  • Hey there! We decided to make these videos in hopes to help kids out there who want to become a Drum Major at their school but lack the resources to learn. I noticed there wasn't a lot of "How To..." videos with this subject and came together with my cohort, KayLeigh, and we devised this scheme!
We are not making these with "professional quality." Our goal is to simply get the concept out there for others to learn, which is why I stutter and get a little chunky. It's not scripted it's just kids wanting to help other kids.
Anything or any problems feel free to email us at: UnionMineDrumMajors@gmail.com
We will get back to you as soon as we can, so hit us up with questions, comments on what we are doing or how we can do it better, or maybe there is a move or concept you need us to touch on again, or maybe there is a move you want us to do we haven’t done yet.
Thanks guys we hope you enjoy!

Hey! Thanks so much for making this! I am the first Drum Major in my school to be using a mace and I am so confused. This helped a ton! But I do have one question. When marching in parades, do you use the up, down motion the whole time, or just when the band is playing music? Thanks again!

Hi there, I use it all (most of the time). No matter what you should always be giving some sort of time, even when marching through the streets through a drum tap, or in silent zones. During these periods I will fall into a half mast beat where instead of bringing the baton above my head I pivot at the elbow so the baton reaches the baton ictus then comes about up to my chin. This is just to save your arm for when competition begins. Once in competition you will always beat time in a full pattern because even when there isn't music being played the band still needs to see the beat to know what foot goes where. I said (most) earlier and this is because in my senior year I used a jab sequence in my routine to show a the counter-march. Even with this sequence a clear beat was established and I was still docking time fully!
Sorry this is late, hopefully it helps!
