It's October 26th, 1942. On the USS Enterprise, alarms pierce the air. Pilots dash towards their F4F Wildcats as the urgent call to action echoes across the carrier's deck. Leading the charge of the squadron known as the Grim Reapers is Lieutenant Stanley 'Swede' Vejtasa. The Japanese will soon be upon the American fleet and Vejtasa and his Wildcats are to play a key role in the defense of the ships. Engaging multiple enemies in combat Vejtasa and his men will do their utmost to fulfill their duty and keep the fleet safe. But the Japanese pilots are relentless and resort to desperate measures...

MAKE NAPOLEONIC STORIES
No thanks for that promotion.
The Destroyer that was hit by the crashing torpedo bomber the USS Smith, managed to put the fire out when her skipper had the helmsman steer her into the massive wake of the Battleship South Dakota extinguishing the flames and saving the ship. The quick thinking from her captain as well as the crews supurb damage control earned the ship a well deserved Presidential Unit Citation.
I saw that in Battle 360. That's some quick thinking by the destroyer's captain
@@andrewmontgomery5621 Absolutely, after all somehow I doubt the damage control manual had a section that read: "In event of emergency, Battleships are excellent ad hoc fire extinguishers."
That's Awesome!
And that was basically the only contribution SoDak made in the battle since her AA killcount turned out to be fabrication by the crew.
@@bkjeong4302 Wouldn't be the last time either, since her performance during the night action against Admiral Kondo left something to be desired.

yeah, i guess and maybe not.
with a little bit of hacksaw ridge
Completely agree and exactly what I thought @shubhampatel8884 Compare this to the crappy CGI of a movie like Midway and Yarnhub Absolutely wins nowadays
Incredible to think that the pilot lost his keys right after seeing the enterprise blow up, and then adding insult to injury by having a vivid hallucination showing him how he at least coulda kept those keys safe.
Man what a day.
What a contaminated oxygen tank does to a pilot.
He dropped his 2006 Honda Civic keys
it was the hornet

"you never really love a carrier until she gets hit"
That quote sticks with me everytime..... I always cry when i hear about the Yorktown class and how enterprise is the last one left
"Was" one of the USNs greatest crimes.
Is this from the Caine Mutiny?
unfortunately she was scrapped I believe in 60's but there's a legend and that's she never stops watching over fun fact several people claimed to see her shadow in the darkest hours but when one Enterprise is scrapped they use some of her metal for another CV which let's her live along even in these modern times God bless USS ENTERPRISE for all the sacrifices she made for the country she lost both of her sisters and Japanese called her grey ghost whenever they thought they destroyed her she appeared and striked 1st also there's one story and that's in each of her crew members she still lives on she's in their DNA as long as these families live there will be always Enterprise also she had once damaged front elevator (from bomb)and her pilots even though knowing they wouldn't be able to land took off and did their job and landed on Henderson field refueled rearmed and took off again
go grimace ariplanes! protect those carriers!!!!

I was expecting this one, but I had no idea the depth of detail it would get. Santa Cruz, Grim Reapers, and Swede Vajtesa. Outstanding. Pure purrfection. You guys really are incredible story tellers.
How a small studio is able to make such good animation, research and voice acting with a small budget?
Like honestly i rarely see any errors and re use of footage for certain shots is a pretty good idea and pretty well done that not a lot of people seem to realize. But the most surprising thing is how fast these videos coming with Quality levels maintaning pretty high.
props
From a Bomber to a Fighter to an Ace, Vejtasa defied all odds with his pure Determination to serve his Brothers in Arms and for the Nation
Vajtesa was featured on Dogfights back in 2007. Rest in peace, American hero.
And a bit Czech too, don´t forget where his parents came from.
From the shores of France, to the shores of Japan, Czech pilots lead the way.
Yeah. Season 1 episode 11: Long Odds. He took on and downed 3 Japanese Zeros in a slow Dauntless SBD dive bomber
He was also in the TV show "Battle 360: USS Enterprise, in the episode "Bloody Santa Cruz" and this video got some info wrong
Seeing Cmndr Vejtasa in action again brought tears to my eyes 🥲 Rest in peace min svenska vikingafarfar 🙏
11:30 Damn, even after seeing the comment that the crew manage to contain the fires, seeing the Kamikaze make what I assume was a last second decision to dive for the destroyer gives me goosebumps
The Swede was one heck of a pilot!! Rest in peace!! ❤️❤️
Bro I always hate watching animated films but this one just hits different. All your films are so interesting and also I am learning history.😂
I love animations, and Yarnhub knows what he is doing.
Bro....I hate everything about this comment except for the fact that you're giving Yarnhub props
I’m a massive history enthusiast, and I will say it myself this is the best history channel on RUclips, it’s one of the reasons why I’m writing a short novel about Midway, and the one I already wrote about a Afrika Korps Tank Commander, thank you, keep up the good work.

