Dame Barbara Windsor began life, a real eastender - becoming a household name, first with the quintessentially British Carry On comedies then as the hard-nosed pub landlady Peggy Mitchell in the soap Eastenders.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, with her husband Scot she campaigned tirelessly for better research into the cruel disease. He said even in the weeks before her death, her humour and fighting spirit never waned.

Amazing lady. A national treasure. Thank you for all the laughs. Now you're with my nan who also loved you. RIP 💕
I made a costume for her a long time ago - she was great fun, down to earth and very funny in real life - a natural comedienne.
She was part of my childhood watching her on all the carry on movies going to miss her laugh.
Surprisingly she only made 9 out of the 30 movies made.
@@CashelOConnolly actually it was 9 out of 31

Used to go to Renelagh cinema, on the 48A bus, in Dublin, during the 70's to see the 'carry on' films. That giggly laugh...
I was shocked when I read the sad news this morning - my condolences and thoughts go out to her husband, Scott, and both their families but also to Ross Kemp and Steve McFadden who were her on-screen sons xxx

Such sad news, Britton has lost a national treasure for sure. I really felt for her when we learned she had been diognosed with Alzheimer's, as so many suffer from & after watching her in EastEnders religiously from 94' I was deeply saddened to hear she'd passed. What an incredible life she lived though! From the east end, to Hollywood, to the Kray's, back to the east end, & to the Palace & the Queen giving her an OBE. Only in this country can we lead such an amazing life & yet still never have our roots leave our soul.
The east end will miss her, the entire UK will miss her; the big hair, that wiggle, the boobs, & of course that famous giggle!
R.I.P lovely lady 💫
how is her life real? only in the uk....godspeed dame barbara.
Poor Babs, such suffering unlike anyone else’s... and such under privileged life....
People, illnesses are natural and so is death, eventually they will come to each and everyone of us.
She lived a privileged life, could have been worse, in fact it is worse for so many other people, as witty, as compassionate and as kind as Barbara, just not as well known. Stop the fuss, she was 83.
Boris?
