  • Watch the video at 1.75 x speed to save time. This is the 5th game in the Road to Gold Series with the Flag up Front. My ELO is currenlty 481. In this video, we learn why it's important to remember who you played in the past. I talk about scouting and why it's so important. You should always record your games and scout players setups. Good players are probably doing the same thing to you. The next time you play them, review your scouting report before the start of the game and see if your opponent is playing the same style with the same setup. I also talk about my favorite 4 bomb setup formation and why it's very effective in the late game.

    In a month I became a gold miner, while I was bronze major before, due to your video's.
    I even won two games with the flag up front. So thanks and please keep on posting video's!

      That's great! One of my goals of the channel was to get bronze and silver players to gold and platinum levels. There's so much to learn about this great strategy game. Once players understand most of the various tricks, traps, tactics and Stratego patterns the game becomes really fun to play, plan, bluff and attack. I'll be posting more videos in the future when I have more time. Keep good records of the players you play. I think that really helps players stay focused and will help you reach your goals faster.

    Hey Dobby, I like watching your videos, your a good comentator. Question: which program do you use to record your games. In a video you said you establish bomb placement statistics by viewing 65000 setups. Where did you have access to that material? Could you redo a video on stratego statistics and the best place to lotto?

      Thanks. I hope the vids help you move up the leader board quickly. I use Camtasia 8 to record and edit my games. I record the games first. Then I record the game while I play it back in the editor. I analyzed the Stratego games at Gravon. Around 85,000 games were analyzed. Here's the link to my blog that shows the place by all pieces:stratego-tips.blogspot.com/2017/04/common-stratego-piece-placements.html You can see the stats for bomb placements on that page. I might do a video on lottoing in the future. I still have to finish the series I'm working on first. I just need some free time. Check out Ouwesok Broken pieces series videos. They will help most people become better board readers and players. ruclips.net/video/plpgKwd3w3U/видео.html

      Camtasia 8 thanks I will check it out and thanks for muting the whosh noise the pieces make when they move. Alot of youtube games keep the noise and its very anoying to keep hearing it. Your statistics charts are very impressive thanks I will try lotting with them because its so much fun to lotto (I know its not good on my rating but its fun!!) (I'am a chess player taking a break from chess so I love lottoing because its so different). One last question: could you give us a hint of your credentials such as highest elo reached or simply did you ever reach platinum marshal? @Dobby125

      Lottoing can be fun(see my 3 major attack games), but usually should be a last resort tactic. You won't get far up the leader board if all you do is lotto. Try searching youtube for free screen recorders. You probably can find some as good as Camtasia's recorder.
      The highest I got to was platinum sergeant. I stopped trying to go up the leader board because I wasn't having much fun playing the same few boring players during the time I could play. I then started trying to see how many games I could win in a row. Then I wanted to see how many games it took me to win 50 games. Then I would start over at 100 elo and try again. Then I decided to start the youtube channel to teach beginners how to get better so the site would have more top players.

      I'm glad you are learning a lot. That was the whole purpose of the channel. I want Stratego beginners to become strong Gold and Platinum players. This game is great once you learn all the nuances, tactics, strategies and Stratego patterns. I'll be posting some more videos in the future. I might get a couple out soon. The videos are time consuming to create and unfortunately I just don't have much time right now to make them.

      @@strategotacticsandtips5636 Thank you, I was gold for a day or two and now am back to bronze! Am catching up on your video to go back on track.... The only thing i wont try is that Flag in the Front! too risky! Thank you again!

      The flag up front is just used as a gimmick to get players interested in watching the videos. People are amazed that you can win games with your flag placed there. They are fun games to watch and exciting to play. I always tell players under 600 ELO that they should always have a bombed in flag.

    Wassup Dobby. The spot at 20:00. I dislike your move. You don't want to reveal your marshal at all, it hurts you much less if he scouts that bomb. The advanced play is to move with your marshal towards the scout. Think about what will that do to your opponent. If he scouts the marshal, you are in the same spot as the game. If he scouts the bomb he is likely going to think that marshal is a weak piece.

    • @strategotacticsandtips5636
      @strategotacticsandtips5636  5 лет назад +1

      Wassup stranger. You should make more videos. I constantly send viewers to your youtube channel so they can get better at this game. I never like revealing my Marshal(it's a weakness I have). If I can play the game without even moving my Marshal, I'm really happy.
      I think your move is the right one if my flag is located on the back row. Sometimes you have to play different with the flag up front. My Colonel and Major were the only pieces in trouble(besides the flag). Revealing the Marshal protected them and the flag. And it turns out his General was on that side too. I was just trying to avoid a quick lotto loss, which happens a lot when you play against desperate Silver/low Gold players. You'd be surprised how many times players lotto a General into A4 for no reason.
      You should start playing again(I haven't played since May). Create an alias account and try the 3 Major attack strategy. It's a really fun challenge.

    A question, I was thinking, if you think your opponent has the major, marshall spy trap, let say with the major on d4. What about taking that major with the colonel? If he takes your colonel with the marshall, you know the marshall, and you pretty sure of the position of the spy, and counter attack with your marshall. And you have at least a major for the colonel. And if it was a fake trap you won a major and you know where his higher pieces not are. Of course he could take the colonel with general . But the odds are maybe slim. Really like to know what you think.

    • @strategotacticsandtips5636
      @strategotacticsandtips5636  5 лет назад +1

      That's a good option. You can counter attack with both your Marshal and General if you think it's a Major/Marshal/Spy trap. Before you attack the Major with your Colonel, find targets on both wings and position your Marshal and General for the counter attack. This can take some time and patience, but it will be worth it. You might even bring up your spy along with your Colonel when you attack. Put the Spy on E5 and the Colonel on F4. This can be dangerous though. Many high Gold and Platinum players will attack E5 with the Major, especially if they know the other piece is a Colonel.

      Being down 3 Majors in a game, even with good information is an incredibly difficult challenge. It's also the most fun I've had playing Stratego. I think those games, in that series, will really help Bronze, Silver and low Gold players learn how to play from behind and win without lottoing. Too many beginning players quit when they go down 1 Major or a Major and Captain. Or they just resort to lottoing and hope they get lucky.
