You’ll need to get a dedicated employee that sells only on eBay/Amazon and any other online selling you prefer but that position is vital as you need to create cash from your purchases, most people won’t tell you this but it’s vital for this type of business

@@bradleydunlop1615 no most store owners hope they can sell it in store but the reality is about 33% of your trades sell in store within a year unless it’s current gen titles while the other 66% sit on a shelf.Believe it or not most businesses like this don’t make a singular employee do this because of cost or the thought that they will do it themselves to save money and pay themselves, many times store owners never receive a paycheck unless they have an online sales dept which is what keeps you in this game,it’s fun and cool to get old stuff in but as an adult you still have to feed your family so it’s best to hire a part or full time individual with the skill to list at least 25 less able items per day so 175 pieces per week, some will sell and others will wait till the 4th quarter to sell because of Christmas but they will sell eventually.

Owning and running a business can have its ups and downs, but don't get too discouraged. You've accomplished what some of us can only dream of (owning a game/retro toy store)! As some have mentioned, maybe consider the following to help you and your amazing team:
-Reduce Inventory: Don't buy more new items or accept too many trade-ins until a good amount of stock is sold. Start setting some monthly/quarterly sales goals to help gauge when to buy new items/accept more trade-ins.
    - Set guidelines or a limit on trade-ins: It's great to see the amazing retro stuff on the channel, but too much of it at once can increase inventory which can be a bad thing in the long run if it sits on the shelf for months. Perhaps, get Riff and Ricky to buy some of that excess inventory😊.
-Establish an online store: Many of your fans like me don't live near your beloved Arkansas, but I definitely would buy stuff from your store online if we could!
-Don't overwork whether it's with the store or your RUclips channels: There's always going to be some unfinished work at the end of the day, but know when to stop and go home to rest and recharge. Life is short, and there's only 24 hours in a day. Make time to care for yourself and your family. You already work so much to bring joy and nostalgia feels to your fans with your retro finds on a weekly basis, so you deserve some "Me" time.

@Jeff Hoon I appreciate the reply. I'm about the same age as Retro Rick and can relate to being stressed when life gets hectic. Losing both my parents, losing my job, getting taken advantage of by incompetent home contractors, and having a health scare are just some chaotic moments I experienced in just the last few years. Realizing the stress is there, praying, and seeking professional help to process my emotions, plus having support and care from my siblings and friends, helped me persevere through those difficult times.
I'm sure things are stressful for Rick as owning a game/toy store plus keeping fresh content on both channels is definitely not an easy task. So, I posted the comment so that Rick (and others who may be feeling stressed out in life right now) can make sure to take time out of your busy days to care for yourself. Whether it's just taking a much needed vacation or seeking professional health to restore one's mental well-being is very important. It's helped me so far, so I figure to share.

You're going to have to cut the fat. You want to bring everything into the store and people are going to take advantage of that. You have a guy who has a booth and is bringing to you. To me that's a red flag cause it seems like he can't sell it in his place so he's dumping it on you. It's also going to cause a lot of disorder you should expand and make that the retro clothes, electronics etc if you wanna venture out to that kind of stuff. But you should leave it for the time being a strictly video game store. Or build a extra floor at the very least for that certain stuff.

I think you are taking the right approach. Switching Skylanders ($2.95) for the Amibos (estimated $25 to $300 or more) will make more money. Taking out board games or reducing their footprint is smart. Vintage toys have a higher margin and sell better. Open up the back storeroom of your store for periodic sales to VIP customers. Have a parking lot sale. Sell spaces to other vendors who sell vintage. Are you wanting more space for things like Skylanders?

A place where they can get rid of their stuff tk get some cash or get something new. The last store where I live the owner told me they just got more trade ins tham sales. People purchased with the store credit. So basically the inventory keeps growing and growing and very little sales.

That was my thought. Didn’t he mention he looked at their financials before buying the store though. But even then seeing all the retro stuff he buys worries me. I hope he’s getting great deals because if a guy with a booth can’t sell the items then how will Rick sell it?

@@jngx80 I really hope he hired an attorney to help him with the purchase. My wife and I gave up tryin to buy a Hair Salon after a couple of YEARS looking. All of the sellers lie about their business. All of them hide information that may sway a buyer. And half of them will present "cooked books," which is illegal but hey, who cares? If you're making a such a major purchase based on "feels," you're in for it. My gut tells me the previous owners were hiding something as well. Remember the sellers NEVER fully disclose.

Bro one of my favorite channels is double jump video games ran by Cooper and his girlfriend Abby. He has a massive collection and the game store. He also runs a website and talks about how much business he gets for it. So that's also a thought. Not sure if you already have one. But it gives people like me up here in Wisconsin an opportunity to support you guys.

There are tough decisions to be made as a store owner. You can't keep things on display that do not sell. I had this problem at one point when flipping games, you just have to give stuff up. Even if you will lose money, defragging your brain and your inventory is all part of it.

There is some great suggestions in the comments, I also think maybe you should look at either updating your CRM or really learning it so your intake is faster. If that isn't a bottle neck then maybe bring on someone just to research and price things out through the day for like 4 hrs while ya'll are working and you can catch up quick doing that.

even im stressing out just by seeing all that stuff on the floor. feel like people are going over to your store because of your trade in credit being on the high side. id say lower the credit store a bit so you can just have time to process things and don't overwhelm your workers. If resellers are getting their stuff to the dollar they should be fine taking a bit less if they don't feel like putting in the work.

Game Point's Trade-in Value has been higher than the other stores(A gamestop and game-x-change) in town. This is true. Their prices were usually on-par or better than the Game-X-Change as well.

I don't say this out of hate or anything like that, but this store is starting to feel like a jack of all trades and master of none. I think you should focus on 2-3 products max, but it's your call obviously. I'm just saying that Gamestop kind of died when they started branching away from video games and every time I go in there; I see more toys than I see video games. Not for me personally.

I really like that you go into the biz as a collector. I know someone who has thier spot in the swap meet but is struggling to make ends meet bc of how much trade in stuff they get. I would say it’s cool to get stuff for credit but if you trade stuff that no one is really looking for, then you’ll get left with the stuff that doesn’t need to be in the store. Unfortunately, the owner of the store is not in the best of health and is willing to sell the spot, with 2-3 storage unit and whatever he has in his basement storage for about at least 6 figures. Which is a tough sell even if he does give the list of customers that have layaway orders. He did ask me what I thought about it but 6 figures is a lot lol. Just some advice from someone who knows a person with a game store.
