This "old style" of truck, I do love it! Simple , no electronics, no bugs... The question is... How much? Where? When? And so on...

beautiful machine, in brazil there is a specimen that is not exactly the NG model but if the LS 1934 engine OM 355/6 LA is really beautiful they affectionately call it terezona. Cheers

I drove one of these for a couple of years in Norway. It was a tanker owned by Nils Heggem in Åndalsnes. I mostly drove between Åndalsnes and Ålesund, with routes to Dombås and sometimes to Trondheim to load low sulphur heavy bunker oil. A really huge engine, but with an 8-speed transmission (no split) and only around 1000 Nm torque, it was awfully slow. And it consumed up to 70 litres of diesel per 100 km, so it was in no way economial. But it definitely had its charm. It was later replaced with a 2244, with the first generation EPS shifting system. This time with a split, so 16 gears forward available. It was really night and day. Where the 1932 would do 25 km/h uphill, the 2244 would do 50 with the same load. But the exhaust brake was more effective on the 1932, so downhill the 1932 was quicker.

This engine was built for a different time, time when 320 BHP is 'big thing' because that time (40 years ago) generally speaking, city buses with 200 BHP, vans with 90 BHP & cars with 125 BHP was considered 'quite big'. But nowadays everything 'moves up' in the ratings such that the same figures are not considered 'big' anymore so nowadays you get trucks with 700 BHP, buses/coaches with 500 BHP, vans with 200 BHP & cars with 600 BHP etc. then only is considered 'big' by current standards.
I remember the old exhaust brakes in Mercedes-Benz are very loud & vibrasive...like OM352 or 360...from many miles away you can hear it very loud coming ! But surprisingly the new Volvo FM trucks exhaust brakes sounds similar to that.

    Hi,
thank you very much for the nice videos. I randomly found them on RUclips and I gave them all a huge thumb up.
I've never seen videos of this high quality of the mighty V10 on RUclips. I'm seriously in love with this sound.
In the last years I randomly saw a 2636 on my way to work sometimes. It was a sewer cleaning vehicle, running in high idle and pumping something in front of a restaurant, in the middle of a big city. It had the bigger, 18.3 Litre version of the V10 (OM 423). I loved the sound but I never really had much time. The last time I saw it I talked with the driver. He told me that the truck was to be replaced by a brand new Mercedes Actros in a few months back then. He was happy about it but I was sad the whole day. Unfortunately the company didn't respond to my E-Mail request either and I hadn't the time and energy to follow it further at this time, so I never saw this truck again. That must be about one year ago. Right now, watching your videos, I regret it and am happy about your video as a kind of "compensation" at the same time.
I know that it's several months back but I would really love to see further videos of the truck. I would be especially interested in a walkaround.
Have a good time, best regards from Germany
    Tobias

Nowadays in their new generation diesels, there seems no more that 'chickling sound' which you get with the older generation diesels like OM360, 400 series like this one which i hear it clearly in this video...that's the power steering pump ??
