this band's music and thank you for sharing your journey with us. I am convinced that he will continue at some point, and then all the recommendations received from the fans will count, including those from the lists I promote in my YT channel.

Because about 2 years ago YT blocked me to post messages twice for several days each time, I made this change, and posted all the links to videos in 2 messages in the "Community" tab of the main channel.
A bit of a new way to go for Nightwish, with the children choir, having as much singing time as Floor almost i belive, Floor is doing some fast phrasing here to, something like she does in the song Shoemaker, kind off i think. The Ill starred kids of your junkyard thats us humans right, People today are getting told all kind of doomsday things, AI and war will end the world, but this song says, the end is fear, its not near, armagedon aint coming tommrow, so life your life, hide the unshot guns doomsday predictors tell is gonna blast. Also notice that Floor joins the kids choir at end and connect that to her charecter she is in video, she realize something during video, Toumas said so in a interview i watched.. I didnt read the book 1984 written by George Orwell, but the song got reference to that book i belive. At first listen i needed another listen, at 3th listen the song got me, and i started like the children choir, i actually think its a pretty good song, and something not heard like this from NW before, now i listened to the song many times! This is not a Empuu shine song, there is heavy guitar rhytm in the middle section and end, but not the big Empuu solo, but i also think this song dosent need it, because the Children choir takes spotlight instead,.. The title the day off.. is missing telling what its the day off, so i think this is where you can put in the optimistic view of the song, as a listener, if you like to, and hear the song that way, the listener decide what its the day off. The original idea was this one to be 1st single, because it was a diffrent sound from NW people told Tuomas, this have to be a single, but then Tuomas decided it should be Perfume of the timelees, and this 2nd.

Hi there. What do I think of the two new singles from the forthcoming album? I have to admit, it'll take a while to adjust to for me. I started my Nightwish journey at the Waken 2013 Nightwish Concert videos. I was absolutely hooked. As another has said, this is different to their past work. If you look at Gabriels list, and pick a few from there (no need to start at the top), you'll get to hear a different sound. Though, to be fair, you'll find most people enjoy their live performances the most, and after looking at a few of these, I think you'll find out why. I've subscribed in the hope that you continue down this rabbit hole. Kind Regards from the UK.