I still can't believe that I started watching this channel 3 years ago when the night witches and Fray Bentos videos came out. Especially the remake of the spare b-17. It all still feels like they just came out.

BABE WAKE UP, NEW YARNHUB VID JUST DROPPED
Bro the Japanese version of the voiceover is AWESOME ! ! ! It gives me anime vibe but MUCH BETTER ! ! !
I've been with this channel for long time. The improvement of the animation and the overall storytelling is so impressive, I just had to mention it.
The facial expressions were incredible. They looked a lot more restrained than a typical animation but I feel like that is realistic because I could still see all that tension in their faces. Very nice job. The dialogue also sounds far less caricature-like; they sound more like how people would communicate in these life or death scenarios. Japanese and English dialogues both sound awesome.
The Grim effing Reapers?! Yeah, this is gonna be seen. Make it good.
Que bonito detalle al narrar en español con tu propia voz, un saludo desde Argentina.
Definitely. It's an extremely commendable effort! Most of the youtubers hire voice actors (which isn't bad, tho), but having to go through the effort of translating and dubbing yourself is something i'm extremely grateful!
Guys, trust me, I do know that after making a vid you're exhausted, and after having watched it a million times during production, you don't precisely feel like watching it again. Happened to me, but it's been 84 ye... anyway! My advice in return for the awesome movie: Watch it - yes, again, but! In a rather large TV. The largest you got. Mine's 65" and's like being at the movies, but without bad smell around you, noise, and people getting up 'cause they payed to see a war movie and it ended up being a war movie.
Seriously. I just did, and for some reason also ended up purchasing a copy of my car key from a friendly cat! 😂😹
*USS Enterprise is mentioned*
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
My beautiful Enty~
“The Grey Ghost”. I really hate how the most decorated and successful aircraft carrier in WW2 was scrapped by the government instead of being turned into a museum
Oh definitely. That will always make me cry knowing that. There should have been no questions about wanting to save Enterprise. No need to build up money to do it either. Should have done it automatically. I swear I do not know how I would act if I got to walk over that deck today knowing what happened here. Mm man .. I love veterans to pieces.
@@Patriotusa44you served?
@@crimsonmaelstrom573 Nope I did not but I did get soo close to being a Marine. MEPS would not give me the green light despite numerous times of trying to fix an "issue" I had that turned out to be nothing. I wish it would have went better. Would be a veteran right now. Sucks but life is full of surprises.
Holy shit the facial animation just gets better every upload. Your videos are astonishing to watch.
The chaos of the story and the calm voice just makes it better🔥
Yarnhub made a video! Excellent as usual. Just the animation of the rain on the wind screens was awesome. You outdid yourself with this one. It looks fantastic. The USS Smith actually survived that encounter putting her fire out with the wake of another ship which was pretty genius if you ask me. Keep up the great work.
Yarnhub, i want to be honest with you: Your talent in making such content knows no bounds. It felt like i was watching a WW2 movie but your videos put even the best ones to shame due to how exciting and engaging they are and as a history buff you have my most sincere congratulations and gratitude for providing all of us with such exceptional content😊🎆.
I just rewatch yesterday the Dogfights episode where Vejtasa fights against 3 fighters flying a Dauntless bomber. It feels nice seeing more stories about this pilot around
This is MILES better than ANY wwii movie I have seen
even I agreed that was a good animation, it still has its own flaws and limitations, there's nothing was perfect.
@@Mechanized85yeah, I’m not a fan of some of the cringey dialogue that ends up in some of the videos

