    It is a very interesting interview, but Dr. Griffin keeps his counsel and much of this can be read in a number of sources. In other histories as well. there is a certain blasé regarding death in these missions and the risks that were run. However, I think he is also protecting the agency, and perhaps can be forgiven for doing so.
    There was enough reason to consider, given the detail with everything else, that these accidents, given proper management would have been prevented. There were folks who knew about the problems, but the new management structure prevented important ideas/concerns from getting far enough up the management chain.
    I think the shuttle approval was a con job on Congress. NASA managers wanted the shuttle, but the amount of money being allotted for the budget was no where near enough. I think they had to say what had to be said to whomever to get it done. I can understand why that was done. Politicians are usually completely ignorant of science factors, so clever managers would have to pitch to them in a manner meaningful to politicians. I seems that is how the game is played.

    Dr Griffin, the o rings were getting damaged on numerous flights..............that should never happen.
