- Then And Now Cast of the wonderful 1979-1981 kids tv series Worzel Gummidge.
Sadly half have gone to the better place.
Other cast members included Colonel Bloodstock (Thorley Walters) Harry (Denis Gilmore) And Pc Parsons (Norman Mitchell) Развлечения
Happy days from my childhood, just wish i could go back..
same mate . life has just flown by.
Snap.
Ditto, life seemed so simple back then...?
me too...someone build a time travel capsule before its too late for me ha ha
I used to watch this as a child. It brings back memories. Time flys by.
Really sad that most of the cast have now passed away.
The memories of Worzel and Aunt Sally and the crow man are still wonderful.
This was a magical TV series, in the day, and was so original too.
Classics aren't made like this anymore.👍🙏
Yesss so true!!👌👍
With Geoffrey Bayldon passing in 2017, just about all of the cast from Catweazle have gone, apart from one young lad in the second series, who also played Peter in The Railway Children.
Even Robin Davies who played young Carrot in S1 died quite early.
At least some of the Worzel series are still with us anyway.......
We were lucky it was made in an innocent way at a time when the world wasn't so great around us, but we could escape to this beautiful idyllic setting for 30mins and pretend our school homework wasn't in the bag, but the smell of a Sunday Roast was wafting through the house 😉
@@andrewphippsphillips1455
Yes, Andrew as you say, apart from the young lad nearly all of the cast have gone from Catweazle.
And very true with what you say when we could escape everything for 30 mins, and forget about what was happening around us and elsewhere. 😊
I laughed when you mentioned the Sunday roast, because that was so true... how nostalgic.
Bring back those days anytime, best era by far, as we were so lucky to have grown up in such a fabulous time.
Great memories, wished we could go back in a time warp. 👍😎
Bruce Lee I’m now 46 and treated myself to the box set 10 years ago,I find it as funny today as I did all those years ago as a child,I have even got my grandson hooked on it 🤪
@@jasonclarke7422
Wow, thats brilliant, I'm now looking to buy the box set myself for my almost 3 year old daughter. Well its good that I can say its for her.. 😆
I'm sure it won't take much persuading me to watch it with her..👍😂
I loved this show when I was a child. Didn't realise half of that cast was in it! Great memories.... oh I miss those days. - when the world seemed a nicer place to live. Please someone build a time machine and take me back to the 70's/80's.
What a fantastic show and a timeless joy to watch today. Jon Pertwee was the best, no one can top that. Great memories.
I agree
Quality cast and quality escapism. Death of Charlotte Coleman from being on her own with an asthma attack, such a tragedy.
I was just about to search what happened to her. I'm shocked
She played Marmalade Atkins.
Is that what happened?...wow man, that's horrendous, I wondered why she'd died so young still when watching this video....
Yep. An absolute tragedy. Such a talented actress. I think she died shortly after filming Four Weddings and a Funeral.
I had actually forgotten how many amazing British character actors performed in this wonderful show . They were some of our best that we actually , in a way grew up with them . I was lucky enough to get Una Stubbs autograph when WG played in the west end , she was delightful , now sadly , passed away .
This show was wonderful. It was a classic and the new version just couldn’t compare with it but it was still good and enjoyable. One of the best shows ever!
Im a 50 year old man, with a few tears in my eyes watching this. Dont tell anyone though!
😊its ok 👌👍
must confess ... me too :-)
Jon Pertwee best in the business
@@johnfitzpatrick4635 Let's hope he's having "A nice cuppa tea and a slice 'a' cake" up there.
I’m exactly the same. Such memories. Charlotte Coleman, such a tragedy
So many great British actors and actresses in the series ! Kids don't get television as good as this today. ☺️👍
I didn't realise that so many British Stars had appeared in the show. Sad that so many have left us and now, two years since the video was posted, even more have moved on to their dressing room in the sky. RIP, thank you for all the years of entertainment!
When you watch back episodes of this the one thing that stands out is the quality of the acting, truly superb.
I didn't realise how many famous performers were in this show.
I was thinking the same thing! Quite a few familiar faces that I didn't even realise!
I didn't realise how many of those famous performers were dead.
