revelator io24 has been my best purchase ever for live streaming. there are a million videos on janky audio compression and loopback monitoring using software, but nothing beats letting the interface handle all of that in near-real-time.

Good overview / comparison. Cheers. I hope that PreSonus will refine their presets as I don't think they showcase their products in the best light.

Thanks John. Presets are tough to be super critical on in my opinion. If I had of been eating the mic or yelling into it like some folks do, the presets might have been more appropriate. My guess is they're trying to get entry level folks the most level possible into their computers without clipping & that just ends up being pretty aggressive when you're talking normally. Thanks for watching & for the message!

It's unfortunate that you didn't go into the custom gate controls but just turned it on and off with the Moderate preset. The threshold was clearly set too high for your quiet room, so it sounded terrible when enabled. While the mic IS noisy, in reality it can be pretty much fixed by adjusting the gate threshold.

    • @DcSoundOp
      @DcSoundOp  Год назад +1

Thanks for watching. I don't share the opinion that a high-noise microphone can be *pretty much fixed* by gating it, especially for dialog. The higher noise makes the gate much more noticeable regardless of settings and much harder to hide, especially in a quiet room. As far as presets go, it made sense to me to demonstrate what the average user can expect out of the box with these products, as they are aimed at folks primarily looking for an easy (preset-based) option. Thanks again!

This video is covering exactly the question i have been debating for weeks.
    Revelator Dynamic USB microphone
    OR
    Revelator Io24
/with a Dynamic mic like sm57 or sE Electronics V7.
    Any suggestions?
    You just got a sub.

Thanks Michael, I appreciate you subscribing! I noticed that @John Smith replied to your follow up comment & I agree that either will do well for you. Like I mentioned in the video, as long as you adjust the settings so they're not as aggressive as the presets start out, I doubt anyone on a video call would tell the difference.
I understand you are concerned with the headphone amp, but we're talking about spoken word for broadcast essentially, not tracking drums or anything crazy loud.
If you're monitoring that loud with headphones for speech, you're 100% going to pick that back up in the mic and have some weird issues going on for your listeners. We typically give a mix-minus to broadcast talent. This means their headphone mix or IFB get everything (the program feed) MINUS their own voice. At most you'll put a little bit in for confidence, but this isn't the same as a singer cutting a track where the headphone mix is there for pitch reference.
All of that to say, I don't think you'll have any issues with either for headphones, but maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying there.

@@DcSoundOp I appreciate the assistance. I was concerned with driving the headphones at reasonable levels. Neither are particularly demanding but I was concerned about being able to use them for zero-latency feedback. I will not need high volume levels but since the impedance listed on the headphone output is 16 ohm, I was concerned about its ability to drive headphones. There was also another reviewer that could not hear out of the headphones he usually uses even at 100% gain. As long as the headphone output on the Revelator Dynamic is sufficient to power my 32-ohm headphones, that is the way I should go and save $100. So, Thank you for that information!

    • @DcSoundOp

Hey Tio, I'd probably go with this over the MV-7 simply for the loopback capability. The MV-7 is a fine sounding mic, but has more limited routing & a lot of folks will prefer the USB-C connection on the PreSonus. Thanks for watching & for the great question.

I'm between this revelator dynamic or the Deity VO-7U. I don't like the with noise of the revelator one and the sound that it makes when you mute the mic.
    What do you think?

I haven’t used the Deity at all unfortunately. I’ve tried to get demo gear from them previously & had no luck unfortunately. I like how theirs looks though & that they sell it for less without the boom arm. Pair it with a real boom arm & it might be great. Let me know if you try it!

The Deity has a low noise floor. This and nearly all other noises can be completely eliminated by using Equalizer APO and 2 VSTs ("reafir" and "Real-time Noise Suppression Plugin", search for it) on Windows. I do not know if there is appropriate software for other operating systems.
The Deity has no DSP but you can also set everything within Equalizer APO and free VSTs. I made a video about that which you can find on my channel (but it is German - but the links should also work for you). I was pleased with the result.
There are 3 issues with the Deity VO-7U:
      - RGB can be deactivated completely but when you use its mute knob the RGB is lightning in red (can be solved by using TorkilsMicMuter and Volume² and muting the mic via a software shortcut instead of the hardware button)
      - the gain knob is strange as it is somehow reversed and triggers an internal limiter above 45 or 50 % gain
      - the mic arm is not very stable and should be replaced within several months (mine did hold 5 months before it broke)

Hey everyone! I have a question: The mixing software for the revelator iO24 Universal Control never shows up.
My Revelator IO 24 is physically functioning ie., I can control the sound level from the physical device just fine.
The problem is that "Universal control says "No Devices available and the revelator software mixer never appears on my screen.
I'm using M1 Pro Macbook Pro.
    OS: Sonoma 14.2.1
I have a high-powered (7,500 MA powered) HUB as well as plugging in Revelator Direct.
Has anyone run into this issue? I have messaged Presonus through their only support channel (support tickets) multiple times to no avail.
Is this a faulty issue with their software? I've uninstalled and installed numerous and even older versions of their software all to no avail.
Does anyone else use this revelator with a Mac successfully?
Have you run into these issues too?
I would love to be able to use all the abilities of this DA converter unit.
Funny thing. is that the reason I selected this unit was due to the advertised software functionality.
Any helpful advice is truly welcome.
    Thanks in advance!!!

This post is to add details needed for my question .
I am looking to teach online. Most of the classes are live with some pre-recorded lectures.
    My office is untreated.
The lowest impedance headphones I own are 32 ohm w/ sensitivity of 109 ( efficiency of 93dB). This is relevant because i know the headphone amp for the Revelator Dynamic is pretty weak, and i will want zero latency monitoring.
Many of my students will be listening through computer speakers or cheap headphones, so Audio perfection is unnecessary.
    Which do you suggest?
$200 for the Revelator Dynamic USB Microphone
    OR
    $300 for the Revelator Io24 and a $100 Dynamic microphone ?

    • @TheHalfmanofOz
      @TheHalfmanofOz 2 года назад +2

The main issue I've heard with the USB revelator dynamic is the self noise. If you are a quiet speaker, this may become an issue as you will need more gain to achieve a good level. Personally, I would get the interface and mic combo as it's more versatile, but if you have no intention of using the mic apart from online lessons the USB version should do well enough.
