for Badia's nightclub. It was shown before the
featured movie in Cairo cinemas. See if you can
find Tahia Carioca in the back up dancers!

Badia Masbani retiried to Chtoura Lebanon and bought a farm in 1952. She attached a store that sold cheeses and labneh from her farm, and students from lebanon would come and visit her store. She died in 1973. Today her store still stands on the main highway between beirut and damascus in chtoura, and the sign bears her name, along with someone form the rayyes family that I believe she married to. The store has pictures of her along with fairouz, farid alatrach and other famous artists.
What amazing old footage of Badia. Incredible part of Oriental dance history!
Great to find these clips are still available! We can all get a seat to watch Badia and learn some of Egyptian dance and cinematic history.

Love love the her finger cymbals and her ways as she moves about-love this very old era in music too. The oud was still predominant and very heavy rhythmically and their singing style is so plaintive and haunting. Just love it. Like some Arabic "78 RPMs" I have. Thank you.
Teheyya is the 1st support dancer to the left of Badea. She leads the four support dancers moves towards the right in a cress cross with the other four and return back. Great video.
Badea should have paid the taxes and stayed in Egypt. She would have done much better.

P.S. This means that Tahia was only 15 here ??? Some sources even give 1921 as the year of her birth, but most 1919...

Please think! This was made in 1934. If she was indeed born in 1915, that would make her 19 years old. Does her face remind you of a 19-year old? And would she be the owner/manager/chief dancer of her own night club, forming other dancers, by 19?
Actually she was born in 1893, so she was 41 in this clip.
