The Robot struck a friendly chord with any young boy growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. He had an assuring voice, was a presence of comfort and safety and offered information about the mysteries of each episode. Almost a friend/Uncle combination.
I was 11 years old when Lost in Space started an Iam 70 now your show has taught me so much about Lost in Space a much appreciated thanks Brian from Northeast Ohio 👍👍👍
Love your posts. But the most impressive part of this story was finding out you made The Robut out of posterboard as a kid, and later recreated it as a young man. I love seeing maker stuff. Please share more of such talents, if you have more props! Great work! Great post!
Very cool. I stumbled into a privately own model shop in Mechanicsburg Pa. 30 years ago and was stunned to see an exact replica of this robot, in every detail. The owner of the store built it.
Glad so many of these props and items from our collective youths' TV and film memories are being preserved. Awkwardly written I guess, but your channel also helps keep these great memories alive. Thanks, Dan.
It was so many years ago that my parents (really my mom) got me a Lost in Space robot for Xmas, I’m thinking it was 1967, but it could have been the year before or after. I was maybe 7-8 at the time. One of the few gifts I actually remember, I wish I still had it. Who knew? The biggest thing going in the 60’s for me was comic books, I had a nice collection. 12 cents each, a giant size was a quarter. My dad threw them all out, I probably had a few treasures in there. It was the best time to be a kid, but we all grow up eventually. Really enjoying this content, I have to be the target viewer!
I remember that Starlog. It was heart breaking to see the Robot like that. (I too, thought it was the main Robot.) Learning that a lot of these old props, sets and costumes, are still around, lightens up my day. Also big fan of this channel, it's a lot of fun to watch.
Another Fantastic Voyage into the Fox FX history of "where are they now?" LOL. This was amazingly entertaining and insightful, as always! Fabulous restoration! Excellent documentary Dan! Absolutely too cool! You Rule! ✌️❤️🙂
Having been a kid in the 1950s I saw all of these sci fi TV shows .. your channel provides information to relive them including background info .. that’s really cool!!
I liked your homemade robot. I did the same thing, and my mom could not wait to through my cardboard creations in the trash. Good to see the stunt Robot had a happy ending.
I met Bob May at my first Megacon in Orlando. Didn't know the rules and Bob asked if I wanted a B9 robot I brought with me signed. After he signed he asked for $25 for the autograph. Didn't get any other signatures due to being broke. Also went to take a picture of June Lockhart from a distance and was called over to her table where she offered to sell a photo and would sign it. I walked away. She later went to the bathroom she covered her face with a scarf so her fans wouldn't bother her. All the "kids" and Major West sat at a long table together, still friends after all these years. I guess June and Bob didn't get along with the rest of the cast.
@robertmoore971 Hey, did you happen to go to Boone High School in Orlando, FL. between 1972-1976? I had a friend named Robert Moore in Sr. High and we were both sci-fi nuts.🤣🤣🤣
Dan, what a great deep dive! It never even occurred to me that they had a "stunt robot", although looking back I can see how it would be necessary. Any chance for a walk through the Science Fiction museum? A couple of quick comments of props would be enough, and you might call back memories of forgotten shows (which could lead to future deep dives). Thanks!
I truly enjoy your enthusiasm, Dan. Glad to see so many people care about the cultural legacy from our childhood. Don’t know how that will happen for present day science fiction when so much is done as CGI.
Mr. Monroe, sincerely, thank you very much for these vids. Without being creepy, it feels like, to this 5 year old boy watching the \lis pilot, that you're watching the same thing at the same time. Wow! It's not just imagry, it's the sense of continuity through time. Again, thank you. As an afterthought, though a HUGE subject himself), it the voice of the Robot, and the man who gave life to the Robot's entire personality: Dick Tufeld. I don't know about you, but when Tufeld voiced the Robot again, in the '98 film update with William Hurst and Garry Oldman. I just sat there and WEPT. It was like hearing the voice of a friend I hadn't seen since 1968.
Hey Colin :-) Thanks so much for the wonderful words. Dick Tufeld was a friend of mine. Every time he would call me it was so freaking weird because I was literally talking to the robot from Lost in Space lol.
Oh YES!!! Dan, every video is a blessing to this fan. The stunt B9 is as rare as a working Tiger I tank from WWII (only one at this time). So many props that have been destroyed is a crime, as far as I am concerned. I know that the studios didn't have much foresight, but still. Your videos keep them all alive, regardless of their current whereabouts. Again, thanks to RUclips for suggesting one of your earliest videos to me. All of them are precious to me and I come back often to see them again and again. Have a great week Dan!
Loooking at your video setup, a idea struck me. What if, instead of the very plain desk you're sitting at, you constructed one shaped like the one in the Dr. Morbius office of Forbidden Planet. How cool is that?
Another great video. And as always I usually learn something new. Thanks again for the memories. And I ordered a mug and received it rather quickly. Thanks so much
Thanks Dan, I read that Robert Kinoshita, in his earlier engineering years , designed "Washing machines"!!! so this is Why Robbie and B9 have those "TUB" looking main bodies??!!!!
Absolutely love your Channel been watching your videos of you every night this is one of the best RUclips channels go to I have found thank you for all your work you put into these and all the education and background you find all the little details as a monster sci-fi and horror fan since I was a little kid just like you and many I really can't thank you enough for doing these videos
Awesome video, Dan! How you take a topic like an old movie prop and make it into such a fascinating video is pure genius! I look forward to your videos every week. You are now my favorite RUclips channel! Keep up the great work! 👍👏👏👏
Another great video. The Robot has always been very cool. As kid 6-12, I loved LIS, but even as kid I truly disliked Dr. Smith and wanted The Robinsons family to drop him off on a planet, never to be seen again. I never got over the fact he used The Robot in an attempt to kill Will Robison early during the first season.
You Sir are a geek of the first order, and that is why I am here! Love your work. 🏆 Speaking as a restorer of medieval armour, for my taste this 'restoration' is way too bright. I completely understand the reasoning behind behind it, but for me it no longer represets the lovely naive original. Faultless work, and the end result is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, but it's original function is not so much 'Lost in Space', but more 'Buried somewhere underneath'. Or... perhaps this is just a new chapter in it's story, and that is what I will tell myself when I try to sleep tonight. But as you say, this has at least stopped the rot. Best wishes to you, long may you reign. 🇬🇧🤖🇺🇲
Wow Dan great video!!! Just like the original Jupiter 2, I find the B9 robot to be timeless. I wish the Netflix show would have incorporated more of the B9 into the robot. Thanks for keeping those memories alive!
Thanks Dan, for another great video on my favorite childhood show, Lost in Space! Thanks for sharing all the great info on all of our beloved sci-fi shows and gadgets! How cool is that?
Hey Dan, ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO! All are very enjoyable to watch. You have created a monster here on youtube. One day I'd like to shake your hand! THANKS!!!
Another great one Dan. Would like to know where the derelict space ship, also used in His majesty Smith ended up. As always great info and memories. Thanks Dan.
In your comment about restorations, I would have a 1.5. Just minimal restoration to stabilize the object. Minor fixes to cracks, broken supports, regluing stuff, etc. I should also hope that with any restoration that anything removed is stored and is always sold with the object, just in case a future restoration can use it.