Same here. Especially Billy Connolly was a total shocker.
Same. Only ones that enter my head were Worxrl Gummidge, Aunt Sally, Crowman, the braithwaites and their kids. After watching this the other characters came flooding back,
How about minder ? I think just about every English actor has appeared in that 😂
I still watch Worzel Gummige on DVD! sad most of the cast has died :( how time flies 👌
that's what i say to my kids.how do you know when you're getting old all your childhood heroes start popping off
Sadly now also gone are Saucy Nancy/Barbara Windsor, and today Aunt Sally/Una Stubbs 1937 - 2021
Wonderful stories , wonderful characters. No one else could have been Worzel except Jon Pertwee , absolute magic ❤
👏👏👍
I met Jon Pertwee at the opening of a night club in Southampton. I was manager of a local band that was supporting his act. He was so funny our sax player could not play a note. During the interval we all trooped off to a room upstairs with Jon. We asked him of all the things he had done what was the most fun. He said without hesitation Worzel Gummidge.
yes i can imagine great stuff
Jon Pertwee at his very best, and with a talented cast starring alongside him. Very sad to see so many have now passed away, I have happy memories of the original television series.
Loved watching this . Did not realize it had such a A list cast !
It's so good!
It was one of those programmes everyone wanted to appear in.
I remember very well the time that Jon Pertwee came dressed as Worzel Gummidge to turn on the Christmas lights in my home town of Warrington C1983. He was extremely tall and his costume, complete with straw etc, was truly outstanding. He remained in character throughout. I will never forget it. Thankyou Jon.
.
Nice one Jason, yess he certainly was a bit extraordinary
Great kids TV in the day and a wonderful cast. I never knew all those great actors/actresses appeared in this wonderful series.
Yes surprising! 👍
No, neither did I, a real star studded cast when you look at it, plus that also tells you how popular it was to attract all of those actors and actresses. 👍😎
@#CHOOSELIFENOTAKNIFE 🙏
@#CHOOSELIFENOTAKNIFE very fond -memories of another time, it seems that went so quick . the crow-man Geoffrey Bayldon he played cat-weazle that was wonderful too in its own way.
This program makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside 💓 I’ve actually started collecting memorabilia, as it’s a time that I think most of us wish we could go back to .. 💓 I’ve been to the field and Stockbridge twice this year- such a beautiful place .. you almost expect them to see them all walking down the street .. excellent video as always thanks 🙏
Thanks karen! Yes its a real nice part of the world! Im a hampshire lad so im a bit biased :)
The amount of well known people in it was a surprise. I haven’t seen it since the early 80s
yes lots of gifted actors
I love this how with all my heart and always will. Brings back so much happy memories of home, love and my mum.
nice one mate
Sunday tea time must, Great memories of my childhood, thanks for uploading. Kind regards Mike
Welcome mike
Absolutely loved this, still do, R.I.P. to all the cast who are no longer with us ❤
This was Jon pertwees love, he WAS Wurzel...no point trying to redo the impossible...
The new Worzel isn't a remake of the TV series, it's an adaptation of the books. It's a different thing.
I recon Mackenzie Crook did a very good job of it too.
@@the1after909 👏
He was the ONLY real Dr Who too
@@Urko2005 Blasphemy! Lol
Full of English charm that's sadly gone.
its still around 😊x
yes real english charm magic it had , that is such a rare thing these days now
BRITISH charm.
@@revengenerd1 English.
@@dbdb9334 And you know all the cast and crew are English? Even then humour in Britain is mostly the same hence why we have channels like the BBC.
This show will always have a place in my heart❤️ I absolutely adore it, and still watch it today☺️
It's so sad that many of the cast are no longer with us. RIP
Sadly a few more of them have passed away since this. A massive shock to find out about Charlotte Coleman 33 not an age to pass. However, I watched the show as a child, but did not realise there were so many characters. However, this show had a who's who of the British acting World. I doubt very much that you would get a TV show that has such massive names as this ever again.
I remember this with great fondness .
As a kid this was all I wanted from boring Sundays back i the day ..... & I miss those days .
I think I will just put my sad head on for a while .
Lets hope one day they will remaster the show which is truly deserves.
