He plays an 8 string in the same way I would imagine a scared 45+ dad would play one if he never played metal but wanted to impress his son's mates......
i like paul for the guitar reviews, but i think we need a dedicated 7 and 8 string guy. anything with 6 strings paul is great. but for something with such an extended range we need someone that can give a more detailed demo playing wise in that lower register.
I feel like GW could do a lot more with these videos. What's the neck profile like? How's the weight and balance? Is it comfortable? Is the bridge easy to use? What are a few of the other options a potential Carvin customer could ask for? I mean, if we just want to hear someone noodling around on x guitar, RUclips usually does the job and there are plenty of guys who can demo an 8-string better than Paul.
+chiefmachine24 I know, but the video doesn't really add much of anything to it. It'd be nice to see a complimentary video review like you see at video games sites.
Mike Doolittle That would be nice, but the thing is they need to bring traffic into their own website. Maybe if GW had their own video player they could do more in depth reviews on their own site.
All i get from guitar worlds guitar demos is that the guitars are real, what they look like, and that they will work when you plug them, after that I don't get much else lol
+DMSProduktions how about fit and finish? manufacturers set up? tones other than crunchy blues we see in every video? weight, balance, tendency to neck dive, comfortability while playing? first impressions out of the box? options and non standard features? things any guitar review should have?! c'mon man.
+1097jad you could put a slap of wood next to the nut and make it looks like a head. Though it won't serve any purpose than adding weight to the neck. Personally i like the headless when i need to travel. It's small and light. The one i have is not in this shape however.
+Wutipong Wongsakuldej ya and you can hardly get neck breaks from falling, and also it won't go out of tune cause there's no tuners on the headstock to get hit while putting it horizontally. I don't like how this looks but some Strandberg do look killer
I have a feeling GW deliberately attempts to sabotage their reviews of Carvin gear with poor production/playing in order to keep their readership oriented toward their preferred brands: Fender, Gibson, PRS, etc
Yoo, How is Paul still doing reviews?! He's been doing the same boring Jazz rock demo on EVERY GUITAR for the past 15 years and his tone always sucks. Who okays this?
Dude always sounds like he's playing a guitar with the neck pickup flipped on. No matter if its 6, 7 or 8 strings he always has this super flat tone with no impact. He's clearly not a metal guy, yet keeps reviewing gear designed around metal players. I don't know who's butt Paul has kissed this many years, but its quite odd how he's had such a monopoly on all these "reviews".
You guys realize that Strandberg didn't invent headless guitars right? They may have popularized the concept of headless guitars over the last few years (mainly because of the artists that are endorsing them) but to call any headless guitar a "wannabe" Strandberg is asinine.
Reviews? Where is there any review of any piece of anything taking place? These are paid for clips of new gear provided by the companies wanting specialized advertising. When is an objective breakdown of the materials used or performance of the piece given? Never. "Check out this new piece of gear." Advertising! Plus, this guy can't play guitar to save his life. That's just a fact.
hahahahaha...I love all the haters up in arms because "Paul has a bad tone and doesn't know how to pay an 8 string guitar". first off is an 8 string guitar. there is no " good " tone to be had on one of these things and the only playing to speak of is some dissonant crap that has neither melody or structure. but to each their own I guess.
+Wayne Lefevers Complete ignorance. There are plenty of guitarists who are playing amazing melodic stuff with 8 string guitars, especially if you look outside of the black hole of crap tones that is Djent
He plays an 8 string in the same way I would imagine a scared 45+ dad would play one if he never played metal but wanted to impress his son's mates......

+vasilios1994 Tosin Abasi?
+vasilios1994 Fredrik Thordendal would be so awesome a reviewer
+vasilios1994 MRW i know the commenter. :P
like one djent guitarist haha
Omar F yooooo Omar
I feel like GW could do a lot more with these videos. What's the neck profile like? How's the weight and balance? Is it comfortable? Is the bridge easy to use? What are a few of the other options a potential Carvin customer could ask for?

