Yes and no. That is a cool feature, but I haven’t tried it for a while. I found that it was a bit jerky when starting after a stop in stop start traffic and so I haven’t used it in that type of use case for a long time. Perhaps it’s been improved in updates and I should give it another go? Though that is the adaptive cruise, which isn’t only an EV thing. I just realised I haven’t really answered your question. 😂 In regards to not having to ride the brakes, yes. Even just the one pedal driving makes it “easier” when in traffic. Still don’t enjoy traffic. 😂
Had my MYP for 2 weeks now, decided to buy after watching your videos. Loving it so far, only thing I hate is the kerb rash I already have on one of the alloys, but that’s a driver and design issue, not the car itself. I’m moving from a Porsche Macan S, so I was concerned about drop in ‘quality’, but honestly beyond some small things I’ve not noticed it. MYP also makes the Macan feel slow and like the Flintstones car in terms of tech. Finally, one pedal driving is a game-changer! Thanks Lee for the videos, they’re fun and informative.
Hi Lee. A small technical correction... One pedal driving does not use the wheels to slow down. The slowing is created by engine braking, just like a petrol car. I believe it is done by simply reversing the polarity of the magnets (or something similar). But I may be wrong...

Excellent video Lee. It is a 'transmission tunnel' that houses the propeller shaft which is the mechanical connection from the front mounted engine to the rear wheels. A great video for me to share with ICE owners.

Had a Y LR MiC 2022 and now a Y SR (with BYD LFP) MiG. The SR with the BYD is a bit better. Less power, no AWD, OK. But softer ride, less consumption and the BYD battery has the same stops on long range drives (>1000km) as the Y LR. It charges fast and most of all you dont have to arrive at the SuC with 0% for getting fast charge rate. It charges 176kW when plugged in at any SoC around 5% to over 70% (charge curve still applies and is higher). 20-90% in 20min
Yes, always a challenge isn't it. Nothing is perfect and you're always needing to make a compromise one way or the other. You might find a conversation I had with a mate of mine in previous video interesting. It's the LA to San Jose road trip. We did that in my mates LR Y. And it was my first time doing a long drive in one. Was kinda same/same but different. Also it was a leisurely drive and so we weren't as focused on being as efficient as possible.
I live in a regional city on the border of NSW and VIC. I decided, after looking at many different possible choices, and determined to buy an August 2023 Shanghai built Model 3 long range. I wanted just that bit more range. Like you with your model Y, I find the Model 3 comfortable, and the performance, when you need it, is incredible. Software updates are fantastic, the Tesla app is fabulous. I plan to keep this car well into the future, and believe it will remain the perfect car for me.
Greg I’m really interested in your experience. I have some overlaps with you, and I live in the NSW regional centre 90mins from you. My last remaining concern in terms of pulling the trigger on a Tesla is the regional/rural support in the event of flat tyre etc. is there any context or info that eased your own mind on that point?
@@Busy_Birding I carry a Tesla tyre repair kit which comes with an inflator and a goo spray that provides temporary repairs adequately, maintain tyre pressures and drove 1,550km return into South Australia with just a single charging stop each way in Swan Hill. $61 total spent. I have NRMA coverage, which runs interstate, and provides widespread EV support across Australia. Breakdowns are my least concern because the Tesla is well built and more reliable than any petrol car I’ve ever owned. The tyres on my Tesla are quality EV tyres, and if nerves about a flat over distances are an issue, lightweight spare tyres are available that will fit in the frunk or settle in the depressed deep space in the boot admirably. There’s no problem with charging on road trips, just ensure you get cards for the different chargers available, Evie is great, Exploren is another, Chargefox another and Plugshare provide information about charging across Australia. As said previously I bought a long range because I live regionally. Since entering my original comment I’ve done much more driving absolutely problem free. Long distance trips are easily planned and mapping in the Tesla can have alternative (non-Supercharger) fast chargers spaced along your route quite easily. I carry charging equipment in the car specific to long distance travel, EVSE Australia are great suppliers. I charge off solar at home, but charging can be scheduled if you don’t have solar to off-peak hours. Local driving consumes almost no battery power. Hope this helps.
I've owned mine now for about 3 months. Agree with most of what you've said. However unlike you I use the autopilot probably more than not. Mind you I used normal cruise control in previous cars the same way. I find that it often is better than I am at driving plus it it far more focused than I am. I use it literally all the time. Love it.
like my MY, the suspension is average - drive on a bad road with many bumps and you can really feel it. Hope the standard autopilot improves as it has alot of phantom breaking. Lastly the latest updates had improvements for non USS cars such as 3D view around the car and auto car parking.
The challenge is there is so much to mention. Which is why I tried to limit myself to a few things. Though quite a few folks have mentioned they'd like to see a more detailed video. So I am thinking about how I might do that.
Lee, I've had my MY for about 3 weeks now, I had some paint issues, not with the coat per se, but there was some water damage, it looked like bore water had baked onto the clear coat damaging it and I had to get it buffed out professionally before I could ceramic coat it. Tesla didn't want to know about it, which was disappointing, considering it was delivered to me like that. It just got sorted today and it has come up a treat. Other than that, I love the car, I'd have to say the adaptive cruise and lane assist is great. I have 3 months of enhanced auto pilot which gives the lane changing and park assist, I know you have trialed it, what do you think? Is it worth the $5100?
Sorry to hear about that paint issue, that's not good. Glad it got sorted. I think you'll be interested in next week's video where I talk about enhanced auto pilot. Spoiler alert, I don't think it's worth $5100. Which is not to say I don't think it has valuable features and that is just my opinion and for others it will be worth it for them. I go into a fair bit more detail in next week's video. ☺️