If y’all wanna hear more about the Enterprise, she has an entire Netflix documentary about her, called Battle 360. The most decorated warship in United States Naval History and one of the most crucial pieces of the U.S. Pacific campaign. I highly recommend it for the information, stories, and interviews of pilot and sailor alike. It’s older and the graphics aren’t as good as Yarnhubs though 😉
I have an assignment due tomorrow ( probably will take around 2 hours to finish ) , got onto YT to put on some lofi , and see that yarnhub has uploaded .
i guess the assignment can wait
Please make a Netflix series
Not that easy and WarThunder will want a massive cut using their graphics and such but I do agree this would be great
I love the super slow-motion bullet scenes. It's like those moments in real life when everything goes from full speed to near stopped.
Another Yarnhub classic,keep em coming.

Vejtaja decided to make a "taran" (intentional mid-air collision), as Soviet pilots against the German attackers in first days of operation Barbarossa in June 1941.
Making "taran" demands very strong guts of a pilot.
Hats off, all of you.

This was an INCREDIBLE return to form for Yarnhub. The perfect balance of narration and voice acting-- the voice acting was great and didnt take away from the beautifully narrated script. Thank you for all of your hard work in bringing these inspiring stories to life!

So I randomly found this channel about 2 months ago and I love it. I have to say the animations has improved a lot in just the time I’ve been watching. Also, do you think you could do a video on the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima on August 6th and 9th 1945?
Thank you Yarnhub what a great episode! And thank you “Swede” and the “The Grim Reapers” and all servicemen and women that have served since, your time and service is much appreciated!

Is it only me or Yarnhub's videos are slowly getting realistic
Your model for Yorktown-class carriers is truly awesome, and i hope you know you are my favourite history-telling animator, no matter how little my support means to you.
I’ve been on such a binge watching your videos I didn’t even realize this was a newer one. Absolutely love you and/or your teams work. Please keep it up. It’s amazing story telling and even better animation.
Vejtasa was a strong soldier, and i also respect the Japanese for their fight, they thought they were fighting for the emperor and their country. Respect for both sides 🇺🇸🇯🇵
Many Japanese committed atrocities (sure, prob more so in the army but still). I can't respect someone who fights for tyrannny & genocide (Japan in China, Rape of Nanjing; Germans in WWII; Rusians now; Israelis bombing civillians just for the political survival of one man...). If more people said 'no', we wouldn't have these damned wars, but they don't, people aren't socially brave generally, so I won't respect them for just going along with the propeganda. Its not that all the Japanese were evil but its disingenuious to suggest there's any moral comparison between the Allies in WWII and the Axis.
@@skullsaintdead You do know the US also did some questionable things to the Japanese, one of them being forcing prisoners and japanese immigrants to say the US pledge of allegiance, and many worse things. I respect the soldiers for their commitment for their country, willing to give their lives for the emperor and for honour from their family. The emperor did nothing wrong, but Tojo and other japanese officials were responsible for the crimes, the Japanese army and navy were fooled by those officials. 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
@@NathanLovesJuche Wow, "the Emperor did nothing wrong", damn, at least I know now why people make such statements, anyways I'm not going to argue with someone that holds such a view. What the Allies did was, in some cases, horrible, but to compare us with the monstrosities of the Axis as you have done... It is incredibly dangerous, for democracy and our way of life & our freedoms. Have a good night.
@@skullsaintdead yeah I can understand, I don't respect the officials that started this. But I respect the soldiers who fought. I respect all men who would give their lives to their country no matter whether it be Axis or Allies.

teaching history in animations is the only way you gettin gen A and Z to be interested in it lol, you got the right amount of stimulation for us
The greatest Pacific carrier battle for me, and the most closely matched as well. The Shokakus vs. Yorktowns contest was the ultimate capital ship rivalry in history and this was battle that bled both classes white (and bled the IJN pilot corps white in general and led to their collapse).
