My husband was in so much pain in his back. He was on the floor with his knees in the couch. I wanted to call an ambulance he was so bad. I turned on tv and there was Bob Ross. He loved him. By the time the show was over, he was up, walking around, and went to the garage and worked on his car. So his voice does do wonders.
As a kid, I used to pester my mom to put on "the big hair man" and then took to calling him "Uncle Bob" by the time I was 6. Comic books, and Bob Ross are why I started art, and I feel privileged to have grown up when he was around. He was a treasure, and is missed.
The fact is when you mentor someone, and give them that knowledge, you do it with the belief and intent that they will succeed you and become even better. That's the joy of mentor ship. Knowing you are giving the world your god given talent in hopes to create more beautiful things and better the world. To be jealous of that is your own karma. God bless Bob Ross you are dearly missed.

fun fact: my family was friends with bob ross. he was extremely good friends with my grandfather, and they went to the military and art class together. he made a painting and instead of giving it to the people gave it to my grandfather with a special message. i have photos of him with my family. i only remember the family dinner one though. hope this was an interesting fact! :)

When I first saw Bob's programme 30 years ago I had always wanted to paint but didn't know how. After watching him at work he convinced me that I could do what he was doing, so I had a go. 30 years later I am still painting and it has become something that has been one of the mainstays of my life and I shall be ever grateful to Bob for teaching me what really is, THE JOY OF PAINTING. Thank you Bob for giving my life a purpose. R.I.P.

Well bob did copy him in a lot of ways they and practically the same camera angles and same supplies and stuff. but I would be kinda mad too if I had started doing wet on wet painting tutorials and someone else came in and did practically the same thing as me and got a lot more recognition for it and was looked at as the pioneer of that painting style

He’s back on tv now in the UK and I watch every episode. He’s so gentle spoken. His paintings fetch $10.k and although just simple paintings They are So calming.. he passed to young.