Was like a who's who of British comedy actors of the era. Brilliant.
When it was announced that Southern Television, the makers of Worzel Gummidge, had lost their ITV franchise, I can clearly remember the headline in a newspaper of the time saying ...
NO MORE WORZEL
@airscrew1 TVS didn't keep it going. In fact the last episode of the original series made by Southern TV was shown about 3 weeks before TVS began broadcasting. The original series however was rerun on Channel 4 in the late 1980's and there was also a follow up series made in New Zealand called 'Worzel Gummidge Down Under' that was shown here.
yess i remember that to
Wish there were time machines.. watching this was like remembering things in a past life and I'm 50...
Cracking programme! Wish they’d show it again. Sadly most of cast passed away.
oh the memories of watching this TV will never be the same again
So many fine actors appeared in Worzel Gummidge, a testament to what a quality show it was.
I was born in 73 so was only 6when this was first show. ..but ican still remember watching it. Even the very first episode when he talked for the first time it scared the shit out of me!! I can also remember even at that young age having crush on suzy. The actress also went on to play marmalade Atkins. I had a crush on her too in that but did not realise it was the same actress untill a few months ago. Sadly she passed away years ago of a huge asthma attack while alone at home.
She also played Scarlett in Four Weddings And A Funeral and Jess in Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. A very talented actress taken far too soon.
@@SpeccyMan aww yes I just did a Google search on her and she went on to do alot of film and tv.!! For some reason I thought she retired early and did not so anything after marmalade Atkins ??? I also thought she died even younger then she actually did ...but yes still way to soon
One of the very best telly programmes ever. We had it good growing up in the 70s/80s
Yesss when you watch it back its actually quite brilliant
Cornish Watch Reviews we were blessed as kids, can you imagine what it’s like for kids these days ☹️

Loved watching this as a kid. late Sunday afternoons. 🇬🇧
I swear to god that earlier today I was going to have a cup of tea and a slice of cake and my mum was in the kitchen and she asked me what I was having and I replied"a worzel gummage"and she said what's that so I explained the cup of tea and a slice of cake joke and she chuckled and now an hour later I'm here on RUclips and this comes up in my recommendations! I really believe that they listen in to our conversations and no I'm not a paranoid loony infact this happens quite regularly to me. STRANGE EH??!!
Hee hee yesssss
A cup of tea and a slice of cake aunt sally
Tickle me chin with a stick of rhubarb, how did you manage that 😊
...and a NICE slice of cake. 😊
I still, to this day, use that expression, with appropriate accents of course!
l cant say ...A cup of tea and a slice of cake without sounding like wurzel :-)
@@beverleydeeming4427 haha
Another crazy classic!
yes mate
Brought back some happy memories. I didn't realise that nearly all of the cast have about gone.
I'm nearly 55 and I could still sit down now and watch all of the series.
I might just do that !! Lol..😎👍👍
😊👌👍
Double deckers still going I had one today! 😊 Catweazle was good!
Surprising to see so many I remember more from the Carry on movies here, RIP Bernard now as well, I barely remember the show itself it was so long ago.
I'm 60 now and recently bought the DVD, loved every minute of it, can't wait till my grandson is old enough to enjoy it with me.
Hope you enjoy it!
Damn I know I am getting old when most of these have already gone.
WOW! What an all-star cast. I didn't realise at the time (it was one of my absolute favourite shows) how many ridiculously famous people were in it. Just brilliant. Thanks for posting 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! your welcome🙏
Loved this show as a kid ...so nostalgic
💕
I miss these sort of programs they were such fun and so innocent 😔
Thanks for posting this. My dad was the cameraman on the series until it went to Australia. It was great to see all the places I remember from having spent time on set...so many happy memories :)
Very cool mate
great memories brought back, forgot what stars were in it,and lost most of them
I think the crowman would knock worzels head off when he got cheeky? I recall an episode where aunt sally was stuffing her face with loads of cream cakes. She would scoop jam out of the jar with her fingers.
Haha yes Aunt Sally was so graceful til she saw cream cakes n u were right about Worzels head - oh my days id forgotten that bit!!!
Loved the show..it was perfection..cast and crew.