I remember the first time I saw lost in space on TV in the UK when s4c/channel 4 ran the series in the early 80s The robot and Dr Smith were my favourite characters Thanks for another fascinating episode
They just opened a (hopefully) permanent installation called Sci-Fi World in the old Sears building in downtown Santa Monica. I haven't been to it yet, but it looks to include a lot of TV and movie props that will appeal to kids who grew up reading Famous Monsters, etc. Ticket price is not too bad either!
Please for the love of the Almighty if at all possible do one on "Whatever happened to Famous Monsters of Filmland?" or "to FJA?" or "to the Ackermansion?" or was it "the Ackermuseum?" Decades ago I was in a small vintage comic/mag/sci-fi shop of some kind and ran into two people who actually knew FJA. You have resurrected FJA's positivity but with more facts, and that is a great combo. - Doc
I was fortunate to talk to Forry several times on the phone in the early 80's and was honored to meet him in 1988. A class act and just as nice as you would hope!
Lost in space was one of my favorite Tv shows . You I watched it in reruns but I have always Been a fan of the show. What did you think of the Netflix remake. Keep up the good work.
Great video. So interesting to see what has happened to these famous props. My wife and I have been joking about how we wanted 'How cool is that?' t-shirts and I just saw you have them! Nice.

So great that Dick Tufeld's voice lives on to provide the voice of these B9 robots, although, I imagine Dan could do a good impression!
Love your posts. But the most impressive part of this story was finding out you made The Robut out of posterboard as a kid, and later recreated it as a young man. I love seeing maker stuff. Please share more of such talents, if you have more props! Great work! Great post!

your doctor smith impersonation was pretty good
Thanks Dan this was great and so much new info on the stunt Robot! And thanks to Fred for all his work to preserve it!👍👍

RUclips was invented for channels like this!! Always fun!
Thanks for staying on lost in space.
Here! Here!
Enjoyed this one very much. Thanks, Dan. So glad the "stunt" Robot had a happy ending.