+Mike Doolittle They do, if you looked at the
description it takes you to their website for the full review.
+chiefmachine24 I know, but the video doesn't really add much of anything to it. It'd be nice to see a complimentary video review like you see at video games sites.
Mike Doolittle
That would be nice, but the thing is they need to bring traffic into their own website. Maybe if GW had their own video player they could do more in depth reviews on their own site.
+Mike Doolittle I wish they would do honest and even negative reviews of gear as well. The review section reads like a free advertistment at times.
agreed!
man eight string is so last year, I have just purchased my new 25 string from "fuck me djently" guitars.
The guitar tone sounds like mud, like actual mud is on top of the speakers.
+Bradley Collins I agree there's no articulation
+sammy reynolds agree!
+Bradley Collins needs a TS808/9 in the mix to clean it up IMO
+Bradley Collins alot of this has to do with pauls tone
ive seen him make top notch gear sound like shit time and time again
All i get from guitar worlds guitar demos is that the guitars are real, what they look like, and that they will work when you plug them, after that I don't get much else lol
+Allen Harrison what MORE/ELSE DO you want?
+DMSProduktions tone, playability
A Sloth
THAT comes from you. These clips just show you that it works and how.
+DMSProduktions how about fit and finish? manufacturers set up? tones other than crunchy blues we see in every video? weight, balance, tendency to neck dive, comfortability while playing? first impressions out of the box? options and non standard features? things any guitar review should have?! c'mon man.
Sam Elling
Yeah, you're right, but with that you're looking @ a 10-15 min vid @ least!
Man, do you even like playing the guitar?
After all these years doing these types of videos has this guy ever had a decent tone?
Not in 15 years, no.
Paul's dad must own Guitar World. This is the only possibility that makes any sense.
I now actually am this guitar’s owner and it’s been an amazing piece to play! 10/10
I think my ears are out of tune?
I really like the options on that guitar. I haven't seen the antique finish before, but it looked really nice.
Here comes the Paul haters...dam too late
poor guitar 😞😞😞😞😳😳
hey it's paul from guitar world and today I'm gonna play some blues with this 8 string guitar.check this shitty sound out!
Good God I already know what this is going to sound like..
Paul doesn't djent
It's kind of cool, I remember the first time I saw headless guitars watching Bill and Ted as a kid. Love that movie...
This video is much like a guitarneck without a headstock: pointless.
It seems like the person doing the demo has never played an eight string. Not a diss, just an observation.
What's the tuning? It seems pointless. That aside I'm surprised some 'expert' isn't commenting the missing headstock is somehow impacting the "tone"
the one question that needed answering
does it djent?
please get someone else to do 7-8 string guitars
I can't get into the headless guitar hype
Yeah the headless is disgusting honestly, if it had a headstock it'd be beautiful with that body
+1097jad you could put a slap of wood next to the nut and make it looks like a head. Though it won't serve any purpose than adding weight to the neck.
Personally i like the headless when i need to travel. It's small and light. The one i have is not in this shape however.
I mean, I guess for traveling reason
One more benefit is it keeps the neck's weight down. You wouldn't get the neck drops like many Gibson SG do.
+Wutipong Wongsakuldej ya and you can hardly get neck breaks from falling, and also it won't go out of tune cause there's no tuners on the headstock to get hit while putting it horizontally.
I don't like how this looks but some Strandberg do look killer
If only Paul knew how to play an extended range instrument...
Is it a weapon, or an instrument?
Wow, this is bad. So so bad.
Pahl stahp!
This somehow sounds worse than carvin's demos
but does it djent?
Not here, apparently.
Lol typical paul. We love you bro
Lessons should follow. God bless
I'm sorry but Paul is pretty terrible when it comes to playing and reviewing extended range instruments.
I actually really liked the demo, some of those riffs were tasty as fuck
what its the tunning of this guitar
MUDDBUTT tuning
I get the feeling that Paul isn't all that comfortable using an 8 string... He sounds a bit more unsure of himself here.
Hi, I’m Paul and this is how I connect with the kids of tomorrow. Hold the eight string, play six strings, and if I touch the 7th or 8th, open
Nice demo, nice tones. Please please please do more Kiesel guitars, preferably 6 strings. :)
I have a feeling GW deliberately attempts to sabotage their reviews of Carvin gear with poor production/playing in order to keep their readership oriented toward their preferred brands: Fender, Gibson, PRS, etc
I dunno why but it just looks like it would be really heavy haha
sounds like a fart
good looking guitar, but ERGs and metal are not this guys thing,i have heard these sound much better.
he is fine with a 6 string.
Yoo, How is Paul still doing reviews?! He's been doing the same boring Jazz rock demo on EVERY GUITAR for the past 15 years and his tone always sucks. Who okays this?
Paul needs to git gud
That was the shittiest breakdown i have ever heard hahahah
Everytime you play an 8 String, i think it sounds like shit. Is this just me? lel
Not very helpful to me this review. Nice photography though.
Dude always sounds like he's playing a guitar with the neck pickup flipped on. No matter if its 6, 7 or 8 strings he always has this super flat tone with no impact. guitar its ok but the demo guy.... mmm his playing is just mad.
SORRY, THIS DEMO IS REALLY WEIRD...
Paul is a great player but sorry terrible on 8 string .
There's wannabe strandbergs already?
+A Sloth There's so many out
there it's getting ridiculous.
You guys realize that Strandberg didn't invent headless guitars right? They may have popularized the concept of headless guitars over the last few years (mainly because of the artists that are endorsing them) but to call any headless guitar a "wannabe" Strandberg is asinine.

guy
this guy should retire ..."in all its glory"
First off it's paul playing his typical shit which sounds horrible on an eight string...secondly, no head stock, no buy.
am i the only one who thinks these headless guitars are fucking ugly
I know this guitar is capable of other tones. This is a terrible demo. I'd like to see a do-over.
Oh, man! This review really sucks!
the guitar looks horrible, sounds horrible! yucck!
+Ankur Chakrabarti thats why you get a custom colour and not be paul from guitar world
Yikes
hahahahaha...I love all the haters up in arms because "Paul has a bad tone and doesn't know how to pay an 8 string guitar". first off is an 8 string guitar. there is no " good " tone to be had on one of these things and the only playing to speak of is some dissonant crap that has neither melody or structure. but to each their own I guess.
