Two things can be true. Deon may be a piece of work, but Sheridyn isn't really any better. Deon's loyalty lies with his dad. Sheridyn has told her mother she is financially responsible for her for life simply because she was born. She also uses her children as leverage to get what she wants. Based on Sheridyn's logic, she should be taking care of her own children, yet she puts that responsibility on Shirley. Shirley paid for her education and she has the father(s) of her children, yet Shirley is still keeping a roof over her head even when she didn't have one of her own. Shirley's comments weren't simply because she went down to the station, but because of all the things leading up to that. She doesn't even think Sheridyn loves her. Wouldn't even go see her sick father when he was in town. So although Deon may not be a "nice" kid, he probably treats Shirley better than her own child. At least he thinks enough of her to get her flowers.

They're from Georgia and there's a specific dialect just like people from other regions have different dialects (i.e. New Orleans, Oklahoma, St. Louis, New York, etc.). It's all English. Just listen through the twang. Although they're not really discussing much.

If I remember correctly, Shirley is busy making money and was trying to keep her business private while her life was also falling apart to support her husband. How many men would support a woman in jail after finding out about her side piece?
