A rather unique and ironically-named obstacle detection level crossing found around a mile from the village of Stallingborough in North East Lincolnshire on the busy A1173 road. This level crossing is located on a relatively fast road which is used by a lot of heavy goods vehicles, and rather unique-ly, the back-boards on which the lights of each wigwag are located on are significantly larger than usual in a bid to improve visibility, yet the lights themselves are no more spaced out or larger than usual. Both of these factors make for a very unusual look for each of the four wigwags here. This level crossing also has four loud alarms, despite seeing little to no pedestrian usage as it is in a remote location on a main road with little footway along it. This is one of two level crossings in the country remaining to be set-up like this, with the only other being about 50 miles away next to Swineshead Station near Boston on the A17.
This level crossing used to be an automatic half barrier level crossing, but was renewed to have full barriers and an obstacle detection system during a major re-signalling programme on this line towards Grimsby and Cleethorpes which happened in 2015. The large light boards have been kept here since the conversion. Each wigwag here also has two poles supporting it rather than the usual one, as these supposedly weigh quite a lot more than usual!
Both videos see the same East Midlands Railway service both before and after making its journey into Grimsby Town Station from Leicester.
Thanks for watching!
Great video with one of my favourite crossings!
Thanks very much! 👍
Great video again mate, love the wide signs for the lights and the fully gated road. I do prefer the rainbow EMR livery as opposed to the purple one. I'm going over this tomorrow so hopefully might see a train. Looking forward to next one.
That blue scania at the end of the first lowering is loverly though with the airbrush on the back.
Thanks a lot! I too think the older stagecoach livery was a little better as it was a bit more colourful and recogniseable. 👍
@@SouthEastLevelCrossings they still have it
Wonderful shots! The big wigwags are really unique. In Germany there are sometimes unusual wigwags, but they are smaller when they are.
Thank you! 👍
The alarm gave me an urge to dance to it😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Huge wigwags, nice video!
Thank you! 👍👍
Amazing Video and Crossing!!😁👍🏻 Those Wigwags are huge!!😄 But I like them!👍🏻
Thank you very much! They are definitely quite unique and certainly very large. 😁
So the skirts are rather unneeded yet Boston A16 Bypass does not have skirts. I need to know what's in some folks minds. If the skirts get removed, then if the crossing is more unique. Stunning video!
Thanks very much! Network Rail seem to be rather unpredictable about decisions like this sometimes.