Yes it was!
I can remember watching this as a little girl. Lovely show and character's, Worzel was my favourite ♥️.
I wasn't even a kid when this was on TV and loved it. I couldn't watch the new version we had on TV 2019. . Cant replace John Pertwee he nailed the character, such a shame Charlotte Coleman died, so young remember her in Four Weddings and a Funeral
Loved Worzel Gummidge as a kid,Jon Pertwee came 2 a local fair dressed as the character and was riding a mini motorbike, got a photo of him somewhere..
Ah thats great!!👍👌
I loved this as a kid without fail I watched it I even bought the whole dvd box set for my own kids to watch it they loved it to
😊 thats great! 👍
Haha was it for you or your kids tho?? Be honest lol I tried that old trick about 15 years ago when a bought tbe whole boxsets of my fav 80s cartoon dungeons and dragons.....for my little brothers tho of course lol
donnn 0666 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you guessed right I just loved it the kid in me I just didn’t want to say 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@laneyspangle4474 haha like I said I did the same thing !! Anf i am sure we are not alone!! I was born in 73 so was only 6 to 8 when watching this! I remember loving it but also finding it a bit scary!! I think it used to be on a Sunday afternoon. I also remember it had sad elements to it to. Aunt sally was actually quite nasty and crule to worrzel. !! Did you still find that when watching it as a adult or was that just me as a child? I would actually love to watch them again!! Lol
donnn 0666 🤣🤣🤣🤣 me time watched on Sunday afternoon to now that you mentioned it lol I’m going to watch Sunday night wen I finish work lol it brings back memories lol like you said we are not on our own
I absolutely adored Wurzel Gummidge back in the early 80s. It's a shame they don't make them like that any more. I loved Wurzel's phrase " I'll just have a cup of tea and a slice of cake".
Wow, some of these guys were already almost at the end of their life, even back then !
Shed more than a few tears the day Charlotte died, especially sad the way it happened.
Great work Mark, these videos bring happy memories and they must have been a lot of work to produce; all the research and especially getting the shot angles right for the location videos.
🏆🏆🏆
welcome mate
I don't know why but Worzel Gummidge absolutely freaked me out as a child. As in nightmares. Even now as an adult still get spooked (this was morbid curiosity). Another one was Frank Sidebottom.
yes 😊 great writing and it worked to
What an extraordinary cast !!
👌👍
Oh yay ! Another of your amazing videos 💓
I went to ten acre field last Monday and it was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time! I also saw most of the other sites used for the show and it was actually because of your videos that we found a lot of it! So thanks very much .. keep them coming! Love a bit of Worzel 👏🙏💓
💕thanks karen! 👌👌👍
Just brings back great memories when I was about 11 onwards great show watch every week without fail even my parents watched it .what a cast it is a shame all nearly dead now. Where are all the repeats something you don't see you on TV
Loved this, never knew crow man was also catweazle.
Yess he was quite a big star in the 70/ 80s

wow I used to love this when I was a kid good old days when tv was great you would never get me away from the tv in those days I feel sorry now days its just crap on tv
Beautiful.

After watching the remake of Worzel Gummidge at Christmas 2019, it was nothing like the original John Pertwee ones, no comic scenes , and no changing heads, but no matter if or when, no remakes can beat the classics
Brings back my childhood memories of good days, thanks for loading this video

I introduced my kids to this 5 years ago..They loved it..Even visited the village where it was made....Hardly changed
nice one stevo
My childhood memories never missed an episode ..... those were the days !!!

i was about 7 or 8 when i wrote to Jim'll fix it for me to meet wurzel.......glad i didn't get a reply now....... (from saville not the great john pertwee)

My husband was lucky enough to meet Worzel Gummidge in all his glory at the Monsters of Rock festival in Derbyshire in the 80's.
@@emmylou4522 Are you sure it was Monsters of Rock? I also met 'Worzel' at the Donnington Park Motor Racing circuit but it was at the Honda festival, probably 1980 or 1981. Jon Pertwee was a keen motorcycle enthusiast so would readily attend, thoroughly enjoy himself and provide great entertainment in character as Worzel Gummidge.