As a little brown boy who was an artist with a afro ? I loved Bob... he was my hero. A soft spoken white man with a soft curly ball of awsomness on his head... awesome.
Nice job with this video! I worked as an engineer on his show and Bob was everything you could imagine and then some! He was kind, easy to work with, had a blast creating the wacky show openings and was an all around treat to have in our TV station for a week at a time! He was also just a bit ornery...Bob liked jokes and could tell them very well - most often, during lunch! We were so saddened by his death but the crew here knew he was very ill so it wasn't a complete shock. Still, it just tore us all up. Bob would be 75 if he were still with us and what a treat that would be! I hope he can see how incredibly popular he has become wherever he happens to be. Love ya' Bob!
@@Tempington20 All true. We came up with some decent ideas for the time. One series, Bob steps into the paint bucket and walks off. We didn't record audio so I did foley audio with the bucket after the fact! My name is in credits as Jerry Hunt...Max is my middle name. Thanks for the compliment...we sure had fun!
That is awesome you are extremely fortunate to have such a relationship with the man before his passing. He is definitely resting easy in heaven now so as sad as it was that he passed so prematurely it’s great because he isn’t in pain anymore. I hope your stories get passed on down your bloodlines and that Ross will continue to be remembered in this way. He is an American icon and pioneer and should always be remembered as such
Thanks, that's really nice! Didn't know much about Bob and was worried that this would be some sort of hatchet-job but no, he was just a really nice guy! The Joy Of Painting has been running on BBC4 here in the UK since the beginning of the lockdown last March, and I genuinely think it had played its little part in helping people through it, it did me anyway.
Each time I watch an episode of Bob Ross at the end I say thank you Bob, rest in peace. I'm an amateur painter but I use his style, I'm forever grateful for his teachings and his influence. Gone Too Soon, very sad
And isn't that what made him 1 in a billion. He didn't do it for the money. He was just a good person. That's a role model we need in a society of Kardashians
To be fair, the man was already rich. He had a family, he got to share his love for painting with a ton of people, and he spent his time around wild animals, that's the richest you could be.
I wouldn't go so far to say he saved my life, but I was very sick once and was awake day and night, with sickness and pain in my belly. Then one night while switching programs I came across his show by acident and it immediately caught my attention and he took away my thoughts from circling around my pain. It really felt as if a big knot in my intestants became untangled and for the first time in a long time I was able to sleep halfways decent. I almost couldn't wait for his show at nights after that.
My teacher taught me to count and I copied it. Should my teacher be envious of me for using what he learned me because I have earned millions on what he taught me?
Ulf Carl Finnes he shouldn’t be! But this is the new way of life people are living...he’d probably think you owe him something when you owe him nothing but thanks!
The Lorax that’s not true. In this case it is, but its not for MPW and Gordon. They have no feud it’s all made up. People who worked for ramsay for years asked him and he said that it’s all really only bs in the internet. There has been problems in the past but MPW is a great cook and he was never jealous of gordon. Gordon literally admitted that he tried to break mpw‘s record for the youngest cook with 3 michelin stars but he couldnt. They are both great cooks. No jealousy here, it’s all good between them.
Ulf Carl Finnes I swear, my second grade teacher said if we grew up and got famous, she’d be happy because she could tell her friends that she taught us. It should be the teacher being proud of the student, not the latter.
Sometimes the student eventually surpasses the teacher. So, be proud of your prodigy. Amazing how Bob created such aesthetically pleasing virtual worlds at will. I like that his son has carried on the legacy from his dad.
I honestly feel like he’s an angel sent from heaven I love the things he did like putting a squirrel in his pocket and letting it watch him paint it was awesome, his love of animals everything about him is great
I remember coming home from school on half days and turning on PBS and watching the cool laid back guy with the fro. Then watching I love Lucy. Happy simple times.
On the day Bob Ross died... a light went out in the world. No one can know another person's heart, yet are we not at least partially defined by our words and actions. In this regard, Ross more than succeeded... by combining artistic instruction with commentary designed to uplift the spirit and make sense of an oftentimes senseless world. In life, the legacy we live IS the legacy we leave. And with his passing, a light went out in the world.
I didn't know that. And, yes, it's easy (unfortunately natural) to be suspicious. It's part of human nature. Anyway, there is not a person who ever lived who doesn't have a skeleton in their closet... and no one walks on water. Where I was coming from was another place. It has to do with the impact of one human (regardless how imperfect) on another human. For example, about 20 years ago, I watched a televised interview featuring some high-rolling dude in the art world. As with some others, he was essentially critical of the work Ross did, explaining that it was not real painting, or something. But he said something else, which illustrates where I was coming from in my previous post. He said that, for all his shortcomings, Bob Ross, more than any other factor, was responsible for an increase in the number of college students going after art majors. Ross may have been a saint or a sinner (like most of us), yet he also inspired a large number of people to take a chance and explore their own creative potential. And that's the point. And that's one of the reasons why so many people appreciated him. For me, I never picked up a paint brush, yet I appreciated someone willing to defy the status quo (including in the art world) and suggest that anyone, everyone, could embark on a personal journey that could bring a little more creativity and satisfaction into their life. True home-spun wisdom is easy to criticize, but difficult to outpace.
metablue yes i know, and i really admire bob ross dont get me wrong, but saying he was a nice (anything) doesn't break any bones, the fact that they like to hide it completely it's just extremely weird, everybodys a good smt even saying hes a good son or dad, but nothing they refused to say anything at all and thats where it gets awkward, i really really admire him but the fact that hes family doesn't say anything nice about him (they could lie just to satisfy the fans) makes me feel bad, hes such an angel how could someone not be able to say good things about him specially his family, do u get me? Its not that hes a bad person, its that his family denys to say anything at all about him other than what everyone saw him be
It is pretty weird or confusing, etc. I guess it's another occasion where we're observing human nature... which is weird enough. Speaking from my experience and that of many others I've known, families can sometimes be very... very... I'll call it... problematic (and I'm being diplomatic). Meantime, thank you.
His life was rough. And we all love him for introducing us into drawing. He is not a painter, he is a wizard. Yer a wizard, Bob. And a very good one. R.I.P. I hope you are watching us all enjoying your painting tutorials.
@Grunge, great vid but you forgot 1 thing. Bob Ross said something so inspirational that it needs to be heard. Before his show took off in the 80s he said, "Don't worry about the money, if you're good at something the money will eventually come." Boy he couldn't be anymore spot on!!
Thank you Bob Ross for being the beautiful "humane" being that you were and for the beauty you left us with. The world would be a better place with more of you. God bless "you" Bob Ross.
I love that there are no drugs no accusations or anything. He was a happy man trying to spread the joy to others. Mr Ross was an amazing man who continues to inspire me. I remember when I had heard of his passing. I cried for hours. Nothing felt real. My hero had left our world and it hurt. It really really hurt. It was a horrible pain that I will never truly recover from but I believe he is happy and at rest in the other side. I miss him. I never met him but I think that’s okay because I felt like his friend just listening and watching him on screen. He was truly a blessing.
American Patriot but it still is a terrible thing to say. The history of is just flat out terrible. It's disgusting how racism still exist, some people are just a bunch of babies 😡😡😡
I miss this guy, and sadly didn't realize how much I valued him when I was younger and he was still around. I'm going to try to remember that feeling as a result and let it reflect back onto those in my life NOW. Thank you Bob Ross, for giving me so much more than painting lessons.