Lee, My wife and I have had our Model Y for 2 weeks. (Sorry I was an idiot and didn't understand how to use your Referral Link correctly). OMG...Best car I've owned/driven in my 30+years driving. I agree with everything you said. It's just a better Car. Period. Every friend/family member we have told/shown has said, "How can you afford a Tesla!". When I tell them how much ~$70k, and they see its cheaper than some of their 4x4's/SUV's, there is silence.... Some have said why didn't we get a cheaper MG, BYD etc.. I said well this car will get soooooo much better over time with "Software" updates it will leave those in its dust. Oh, and its soooo big inside (Yes Tardis). And Yes its almost drives itself, today let alone in 12 months. Robo Taxi?? We learn a new trick about the car almost every day. Before I looked into it, I assumed all Tesla's where like $150K+. Now $70K is still a lot of money, but a lot less than I thought it was.
I have a M3 and share your concerns to a point. All I can say is the car is such a blast to drive that if somewhere down the track something expensive happens I will comfort myself in the knowledge that just driving the thing is an absolute pleasure and not just a chore as driving was becoming for me. I will cut my losses with a smile on my face. AND if we are honest, if we can afford a $60k car then we really can afford to lose money on it if it comes to that. In the meantime.....Live for now and enjoy. 😊
@@notacarguy_au when one exits a roundabout one indicates one intention to other drivers,when one is about to pass a parked car one indicates to go around parked car and then indicates to move back into left lane ,i am not being a smart A but those are the rules of the road,I am a very proud driver of mod Y rwd like you 🇦🇺👍😀
@@notacarguy_au if you did indicate before said roundabout you would have to turn left, once in roundabout you indicate that you are proceeding to go through roundabout ,if you are having trouble understanding the interpretation and continue driving as you do other drivers won’t know in which direction you are going,i am a driver of 63 years ,I have never understood how drivers in W.A have the same problem,maybe traffic laws are different in this state, all the best for the future.😀😀😀👍👍👍

I agree entirely with the traffic jams. Auto pilot and let it do the work. It could do with a slightly smoother take off but I can live with it.

Does one need to indicate when passing a parked car? I've never seen anyone do that in Australia. Normally you stop to let others pass.