Such a shame that some of the best artists make next to nothing all their lives and as soon as they die everything they did is worth 10's of thousands.
That's the sad reality for a lot of artists who mainly make their money from commissions. It isn't the only reality though, as many artists are employed to fulfill roles other then that, such as design work. They are one of the most important parts of game and movie production, which heavily rely on visual communications. Albeit, these roles might not pay nearly as well as say, a commissioned work from royalty, but then again, those particular job offers are so slim these days that it is almost a moot point. It is mainly a sign of the times, when cameras were able to replace artists whose traditional role was to capture people within pictures, but luckily design work is still there to pay the bills at least.
That is how it tends to work, it is like what if there were only 100 diamonds in the world, suddenly they become a lot more valuable. As long as there is another painting that is being painted, then all of the paintings are worth a lot less, as soon as someone dies, well, suddenly their paintings aren’t getting any more additions and they are valuable
His voice was so comforting as his paintings. It's so embarrassing to admit his voice was sometimes too soothing, that I actually have fallen asleep on the best painting part. He was such a gentle hearted Artist who taught a lot in so many home from PBS. Thank you, Mr. Ross, R.I.P. ♥️
My sister turned me on to Bob Ross. I love him and miss my sister, I guess everytime I see Bob Ross Ill think of my sister. He was so wonderful on PBS.
Im 63. When I was in High School we used the term "turn me on" the meaning is the person "introduced me to." In a sentence I could say, "Joe turned me onto Sensimilla." (Sensimillia was the first real 'potent' weed) by the way I dont smoke. If I said a girl "turns me on" it has a different meaning. If I said that in a sentence it would be "Dang, that girl is fine..she really 'turns me on'" Although that does not HAVE to mean sexually. It can mean 'I like her style,' 'I like her attitude,' 'I like her intellectualism' etc. If Paul McCartney says it in a song, it has another meaning. IE; "A Day in the Life" by John Lennon. Arguably the best song off Sgt. Peppers. By the way, Sgt. Peppers is considered the greatest rock album of all time. If that is the case (and it is) then "A day in the LIfe" written by Lennon could be said to be the "greatest rock song of all time." Because it is considered to be the best song of that album. Got it? Although Im fairly sure that title does belong to Led Zeppelin with "Stairway to heaven." Which Im listening to right now :) Ok, now everybody has had their lesson on Urban lingo from the 70's. Think anybody can actually make a point? If Im gonna be f'd with in the comment section (of a Bob Ross video no less?) hahahaha, break out your brains, This stuff bores me, I debate for a hobby. Lol. No offense. OK, thanks. God bless.
I watched his show growing up,the best thing on at the time. Now I recently have been listening to him just to fall back to sleep .then to re-watch to see his happy accomplishments.

He did the same thing but when Bob started The Joy of Painting his teacher was done with his television show. Bob just continued it.
Irving Ramirez I totally was thinking the same thing!
His teacher didn't invent wet on wet,if you look it up the tehnique has been used ever since the 17th century.
The alla prima style goes back to 15th century so either Bill Alexander was a lot older than he looked or got it wrong.

Max Hunt hope you're speaking the truth and if you are you goddamn had the wackiest openings even for that time. :)

Surely Bill realized anyone who knows anything about art would see through his easily refutable claim.
Bob woulda been so rich if he was still alive today
And isn't that what made him 1 in a billion. He didn't do it for the money. He was just a good person.
That's a role model we need in a society of Kardashians
To be fair, the man was already rich. He had a family, he got to share his love for painting with a ton of people, and he spent his time around wild animals, that's the richest you could be.
An artist’s death is what makes his work a true commodity.

And with his passing, a light went out in the world.
metablue k
Unfortunately the fact that his family hides how he was outside of the cameras view is extremely suspectfull :/

Such a shame that some of the best artists make next to nothing all their lives and as soon as they die everything they did is worth 10's of thousands.
Thats the way it works! Paint your whole lifetime for next to nothing then kick the bucket, Christie's is selling it for $300,000!!
I'm sure Bob loved painting and the money was just a cool addition.
As a starving artist, I agree. It sucks.
Bob was a legend...I will never paint but just watching him do his stuff made me chill

Chicken Dadddyy I am embarrassed to admit but I also want to know how to make the face, (θ¿θ)
you just google search ''lenny face'' and there should be somewhere to copy it, :/ i dont think u can type the lenny face :/
Got it? Although Im fairly sure that title does belong to Led Zeppelin with "Stairway to heaven." Which Im listening to right now :)
Ok, now everybody has had their lesson on Urban lingo from the 70's. Think anybody can actually make a point?
